SheWolf’s Anthony Lombardo readies to open Medusa in Detroit - Detroit Metro Times

Medusa Cucina Siciliana Set to Open in Detroit's Midtown Neighborhood

A new restaurant is set to open in a highly sought-after space in Detroit's Midtown neighborhood, marking another turn in the revolving door of concepts that has come and gone from 664 Selden St. in recent years. The building, which has seen its fair share of ups and downs, will soon be home to Medusa Cucina Siciliana, a new Italian restaurant helmed by chef Anthony Lombardo.

Lombardo is no stranger to the Detroit food scene, co-owning the popular SheWolf Pastificio & Bar just a block away from the new venture. However, Medusa promises to take things in a different direction, focusing on dishes inspired by the cuisine of Sicily and the broader Mediterranean region. The menu will feature a range of pasta and seafood options, all centered around the simple yet bold flavors of olive oil, capers, olives, tomatoes, and anchovies.

According to Lombardo, Medusa aims to tell the story of Sicily through its menu, service, and hospitality, with the goal of educating diners about the uniqueness of this special place. "The food's simple: olive oil, capers, olives, tomatoes, anchovies," he explained in an interview with Hour Detroit magazine. "We're going to tell the story of Sicily through our menu, through our service and our hospitality, and hopefully teach everyone about the uniqueness of this very special place."

With renovations underway by Patrick Thompson Design, Medusa is expected to open its doors in late December or early January. The new restaurant promises to bring a fresh perspective to Detroit's culinary scene, and foodies are eager to get their hands on Lombardo's Sicilian-inspired creations.

🤔 This new Italian place sounds like it's gonna be fire 🌶️! I'm all about trying new flavors and getting lost in the Mediterranean vibes. Anthony Lombardo's got some serious skills cooking up those pasta dishes with olive oil, capers, and anchovies... my mouth is watering just thinking about it 😋. Can't wait to see what Medusa Cucina Siciliana brings to Detroit's food scene!

I'm not sold on this latest fad yet 🤔... another Italian restaurant opening up in Detroit's Midtown? I mean, we've had our fair share of that already, right? And isn't it just a bit overdone? Don't get me wrong, Sicilian cuisine is amazing and all, but I need to see some real innovation here 🍝. Is Medusa Cucina Siciliana going to bring something new to the table or is it just another generic Italian spot trying to cash in on the trend? I'm keeping my eye out for that mid-January opening... hope they bring the heat! 🔥

I'm super stoked about this new Italian spot opening up in Midtown! I mean, who doesn't love a good pasta dish? 🍝 But seriously, the fact that Chef Anthony Lombardo is putting his own spin on Sicilian cuisine is really exciting. I've always been fascinated by the food from that region and how it's influenced so many other parts of Italy.

I'm loving the idea of Medusa focusing on simple yet bold flavors like olive oil, capers, olives, tomatoes, and anchovies. It sounds like they're going for a more authentic, traditional vibe, which is always a win in my book! And I love how Chef Lombardo wants to tell the story of Sicily through his menu, service, and hospitality – it's all about sharing that unique culture with the community.

I'm also curious to see what Patrick Thompson Design has done with the renovations. It sounds like they're working their magic to make Medusa a cozy and inviting spot for foodies. Late December or early January can't come soon enough! I'll be there as soon as it opens, ready to dive into those Sicilian-inspired dishes 🍴

I'm lovin' the idea of Medusa Cucina Siciliana opening up in Midtown Detroit! But you know what this means? It's another example of gentrification takin' over our neighborhoods. I mean, think about it, a new restaurant comin' into a spot that's already seen its fair share of turnover - is this just another sign that the city's movin' in a more affluent direction?

And let's talk about the concept itself... is this just another case of 'cuisine as colonialism'? I mean, Lombardo's takin' Sicilian cuisine and puttin' it on a menu for American tastes. What about the cultural context? Is he truly representin' the culture of Sicily, or is he just cashin' in?

But, at the end of the day, it's all about the food, right? And if Medusa Cucina Siciliana serves up some tasty dishes that make Detroiters and visitors alike feel like they're in the Mediterranean, then I'm all for it! Just don't forget about the socio-economic implications behind the opening of this restaurant.

Ugh I'm so over this trendy restaurant thing 🤦‍♀️. First it was the artisanal donuts and now it's some Italian place with overpriced pasta 🍝. I mean, I love a good plate of spaghetti as much as the next person, but come on, Detroit's got better food than that. Remember when we had real diners like Buddy's or American Coney Island? Now it's all fancy-schmancy places trying to recreate the past 😒. And don't even get me started on the prices... I could've gotten a whole bunch of pasta dishes at Joe Muer's back in the day for what they're charging now 🤑. Anyway, I guess it's nice that chef Lombardo is bringing some Sicilian flair to the table, but let's not forget about our own Detroit classics 💯

omg u guys i just can't even rn i'm so down for this new italian spot in detroit i've been craving some real authentic sicilian food since my last trip to italy 🤩 and now anthony lombardo is bringing the heat with medusa cucina siciliana 💁‍♀️ i love that he's focusing on using simple yet bold flavors like olive oil, capers, olives, tomatoes, and anchovies...i mean who doesn't love a good pasta dish? 🍝👌 can't wait to try it out when it opens in late dec/early jan 🎉

omg i'm so hyped for medusa cucina siciliana to open up! it sounds like they're going to bring some serious authentic flavor to detroit's midtown neighborhood 🤩 anthony lombardo is a genius and his focus on simple yet bold flavors is gonna be a game changer. i love how he wants to educate diners about the uniqueness of sicily through his menu, service, and hospitality that's so cool! can't wait to try some of those pasta and seafood options 🍝🐟 gotta support more italian food spots in detroit 💖

I'm skeptical about this new Italian place in Midtown... 664 Selden St has been a disaster zone for restaurants already 🤔. What makes Medusa think they can succeed where others have failed? It's just more of the same, another trendy spot that'll be out of business in 6 months 🕰️. I mean, how original is "Italian food with olive oil and capers"? Chef Lombardo thinks he's gonna educate us about Sicily, but I bet his pasta dishes will all taste the same 😒. And don't even get me started on the renovation costs... this place is just gonna be another money pit 💸. I'll believe it when I see some decent reviews and not just a bunch of Instagram influencers swooning over their $15 pasta bowls 📸

Wow 🤯 this sounds like an amazing restaurant! I'm so down for trying that delicious Italian cuisine! 664 Selden St can't wait to be home to Medusa Cucina Siciliana, Anthony Lombardo is definitely a genius chef with his concept of bringing the story of Sicily through food. Simple yet bold flavors are always winners in my book and the fact that he wants to educate diners about this special place is really cool!

I'm low-key hyped about this new Italian spot in Midtown! I mean, who doesn't love a good pasta dish? 🍝 The fact that it's inspired by Sicily is lit - I've been meaning to try some authentic Mediterranean cuisine for ages. Anthony Lombardo seems like a total boss, having run another popular restaurant nearby and all. Fingers crossed the renovations are done on time, 'cause I'm dying to get my taste buds on those capers & olives! 🤩 It's gonna be sick when it opens up in Dec/Jan - can't wait to try Medusa Cucina Siciliana out for myself! 😋

I'm both excited and skeptical about this new Italian spot 🤔 Medusa Cucina Siciliana sounds like it could be a game-changer for Detroit's food scene, especially if they can really bring the unique flavors of Sicily to life on their menu. Anthony Lombardo's experience with SheWolf Pastificio & Bar is definitely a plus, but only time will tell if he can maintain that level of quality and consistency at Medusa.

I mean, we've seen so many restaurants open and close in this area before 🚫💔, so it's hard to get too hyped up about anything until you actually try the food. But if they can pull off a solid menu with fresh ingredients and creative twists on classic dishes, I'd be all over it 👌

omg I'm so stoked about this new restaurant opening up in Midtown! I mean, Italian food is always a winner in my book 🍝👌, but the fact that it's going to be all about Sicily and the Mediterranean region sounds super interesting. I love how the chef is trying to tell the story of Sicily through the menu and service... like, isn't that what food is supposed to do anyway? bring people together and share a little bit of culture? 🤔

I'm also curious to try some pasta with just olive oil and capers - sounds super simple but also kind of genius. And anchovies, yay! I've been meaning to get on the whole anchovy bandwagon for ages... do you guys like anchovies in your food? 🤷‍♀️

🤔 the thing that struck me about this new Italian place is how they're not trying to reinvent the wheel, but rather tell a story with their food... it's like they're saying "hey, we may be small, but we've got big flavors and a rich history to share" 🍝⚡️ what i think is cool is that they're focusing on simple ingredients, like olive oil and capers, to bring out the unique taste of sicily... it's all about embracing simplicity, you know? sometimes the best things in life are the ones that don't need a lot of fuss or embellishment 💯

idk why it took so long for a decent italian place to pop up in detroit - like the city loves pasta but cant seem to get it right 🤷‍♂️ anyway, hope this place lives up to antony lombardos hype, his other spot she wolf has been on point, and medusas menu sounds super on point btw anchovies? 🐟

omg i'm so down for this new restarant! medusa cucina siciliana sounds like it's gonna be an amazing experience with that focus on sicilian cuisine 🍝👌 i love how chef anthony lombardo is tryin to educate ppl about the unique flavors and culture of sicily thru his menu & service - can't wait to try some pasta & seafood dishes inspired by the mediterranean region! 💦

ill be so down to try out medusa cucina siciliana when it opens 🤩 i love italian food and the idea of focusing on sicily is really appealing. im curious about how anthony lombardo plans to educate diners about the cuisine - will there be a special menu or presentation that highlights different dishes? 🍝👀 also, has anyone seen pictures of the new restaurant's interior design? cant wait for renovation pics 🏗️

I'm so stoked about this new restaurant opening up in Midtown! I mean, Italian food is always a winner in my book 🍝. But what really gets me excited is that it's not just another generic Italian place - it's gonna be all about the Sicilian vibes and flavors, you know? Anthony Lombardo seems like a total boss with his concept of sharing the story of Sicily through food, service, and hospitality. I love how he's all about keeping things simple yet bold, using ingredients like olive oil, capers, olives, tomatoes, and anchovies - it sounds so delicious! And can you imagine sipping on some wine while learning about the history and culture behind the dishes? That's what foodie heaven feels like for me. Bring it on, Medusa Cucina Siciliana!

I'm so stoked for this new spot! A Mediterranean twist in Detroit is just what we need 😊. I've been following Chef Anthony Lombardo's journey and I think he's gonna knock it out of the park with Medusa Cucina Siciliana. I love that he's all about sharing the flavors and culture of Sicily - it's always dope to explore new cuisines and get educated on where food comes from. And let's be real, who doesn't love a good plate of pasta or seafood? The renovation pics look fire too 🏠💼 Can't wait to try it out in December!

I'm super hyped about Medusa Cucina Siciliana opening up in Midtown Detroit 🤩, but I gotta say, I'm also kinda curious if it'll live up to the hype. Chef Anthony Lombardo is already making waves with SheWolf Pastificio & Bar, so I trust his culinary skills. The idea of exploring Mediterranean flavors through Sicilian cuisine sounds amazing, especially with a focus on simple yet bold ingredients like olive oil and capers 💦🌿.

However, I do hope they don't just stick to Italian dishes; a bit of creativity wouldn't hurt 🤔. And what's the story behind this name Medusa? Is it gonna be a wild ride or more like a chill dining experience? Either way, I'm down to try some Sicilian goodness and support local talent 🙌🏼💪
