Red Wings centennial exhibition coming to Detroit Historical Museum - Detroit Metro Times

Detroit Red Wings Celebrate Century of Hockey with Museum Exhibition

The Motor City's most beloved hockey team, the Detroit Red Wings, is marking a century of excellence on and off the ice. To commemorate this milestone, the Detroit Historical Museum has curated an extensive exhibition that delves into the rich history of the team.

Titled "Detroit Red Wings at 100: Becoming Hockeytown," the multi-media showcase spans across three galleries within the museum, offering a unique glimpse into the world of professional hockey in Detroit. The exhibit features rare artifacts, iconic uniforms, and audio-visual clips from some of the most memorable moments in Red Wings history.

But the exhibition doesn't stop at the Wings alone. It also highlights the city's other notable pro hockey teams, including the Detroit Falcons and the Detroit Cougars. This comprehensive look at Motor City hockey serves as a testament to the enduring passion and dedication of fans like Asia Gholston, Ilitch Sports + Entertainment Senior Vice President of Brand Marketing.

"It's an honor to see a century of Red Wings history brought to life at the Detroit Historical Museum," Gholston said. "Every decade has its own defining moments, and this exhibit gives our fans a special opportunity to celebrate the passion, pride, and legacy that have defined 100 years of Red Wings hockey."

The exhibition is set to open on November 20th at the museum's location at 5401 Woodward Ave., offering an immersive experience for hockey enthusiasts and locals alike. For more information, visit detroithistorical.org.

OMG, can you even believe it?! The Red Wings are turning 100?! 🤯 I've been a fan of theirs since I was little, my grandpa took me to see them play at the Joe Louis Arena and it was life-changing! This museum exhibit sounds so cool, I need to check it out ASAP. I'm all about the retro jerseys and vintage game footage - it's gonna be a blast from the past! 🎥👟 And can we talk about Asia Gholston, she's literally a legend in her own right 💁‍♀️. I'll definitely be adding this to my bucket list, anyone else going?!

I'm thinking about how awesome it is that they're showcasing the Red Wings' history in a museum 🤩. I mean, who wouldn't want to see some of those old jerseys and equipment up close? It's like stepping into hockey heaven. And featuring other teams from Detroit's past is a great touch - it shows that the city has been passionate about hockey for so long. But what really gets me excited is how they're including stories and memories from fans like Asia Gholston, who's basically a Red Wings superfan 😆. November 20th can't come soon enough!

🏒️ I'm thinking it's cool how they're bringing all that history together in one place... a whole three galleries worth of stories and artifacts. It'll be awesome to see old jerseys, sticks, and even audio clips from big games. Plus, getting to see the early teams like Falcons and Cougars will give you an idea of how hockey came to be in Detroit. The fact that it's been going on for so long is crazy... 100 years is a lot! They must've had some amazing players and moments over the years. It'll definitely be a nostalgic trip for any Red Wings fan 🎉

I'm still in awe that the Detroit Red Wings have been around for a century! 😮 Growing up watching them play at Joe Louis Arena (now it's called Little Caesars Arena), I never imagined they'd reach this milestone. The way they celebrate with this museum exhibit is so cool, all these old jerseys and photos... my grandma used to tell me stories about the Wings when she was a kid in the '50s. It's awesome that it's not just about one team, but also showcasing the other teams from Detroit's hockey history. I'm definitely gonna check out this exhibit on opening day 💥

I'm really looking forward to checking out this exhibit 🤔. I mean, who doesn't love a good ol' fashioned hockey game? The fact that it's celebrating 100 years of the Red Wings is pretty cool too - can you imagine all the legendary players and games they've had over the years? I'd love to see some of those uniforms on display, especially the old ones with the distinctive wings logo 🦅. And yeah, I guess it's nice that they're including other teams from Detroit's history too... but let's be real, who needs anyone else when you have the Wings, right? 😂
