I'm low-key worried about the state of the protest at Newcastle Port right now

. I mean, I get it, Rising Tide is trying to draw attention to the climate crisis and all that, but three Greenpeace activists securing themselves to a ship's anchor chain? That's just crazy talk

. And then there are the arrests... 141 people detained so far? That's like, what, half of the whole protest group?
And what's with the police response? All those charges under the Marine Safety Act? That seems like overkill to me

. I'm all for taking a stand against coal exports and climate change, but you can't just use brute force to quash dissenting voices.
You know who should really be getting criticized here - the government

. They're still approving new gas and coal projects left and right? That's just not adding up

. And what about all those billions of dollars in fossil fuel export profits? Shouldn't we be using that money to fund climate change research and mitigation efforts instead of lining the pockets of corporate interests

?
I'm all for peaceful protests, but this one feels like it's getting out of hand

. We need to find a better way to address our climate crisis than resorting to violence and intimidation

.
