Primitive War review – it's Green Berets vs dinosaurs in cheerfully cheesy Vietnam war gorefest

In "Primitive War", the on-screen mayhem is undeniable, with Green Berets battling dinosaurs in a Vietnam-set nightmare that defies logic. Directed at viewers who crave military action, gore, and prehistoric creatures, this adaptation of Ethan Pettus's 2017 novel is unapologetically formulaic but strangely captivating.

The film, shot in Australia, boasts an Australian cast with some American actors, ostensibly set in Vietnam during the late 1960s. However, the real enemy isn't just the Viet Cong; it's a sinister scientific experiment that brings forth an army of dinosaurs, wreaking havoc on anyone who dares to enter their jungle domain.

As Colonel Jericho assembles an elite team, known as the Vulture Squad, led by Sgt Ryan Baker, the stage is set for a battle royale. While the grunts in Baker's unit vary in intelligence quotient, their ineptitude serves only to heighten the absurdity of their predicament. The plot is predictably repetitive, but it's this very predictability that makes "Primitive War" strangely watchable.

The film's reliance on firepower ensures that dialogue and background music are frequently drowned out by gunfire, a clever narrative device in an otherwise formulaic story. Music plays a pivotal role here as well, with some unmistakable needle drops from Creedence Clearwater Revival – a clear attempt to evoke the spirit of 1960s America.

However, it's the visual effects that fall short, with dinosaurs appearing rather plasticky, especially during full-daylight sequences. The production seems more invested in gore and visceral moments than convincing creature design. Nevertheless, the film's cheerful cheesiness remains undiminished, making "Primitive War" a delightfully absurd viewing experience for those who revel in this brand of on-screen mayhem.

I just watched Primitive War and OMG it's SO cheesy 🤣🎥 I mean I'm all about the action & dinosaurs, but the plot is literally formulaic 😒. But at the same time, it works? Like I don't know, maybe it's because they're so bad at following rules that it kinda becomes good? 😂 The Vulture Squad is literally the most incompetent team of soldiers EVER 🤣, but you can't help but root for them. And Creedence Clearwater Revival = 🔥🎵. The special effects are a bit meh tho 👀, especially when they're out in daylight 🌞. But hey, it's not like I was expecting some Oscar-winning masterpiece or anything 💁‍♀️. It's just a fun, mindless romp 🍿!

idk why ppl would watch this 🤔, dinosaurs in vietnam is just plain stupid, like what's next? aliens? the special effects are straight outta bad 80s action flick 🎥 and the plot is so predictable i can already guess what happens half way thru. but at the same time, it's kinda mesmerizing in a mindless kind of way 😴, like watching a trainwreck that you don't wanna look away from. gotta give 'em props for keeping it gory tho 🤮

omg I just saw this movie and it was soooo crazy!!! 🤯🦖 like who wouldn't want to watch Green Berets fighting dinosaurs in Vietnam lol? 🤣 the special effects were a bit off though, especially during the day scenes, they looked kinda fake 🤔 but I guess that's what happens when you're watching a lot of gore and action 🎥 the music was on point tho, Creedence Clearwater Revival is such an iconic band 🎸

🐯👀 I just watched this crazy movie and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it 🤯. It's like they took every action movie cliche and mashed them all together into one wild ride. The dinosaurs are kinda cheesy, but in a weird way that works? 😅 I love how the film leans into its absurdity - it's like they're saying "we know this is ridiculous, let's just roll with it" 💪. But at the same time, it feels like they could've taken some more risks and made something truly memorable 🤔. Still, if you're in the mood for mindless entertainment, this might be your jam 🎥👍

omg i just watched primitive war and i'm so confused what's going on with those dinosaurs they're like super realistic but at the same time they look kinda fake lol i mean i get why the filmmakers wanted to go for a more gritty realism but like shouldn't they've tried harder to make them look super realistic? still though it was pretty entertaining and i loved the 60s vibes what's up with that soundtrack tho they shoulda put some of that in the movie itself 🤔

🤔 I just watched Primitive War and I gotta say it was pretty wild! The whole dinosaurs-in-Vietnam thing is just so ridiculous it's kinda cool? 🦖 I mean, the special effects were definitely lacking but I didn't really care since the whole movie felt like an over-the-top action flick. And can we talk about that soundtrack? Creedence Clearwater Revival is a genius choice for setting the tone - it's like they're trying to transport you back to 1960s America 🎸 But what really made this movie work for me was how unapologetically cheesy it was 🤪 I mean, who needs realistic CGI when you can just go big or go home? It's basically a fun guilty pleasure if you ask me. 👍 What about you guys thought of Primitive War? 😁

I'm kinda meh about this movie 🤔🎥... I mean, it's not like it's gonna change the world or anything, but at the same time, I kinda enjoy how over-the-top it is 😂👀. I don't know, maybe it's just my mood, but I think the dinosaurs look a bit weird, especially when they're out in the daylight 🦖😒... but on the other hand, I love how ridiculous the whole premise is! 🤪 It's like the filmmakers just went "why not?" and ran with it 🎉. And that soundtrack? 🙌 Creedence Clearwater Revival all the way, baby! 🎸 But seriously, I guess what I'm saying is... I don't know man 😂🤷‍♂️.
