Rodman's future and Liverpool in need to buy – welcome to the women's transfer window

The transfer window in women's football has reached a point where $12.3m (£9.1m) was spent just in the summer of 2025, nearly four times more than what was spent last year. This increase is set to continue into January 2026 with several high-profile players entering their final six months of contract.

Players like Khadija Shaw, Sam Kerr, Catarina Macario, Ella Toone, Hannah Hampton, Georgia Stanway, Caroline Weir, and Trinity Rodman are among those whose futures are uncertain. This has led to a situation where the transfer window is likely to be unpredictable and volatile.

Several clubs have already announced significant signings in January. Lea Schüller and Signe Gaupset have joined Women's Super League clubs, while Barcelona has signed several new players. Arsenal is also on the hunt for a goalkeeper and right-back, with Smilla Holmberg reportedly being their top target.

Manchester United's arrival of Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich has sparked excitement about the future of women's football in England. They've also brought in Hanna Lundkvist and Hinata Miyazawa to strengthen their squad.

Tottenham, however, have been quieter this January, but they announced the signing of 21-year-old Matilda Nildén from Häcken, joining Lea Gaupset and Hanna Wijk at the club.

The most pressing concern for Liverpool is their extensive injury list. They're expected to be very active in January to sign new players and bolster their squad.

However, with no major tournaments taking place this year, such as a World Cup or Euros, it's unlikely that the desperation to secure more first-team minutes will drive January signings like it did last season. The question remains whether enough dominoes will fall for teams struggling at the bottom of the table to make some key signings and turn their fortunes around.

Omg I'm low-key shocked by how much money is being spent on female footballers this year! 🤑 Like, £9.1m last year was already a lot, but $12.3m? That's crazy! 💸 And with so many high-profile players entering their final contract months, it's like teams are just throwing money at the problem. 💥 I think it's safe to say that women's football is getting some serious love and investment right now. 🙌 But at the same time, I'm a little worried about the financial sustainability of this trend. Will these clubs be able to afford all this without sacrificing their team dynamics or resources? ⚽️ Only time will tell! 😬

Wow 🤯 I mean, 12.3m spent on just one summer is wild 💸 like what's next? And these players are all in contract danger, so we might see a lot more surprises in January 🤔 interesting to see how teams will adapt and try to strengthen their squads 💪

I'm kinda surprised by all these big money transfers happening in women's football this season 🤑. Last year, I was expecting more teams to splurge on star players, but it seems like they're playing it safe now that everyone is getting paid equally 💸. The uncertainty around some of the top players' futures is definitely adding to the unpredictability of this transfer window though 🤔. It'll be interesting to see how teams like Liverpool manage their resources with all these injuries piling up ⚽️.

I think it's crazy how much money is being spent on women's football right now 🤑💸! It's great to see more investment in the sport, but I'm also a bit worried that teams might get carried away and spend too much on transfers 💔😬. We need to make sure that the top talent can actually work together as a team 🤝💪 rather than just spending a fortune on individual players.

Also, I'd love to see more fans coming out to support the teams in person 😊👏! It's not just about the money, but also about creating an electric atmosphere for the games 💥🎉. The Manchester United signing of Lea Schüller is super exciting though 🤩👌! And I'm curious to see how the Liverpool injury crisis will affect their transfer business in January 🤕🏥.

I just hope that all this hype doesn't overshadow the fact that women's football is still growing and needs our support 🙏💖. We need to keep pushing for more equality and recognition for the sport, but also celebrate the amazing players and teams we have right now 💪👯‍♀️! #WomenInFootball #Transfers #EqualityForAll

🤔 just thinkin about how much money is bein spent on these female players rn its crazy... £9.1m last year, now its almost 10 times that lol... i mean im happy for them & all but can u imagine if thats money was goin towards investin in grassroots programs or somethin 🤷‍♀️

I'm low-key hyped about the transfer window this year 🤩! I mean, $12.3m spent already? That's crazy! And with players like Khadija Shaw and Sam Kerr on the market, it's gonna be a wild ride. I think the increase in spending is a good thing for women's football - it shows that clubs are investing in their teams and giving them the best chance to succeed.

I'm also loving the news about Manchester United bringing in Lea Schüller 🤩! That's amazing for the league, and I think they're gonna do some cool things with their squad. And while Tottenham might not be making as many moves, signing Matilda Nildén is still a big deal 💪.

The thing that really gets me excited is that this transfer window is all about giving players opportunities to shine 🌟! With no major tournaments on the horizon, it's gonna be all about developing young talent and creating a balanced squad. So, even with some uncertainty around certain players' futures, I'm feeling optimistic about the future of women's football 💛

omg i'm so confused about women's football transfers lol 🤯 they're spending so much money now 💸 and i'm not even sure what's going on anymore 😂 it seems like every other day a big name is joining a new team or leaving another one... i mean i get that the game is getting more popular and all, but 12.3m is just wild 🤯 anyways i think the teams at the bottom of the table need to be super careful about who they sign because it's easy to end up with players who aren't fitting in or are just not good enough 😔

🤔 I think this transfer window is crazy! $12.3m in just one summer? It's wild how fast it's changed, isn't it? 🚀 Last year was like a different game altogether. Now, it seems like every club is throwing money at the problem to attract top talent. I'm not sure if that's going to help or hinder teams struggling at the bottom of the table... I mean, are they just getting more expensive or what? 💸 Meanwhile, I love seeing big-name players joining new clubs! Lea Schüller at Manchester United is so exciting for women's football in England... 🏆
