Senne Lammens on dealing with Man Utd 'pressure' & Schmeichel comparisons

Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens has been open about the pressure he feels of being the first-choice keeper at Old Trafford. The 26-year-old, who was recently named as the preferred starter by manager Erik ten Hag, admitted that it can be overwhelming at times.

Lammens drew comparisons to legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, a United legend who is widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers in the club's history. However, Lammens has reassured fans that he is not trying to emulate his predecessor and is instead focused on establishing himself as a top-class keeper in his own right.

"I think it's natural for people to compare me to Peter Schmeichel," Lammens said. "He's an amazing goalkeeper and one of the best United have ever had. But I'm just trying to do my own thing and make sure that I'm giving the team everything I can."

Lammens, who joined United from Antwerp in 2022, has been impressive in his short time at the club, winning several trophies and helping the team reach the Champions League quarterfinals.

When asked about the pressure of being number one at Old Trafford, Lammens said: "It's a big responsibility, but I'm trying to take it on board and enjoy it. I know that I'm not just playing for myself, but for the whole club, so I try to give everything I can to make sure that we're successful."

Despite the pressure, Lammens remains confident in his abilities and is focused on continuing to improve. "I'm just trying to take it one game at a time and see how far I can go," he said.

With his maturity and experience growing rapidly, many fans are starting to believe that Lammens has what it takes to become the next great United goalkeeper. And with his leadership qualities and shot-stopping ability, he's definitely one to watch in the coming seasons.

man 26 already feels the pressure of being no1 keeper 😩 remember when david de gea was young and just trying to make it as a keeper at united? now they're like the best in world and no pressure πŸ™„ lammens is lucky he's got the talent but gotta learn from past keepers like schmeichel who was an icon for sure πŸ‘

I think there's something fishy about this whole story πŸ€”. I mean, have you noticed how quick Lammens jumped into that starting spot? It's like Erik ten Hag just handed him a golden ticket without even giving him a chance to prove himself properly. And now he's saying it's all natural for people to compare him to Schmeichel? Come on, that's some strong motivation right there 😏. I'm not saying Lammens isn't talented, but let's not forget that Schmeichel was a legend for a reason. Is ten Hag trying to create another myth or what? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I feel bad for this guy Senne Lammens, he's under so much pressure already just because of being the new number 1 at Old Trafford πŸ€• but you know what's even crazier? He's trying not to be like Peter Schmeichel, which is actually a pretty big goal considering how legendary that guy was πŸ’ͺ I think it's awesome that Lammens is trying to carve his own path and not just copy someone else's style. And honestly, if he can keep playing well and leading the team to success, then who cares what anyone else thinks? He should get the respect he deserves πŸ™Œ

OMG, I'm loving Senne Lammens' vibe right now 🀩! He's being super humble about all the pressure he's under and focusing on doing his own thing, which is really admirable πŸ’―. It's awesome that he's drawing inspiration from Peter Schmeichel's legacy instead of trying to fill huge shoes πŸ‘£. But honestly, I think Lammens has got this 🀞! He seems like a mature and confident keeper who's ready for the big stage ⚽️. If he keeps working hard and enjoying it, I think he'll be an absolute rockstar at Old Trafford 😎!

πŸ€” You know how Senne Lammens feels about being the number one keeper at Old Trafford? It's actually kinda cool that he's not trying to copy Peter Schmeichel's style, but rather focus on being his own goalkeeper. I mean, we can all relate to feeling pressure in our daily lives, whether it's work or school, and Lammens is doing a great job of managing that pressure by taking it one game at a time. He's also not just thinking about himself, but about the team as a whole, which shows he's got good leadership qualities πŸ’ͺ. It's all about finding your own path and not comparing yourself to others – just like how Lammens is trying to carve his own niche in the football world! πŸ‘

I'm telling you, something fishy is going on at Manchester United πŸ€”. Senne Lammens seems like a super nice guy and all, but have you noticed how fast he got the number one spot? It's almost too convenient 😏. And then he's suddenly drawing comparisons to Peter Schmeichel, who's basically a legend in the sport. I mean, what are the chances of that happening? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ It just seems like Lammens is getting all the attention and praise without putting in the real work πŸ’ͺ.

And don't even get me started on the pressure he's talking about πŸ˜…. He's saying it's a big responsibility, but I'm sure he's been handling it just fine until recently πŸ”₯. It's almost like they want him to fail so they can bring in someone else 🀯. Mark my words, there's more to this story than meets the eye πŸ‘€.

I feel for the guy 😊. Being the first-choice keeper at Old Trafford must be a big deal, but at the same time, it's good that he's taking it on board and not trying to copy his idol Peter Schmeichel πŸ™. I think what's great about Senne is that he's focusing on doing his own thing and giving everything to the team. It's all about confidence, right? ⚽️ He's got some big shoes to fill, but if anyone can do it, it's him πŸ’ͺ!

senne lammens is like the GOAT of being under pressure lol [giggles]

[Video clip of David Beckham falling off a bike]

he's got this "it's a big responsibility" vibe goin on [whistles]

idk why ppl still compare him 2 schmeichel lol like cmon lammens is good 4 himself he dont need 2 live up 2 some legend lol and i gotta say i think he's handling it pretty well, the pressure at old Trafford can be insane, but he seems 2 be taking it in stride

πŸ€” Lammens is definitely a talented keeper but I don't think he's got a clue how big Manchester United is 🏰 it's not just about playing for yourself, its about giving the whole club everything you've got. He needs to realize that and stop comparing himself to Schmeichel, the dude was on another level πŸ”₯

I'm so excited for Senne Lammens! 🀩 He seems like a really down-to-earth guy who just wants to do his best for the team. I mean, can you blame him? The pressure at Old Trafford is huge, but he's showing that he's up for it. I love how he's not trying to emulate Peter Schmeichel, he's forging his own path and it's really inspiring to see. He's got a lot of maturity and leadership qualities already, and with the team's success so far, I think he's definitely on track to become an incredible goalkeeper.

idk about this whole senne lammens hype πŸ€” i mean dont get me wrong hes been decent but is he really on schmeichel level yet? πŸ™„ i feel like ppl r putting too much pressure on him 2 be perfect, its normal 4 him 2 make mistakes, its all part of the game. btw, whats w/ fans expecting someone 2 fill the big man's shoes? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ schmeichel was a legend for a reason, cant nobody replace that πŸ’”

πŸ˜’ I mean, who can blame him for feeling a bit of pressure? I'd feel overwhelmed too if I was stuck playing third string at some old club (you know, just saying πŸ™„). But seriously, it's great that he's not trying to be Peter Schmeichel 2.0 and is instead forging his own path. I'm excited to see how he develops and whether he can live up to the hype. πŸ‘€

πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ‘€ Lammens is like the "Keep Calm and Carry On" meme, but instead of just saying it, he's actually taking on the pressure πŸ€Ήβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’ͺ. He's not trying to be Schmeichel 2.0, he's his own keeper πŸ”΄βš½οΈ! And honestly, who wouldn't want a keeper who's got leadership qualities and can stop shots like it's nobody's business? πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘Š

I mean come on, 26 and you're already feeling the pressure? πŸ™„ It's like, dude, you've just joined a big club and suddenly you're expected to be Peter Schmeichel 2.0. I'm not saying he didn't have it in him, but Lammens seems pretty chill about it all. Maybe that's why they call him the "next generation" keeper? He's still got some growing up to do, you know? πŸ€” And let's be real, if anyone can back it up, it's him. I'm rooting for him to prove everyone wrong and just enjoy the ride.

I don't know about all this hype around Senne Lammens, I mean, being the first-choice keeper at Old Trafford is a big deal, but can it really live up to the Schmeichel legend? πŸ€” I'm not convinced that he's got what it takes to be considered one of the best United goalkeepers ever. And all this pressure from fans and manager Erik ten Hag must take a toll on him... I just hope he doesn't burn out or start making mistakes because of it πŸ’ͺ

I think its cool how Lammens is keeping things low-key despite all the hype around him πŸ™Œ He's not trying to be Peter Schmeichel 2.0, which I respect about him. At the same time, who wouldn't want to play for Manchester United? It's a dream come true for many young goalies, and Lammens seems to be handling it all pretty well πŸ‘

I do worry though that he might get caught up in the pressure of performing on the biggest stage every week 🀯 Its easy to lose your cool under that kind of spotlight. Still, from what I've seen so far, he's doing alright for himself 😊 The way he talks about taking it one game at a time and not just focusing on his own stats but also the team's overall performance is really refreshing πŸ’ͺ

All in all, I'm excited to see how Lammens continues to develop as a player and maybe even surprise us with some clutch performances 🎯

πŸ€” I feel bad for this kid, Lammens is under so much pressure already at 26... I mean, coming from Antwerp, he had a great start but now he's expected to be like Schmeichel πŸ™Œ which is crazy talk! He's doing alright, winning trophies and all that, but comparing himself to the GOAT? That's just too much on his shoulders 😬. At some point, you gotta let him breathe, be himself and make mistakes without the whole club watching πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

πŸ€” You know what really got me thinking about Senne Lammens' situation? It's not just about being the first-choice keeper at Manchester United, it's about the weight of expectation that comes with wearing a legendary jersey like Peter Schmeichel's. I mean, when you're seen as a direct replacement for someone who was basically god-like in between the posts, there's got to be some pressure cooker vibes going on πŸ’¦.

It's interesting how Lammens is trying to focus on being his own keeper, rather than emulating the greats. Can we say that's what's truly admirable? I'd argue it's not about trying to fill someone else's shoes, but about forging your own path and making a name for yourself. And if he can do just that, without losing sight of what's important – the team's success – then I think he'll be just fine πŸ™Œ
