Review: Wet Leg packs a powerful punch while AJR brings the party to kick off Q101’s annual holiday blowout

Wet Leg electrified a capacity crowd at Q101's Twisted Xmas kickoff event, delivering a powerful performance that left fans breathless. The British duo's sophomore album "Moisturizer" has been hailed as one of the best albums of the year, and it was clear why as they tore through their setlist with ease.

Frontwoman Rhian Teasdale was in top form, her sassy stage presence and cheeky humor winning over even the most skeptical of audiences. The band's music is a masterclass in balancing raw energy with clever songwriting, and Wet Leg delivered in spades. From the hook-laden "Chaise Longue" to the scathing "CPR", it was clear that this was a band on the rise.

The contrast between Wet Leg's high-octane performance and AJR's whimsical approach couldn't have been more stark. While Wet Leg's set was a masterclass in alt-rock intensity, AJR's 45-minute set was a joyous romp through their unique blend of experimental pop and musical theater. The result was two distinct but equally compelling experiences that left fans eager to see what each band had to offer.

AJR's setlist was a showcase for the band's eclectic range, from the catchy "Bummerland" to the sprawling epic "100 Bad Days". The duo's passion and enthusiasm were palpable, with lead singer Jack Met charming the crowd with his boundless energy. Meanwhile, drummer Chris Berry and trumpet player Arnetta Johnson added depth and texture to AJR's sound, making for a truly immersive experience.

As the night drew to a close, Wet Leg's performance had left fans reeling, while AJR's set had been a breath of fresh air in a holiday concert series that often prioritizes nostalgia over innovation. As Q101's Twisted Xmas continues into its 31st year, it's clear that both bands will be staying on the radar for years to come.

Wet Leg absolutely brought the house down! 🤩 I mean, Rhian Teasdale is just so captivating on stage, and her energy is infectious - it's no wonder they're killing it this year with "Moisturizer"! Their live show is like a masterclass in alt-rock intensity, balancing raw energy with clever songwriting. And can we talk about how different their vibe is from AJR? 😅 Wet Leg is like a shot of adrenaline, while AJR's set was more of a laid-back jam session... it just worked so well for both! I'm loving the diversity this Twisted Xmas lineup has brought - it's not often you see bands pushing boundaries and having that much fun on stage. And honestly, after two sets like these, even if there were some slower moments in the other performances, it was all still worth it 🎉
