Pro-Palestine activist on hunger strike says he will begin refusing water

London-based pro-Palestine activist Umer Khalid has announced plans to escalate his hunger strike by refusing water. The 22-year-old Palestine Action-linked remand prisoner has already stopped eating for 13 days, receiving only fluids with electrolytes, sugars, and salts.

Khalid hopes that this drastic action will put pressure on the government to engage in talks with him regarding his demands. He believes that taking such extreme measures is necessary due to the harsh conditions he's facing inside prison. Khalid claims that being held in solitary confinement has disrupted his life, stating, "The strike reflects the severity of my demands."

Khalid's list of demands includes immediate bail, an end to alleged censorship in prison, an inquiry into British involvement in Israeli military operations in Gaza, and the release of surveillance footage from Royal Air Force spy flights that flew over Gaza on April 1, 2024. He also claims that he was involved in a protest at RAF Brize Norton in June, where two planes were spray-painted with Palestine Action's logo.

Critics have condemned Khalid's detention as an attempt to silence him and restrict his ability to express dissenting views. Asim Qureshi from the campaign group Cage has described the government's refusal to negotiate on Khalid's demands as "a clear indication of their lack of concern for human life."

Khalid's family is worried about his deteriorating health due to his pre-existing condition, limb-girdle muscular dystrophy. His mother expressed her fears, stating that she wakes up with thoughts of Umer and sometimes cries herself to sleep.

As the situation unfolds, it remains unclear when Khalid will begin refusing water, and the potential consequences of this decision are dire – dehydration can set in within days without fluids.

omg this is getting really concerning 🀯 he's already been on hunger strike for 13 days and now wants to take it to the next level by not drinking water... i think the government needs to take action ASAP πŸ’‘ they're putting his life at risk, like literally πŸ’€ what kind of pressure does he need to put on them to get those demands met? πŸ€” it's not like he's asking for a lot, just some basic human rights and freedom... i hope his family can handle the stress of this situation, ugh 😩

πŸ€• This guy's life is a total mess. 13 days without food and now he's planning to starve himself even more? He's got a pre-existing condition and his family's worried sick... what if he doesn't make it out of this? And for what? So he can get some attention from the government about his 'demands'? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ I mean, isn't it just easier to negotiate in good health? He's literally playing with fire here. His family must be going through a nightmare with him refusing water... dehydration is super serious and could be fatal. This whole situation just feels really tragic. 😩

πŸ€” This is so worrisome πŸ™. I mean, Umer Khalid's been through enough already, stuck in prison for being a pro-Palestine activist πŸ€–. Thirteen days without food is crazy 😲, and now he's planning to go even further by refusing water πŸ’§? It's not like it's going to make a difference in the grand scheme of things πŸ™„.

I'm all for standing up for what you believe in πŸ—£οΈ, but at what cost? Khalid's family is clearly worried about his health, and that's totally valid πŸ˜•. His condition already sounds pretty rough with limb-girdle muscular dystrophy πŸ’ͺ, and now he's putting himself at risk of dehydration πŸ’¦.

I'm not sure what the government can do to make things right πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ, but they need to act fast ⏱️. This hunger strike and refusal of water is going to have serious consequences 🚨. I just hope Khalid's family gets some support and his loved ones stay strong πŸ’• during this difficult time πŸ’”.

I'm really worried about Umer Khalid's health, he's already gone through 13 days without food and now he's planning to starve himself by not drinking water... πŸ€•πŸ’” It's so sad to think that his family is going through this too, especially with him having a pre-existing condition. I think the government needs to step in and talk to him ASAP, they can't let this situation get out of hand. The lack of clarity on when he'll start refusing water is really scary, it could be days or even hours before someone notices something's wrong... πŸš¨πŸ’¦

I'm worried sick about Umer's health πŸ€•, 13 days without food is already a massive risk for someone with limb-girdle muscular dystrophy... his condition is way more serious than any hunger strike πŸ’”. But at the same time, I totally get why he's doing this - the UK government needs to listen and take action on these serious issues 🚨. 13 days without water could be life-threatening, but if it sparks change then it might just be worth it... Umer's demands are valid, he shouldn't be silenced or locked away for expressing his opinions πŸ’¬. His family is right to be scared 😩, the government needs to step up and show some compassion ASAP ❀️.

ugh what's going on with this guy umer khalid?? i mean idk what his deal is but its kinda crazy that hes going to starve himself now... like whats the point of all these protests and hunger strikes? my cousin had some friends who were in prison for a while and they said it was super harsh but didnt have to go on a hunger strike lol... does anyone know how long this guy has been in solitary confinement already?? 13 days is kinda short, right? what about his fam tho, its really worrisome that his mom has to deal with all this stress & anxiety πŸ€•πŸ’”

Umm... I don't know how much more of these extreme hunger strikes I can take πŸ˜’. Like, I get that people wanna make a statement, but this is taking it to a whole new level, fam 🀯. 13 days without food and now potentially cutting off water too? That's just crazy, man! πŸ’₯ What's next, refusing oxygen? It's one thing to take a stand for what you believe in, but not at the cost of your own life, bruv πŸ‘Š. And can't they just negotiate with him like a normal human being? πŸ€” This is just putting pressure on his family and loved ones who are already worried sick about him πŸ’”. The gov's got to find a way to handle these protests without having to resort to this kinda stuff πŸ™„

I mean, what's next? Are we gonna see someone literally starve themselves to death over some demands? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ I get that he wants attention, but 13 days without food is already super extreme, and now refusing water on top of it... like, chill, dude. His health issues aside, this whole thing just reeks of drama, and the government's gonna end up eating crow if they cave in to his demands. Can't we just have a calm conversation instead? πŸ€”

omg u gotta know the history behind this kid umer khalid he's not just some random activist he's been fighting for palestine since he was a teenager & has already been arrested like 5 times 🀯 his family is literally worried sick about him cuz of his pre-existing condition, it's crazy that the gov't won't even negotiate with him on basic demands like bail or release of footage πŸ“Ή

i mean, i get where khalid is coming from but refusing water is not a good idea fam dehydration can kill you in like 2 days πŸ’€ & his family is already crying themselves to sleep cuz they're worried he won't make it out alive πŸ€• the gov't needs to step up their game & talk to him

and btw, being held in solitary confinement for 13 days is literally a form of torture, no joke πŸ‘Š asim qureshi from cage is right the gov't's refusal to negotiate is a clear indication that they don't care about human life πŸ’”

Umm... I'm literally shook by what's happening to this young dude 🀯😩 Umer Khalid is already going through so much, being held in solitary confinement and all, and now he's got the guts to take on the system by refusing water? πŸ’§πŸ’ͺ I get why he wants attention, but at the same time, I'm worried sick about his health... dude's got a pre-existing condition that could literally kill him πŸ€• and then there's the risk of dehydration setting in within days?! 😨 Days, guys! It's like he's playing with fire, but you can't blame the guy for wanting to fight back against what feels like an unjust system πŸ”₯πŸ’ͺ The world needs more people speaking out about these issues... but at the same time, I wish Umer would reconsider this and prioritize his health πŸ€πŸ’•

My heart goes out to Umer's family and loved ones πŸ€•. This whole situation is just so unfair and stressful for everyone involved. I can imagine how worried his mom must be, constantly thinking about her son and wondering if he'll be okay πŸ’”. It's not fair that Umer has to go through this hunger strike in the first place - shouldn't he have the freedom to express himself without being locked up and silenced? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ The thought of his health deteriorating due to his pre-existing condition is just heartbreaking ❀️. We need to stay with him and his family in our thoughts and send all our positive vibes their way ✨. Let's hope that the government listens to Umer's demands and gives him some answers soon 🀞.

omg this is insane! u gotta feel for the guy he's already been on a hunger strike 13 days and now he's planning to go full keto... like umer needs our support but at the same time i'm really worried about his health πŸ€•πŸ’¦ u guys think the gov'll actually listen to him after this? idk, but we gotta keep pushing for human rights and freedom of expression πŸ’₯πŸ‘Š

I'm really worried about Umer's health πŸ€•πŸ’¦. Thirteen days without food is already super extreme, but if he stops drinking water too... it's like, totally life-threatening. I feel for his family, especially his mum, she sounds so scared πŸ˜”. It's crazy how the government is being so harsh on him, just 'cause he's speaking out about what he believes in 🀝. Khalid's got a right to express himself and have his demands heard, doesn't matter if it's hard for them πŸ‘Š. Can't imagine living with that kind of fear all the time 😟.
