In a video posted on social media, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) announced her endorsement of Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II in the upcoming Democratic primary for governor. Tlaib praised Gilchrist's record on working people, labor unions, and his support for people rebuilding their lives after incarceration.

Tlaib expressed her trust in Gilchrist, stating that he has shown up at picket lines and fought for second chances, particularly for those returning citizens who need a fresh start. She highlighted his work on the Clean Slate Program, which automatically clears records of residents with past convictions after a set number of years, designed to remove barriers to jobs and housing.

The endorsement is likely to boost Gilchrist among progressives and voters who support expanding economic opportunity and reforming the criminal justice system. His outspoken criticism of Israel's military campaign in Gaza and refusal to accept donations from pro-Israel groups may also energize many Arab American voters, a key bloc in next year's Democratic primary.
