Robin Hood review – Sean Bean gifts us the most gloriously bad TV offering of the year

This fall, as autumn leaves begin to wither and winter's chill sets in, fantasy fans can indulge in a peculiar treat: Robin Hood. Starring Sean Bean as the Sheriff of Nottingham, this medieval retelling ticks all the boxes for die-hard enthusiasts – or so it thinks.

In what appears to be a deliberately clumsy attempt at world-building, the show begins with an opening caption that reads like a textbook on Norman Conquest history. It's a refreshing change from the usual formulaic storytelling, but one can't help wondering if this might be an indication of the production's overall ramshackle vibe.

The show's narrative follows the traditional Robin Hood arc, with Hugh of Locksley teaching his young son, Rob (yes, you read that right – no wigs in sight!), archery skills and eventually becoming a royal forester. However, his struggles are quickly derailed by the treacherous Huntingdon and the ruthless Sheriff of Nottingham, played by none other than Sean Bean.

Bean's character is, as one would expect, delightfully villainous, but even he can't elevate this show above its inherently silly premise. The introduction of Priscilla, the medieval nymphomaniac daughter of the sheriff, feels like a tired attempt to add some levity to the proceedings.

One can't help but be charmed by the lack of wigs in this production – it's almost as if someone intervened and said, "No more stringy Yore-hair!" But, alas, this is not enough to redeem a show that feels more like a parody of itself than an actual attempt at storytelling.

Make no mistake, Robin Hood is terrible. But, if you go into it with the right attitude – as one would for a B-movie or camp classic – you might just find yourself having a surprisingly good time. So, by all means, enjoy this guilty pleasure while Sean Bean reapages his paycheck on another questionable project.

.. 🤔 I think this says a lot about our expectation of entertainment these days. We're like "oh yeah, it's Robin Hood...but it's not the usual stuff". It's like we've lost that simple joy in just watching something for fun without overthinking it 😅. And you know what? Maybe that's exactly what this show needs - a little bit of humility and acceptance. If it's meant to be campy, then let's own it! 🎥 Rather than trying to elevate it to something we think it should be.

I gotta say, I'm loving this take on Robin Hood 🤣🏹️ the show's flaws are so obvious, but somehow it still works? Like, who comes up with these characters – a medieval nymphomaniac daughter of the sheriff? 😂 and don't even get me started on the production's world-building...I mean, I appreciate the effort to add some depth, but sometimes less is more, right? The lack of wigs is actually kinda genius, though 🙌 it just goes to show that you can make a show work with a little bit of creative license. If people go in expecting camp and are willing to let loose, they'll probably have a blast 😆👍

lol what is up with this show? i mean, sean bean is like the only reason to watch it lol but even he can't save this mess. they gotta explain everything in a boring history lesson before the main thing even starts 🤣 and that female character Priscilla sounds like a total red flag lol not cool. at least they ditched the wigs tho 😂 but overall its just a lazy take on robin hood. if you wanna watch it with friends who are gonna laugh at how bad it is tho then go for it, im down to mock it together 👍

I mean, come on! 🤦‍♂️ Robin Hood is a total mess! They went for that super detailed history thingy and just phoned it in. I get where they're trying to be all cool and whatnot but the execution is weak sauce . Sean Bean can only do so much with that ridiculous character. And, omg, Priscilla?! 😂♀️ That's some extra nonsense right there. It's like they took every bad 90s fantasy show and mashed them all together into one hot mess of mediocrity 🤪 Still though, if you're gonna sit down for this trainwreck, at least do it with a grain of salt and just enjoy the camp value 😜

OMG, I'm literally DYING over here 😂! The format of this review is EVERYTHING 🤩 - the way it jumps between praise and ridicule, the snarky one-liners... it's like a masterclass in structure 😎. And can we talk about the tone? It's so effortlessly cool, like you're just casually trashing the show while making fun of yourself for doing so 🙄.

But what really gets me is how they balance the more serious criticisms with the lighthearted jabs... it's like a beautifully crafted see-saw of opinions 🤹‍♀️. I mean, who else could make a sentence like "it's almost as if someone intervened and said, 'No more stringy Yore-hair!'" actually sound charming 😊?

I'm giving this review a solid 10/10 for its sheer audacity and commitment to not taking itself seriously 🙌. It's the perfect example of how format can elevate even the most mediocre content... or in this case, make it so hilariously good that you almost don't care it's bad 😂.

I'm so intrigued by how Robin Hood is being reimagined 🤔. I mean, who wouldn't want to see Sean Bean as the Sheriff of Nottingham? 😂 But seriously, I think what's most interesting here is the way the show leans into its own absurdity. Like, yeah, it's a bit silly, and that in itself becomes kind of charming 🌟.

I love how they've ditched the whole wig thing – can you imagine Sean Bean with a bunch of stringy hair? 😂 It's just one of those little details that shows they're playing the show on its own terms. And at the end of the day, I think that's what makes it so enjoyable. It's like a campy B-movie – if you go in expecting it to be cheesy and over-the-top, you'll have a blast 🎥.

But what I'm curious about is how fans of the Robin Hood legend will react to this take on things. Are they going to appreciate the show's irreverence and willingness to poke fun at itself? Or are they just going to want a more traditional retelling? Either way, it's definitely going to be interesting to see how this one plays out 🤔.

I gotta say, I'm loving the campy vibes of this Robin Hood show 😂! Sean Bean as the Sheriff is pure gold – it's like he's having a field day playing the baddie 🤣. The show's silly premise and medieval nymphomaniac daughter are just too much 🙃. But honestly, if you're gonna watch this, don't take it seriously – just go in for the laughs and enjoy the trainwreck 🚂. It's like a bad 90s movie, but with more swords and less mullets 💪🔪. So, yeah, Robin Hood might not be the greatest show ever, but it's definitely entertaining as hell 🤣.

🤦‍♂️ let's be real, robin hood is like the ultimate campy show 🎬. i mean, who needs wigs when u can just go bare-headed? 😎 and sean bean as sheriff of nottingham? 👮‍♂️ perfection! but seriously tho, it feels like they're trying too hard to be "medieval" 🤯, all these fancy captions and whatnot. idk man, maybe its supposed to be cringeworthy? 🤔 anyway, if u want a good laugh just watch it with the right attitude 😂. and sean bean gets paid for this? 🤑 that's just great 👏

omg I cant even 🤣 this robin hood show is like something from the 90s lol sean bean as sheriff of nottingham is still iconic though 😂 but for real tho it feels like they were trying too hard to be serious and ended up being a hot mess 😂 i love how they ditched the wigs tho, now the characters actually look like medieval people 🤷‍♂️ anyway if you wanna watch it with a grain of salt and enjoy its campy goodness go for it! 🎬

awww man 😔 this show sounds so flawed but also kinda... entertaining? 🤣 it's like they tried to make it serious but ended up being way too silly instead? 🤷‍♀️ sean bean is always a silver lining though, even as the bad guy he's still gonna bring that charisma 💁‍♂️ what's your fave campy classic though? 😄

🤷‍♂️ I'm not sure what's more cringeworthy - the show's over-explaining of historical events or the lack of wigs 🙄. It feels like they're trying too hard to be different and end up being...well, not great. Sean Bean is definitely the highlight, but even his awesomeness can't save this mess. If you watch it with a grain of salt (or a pint of your favorite brew), you might enjoy it as a ridiculous guilty pleasure 🍺👀. Otherwise, there are better ways to spend your time 😐.

I'm so down for this medieval mess 🤣. I mean who needs coherent storytelling and well-developed characters when you can have Robin Hood as a parody of itself? It's like they took every cliché from the genre and mashed them all together into one big mess. But hey, at least Sean Bean is having fun playing the bumbling Sheriff of Nottingham...and he's still rocking that bald head 🤪!

I dunno about this Robin Hood show... it seems like they're trying to be serious but end up being kinda silly 🤔. I mean, who names their son Rob? 😂 And what's with the nymphomaniac daughter? It just feels like they're throwing random stuff at the wall and hoping something sticks 🎯.

But you know what? I kinda get why people would watch this show if they go in expecting a campy good time. Sean Bean is always fun to watch, even when he's playing a bad guy 😏. Maybe it's not everyone's cup of tea, but hey, at least it's not boring 💤.

I'd rather watch some actual Robin Hood stories with the original Guy of Gisbourne and Maid Marian though 👑. This one just seems like a weird mashup of different ideas 🤷‍♂️. Still, I might give it a try if I see it on streaming or something... but only if I'm in the mood for a silly guilty pleasure 😄

OMG, I'm low-key excited about this medieval retelling of Robin Hood 🤣! The lack of wigs is HILARIOUS 😂 and I love how they're not afraid to poke fun at themselves. It's like they're giving us a big ol' middle finger to the usual fantasy show formulae 😉. And Sean Bean as the Sheriff? He's still got it, no matter how silly the show is 🙌! But, for real, if you go in with the right mindset (B-movie camp vibes, anyone?) you might actually have a blast 🎥👍!

I'm not sure about this one... I mean, I love a good Robin Hood tale as much as the next guy! 🤔 But this show just doesn't seem to be hitting the mark, does it? 😐 The whole thing feels like it's trying too hard to be all serious and historical, you know? Like, yeah, we get it, Sean Bean is playing the Sheriff of Nottingham... but can't we just have some fun with it instead? 🤷‍♂️ I mean, Priscilla sounds like a character straight out of a campy rom-com! 💁‍♀️ And don't even get me started on the lack of wigs... I kinda love that about it though! 😊 Maybe I'm just being too optimistic, but I still think there's something to be said for giving this show a shot, you know? It might not be perfect, but sometimes those "bad" movies are actually kind of fun. 🎥 So, yeah, if you're in the mood for a silly adventure with Sean Bean, go for it! 😄

I dunno about this Robin Hood show 🤔... they're tryin' too hard to be clever and it feels like they're playin' at being medieval history instead of actually makin' a good story 📚. The plot's all over the place, like they threw a bunch of random characters and situations together and hoped it'd stick 🔪. And Sean Bean's character is just so over-the-top evil 😈... I mean, I love him in his normal roles, but here he just feels like he's hammin' it up 🤡. Still, if you're gonna watch it, might as well have some fun with it and not take yourself too seriously 😂.
