Michigan Rep. Shri Thanedar Announces Plans to Impeach Defense Secretary Hegseth Over Alleged War Crimes
A new player has entered the impeachment fray in Washington, D.C. as Representative Shri Thanedar of Michigan announced plans to file articles of impeachment against U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth over allegations that Hegseth issued orders to "kill everybody" on a Venezuelan drug smuggling boat and discussed pending attacks on Yemen in a group chat.
Thanedar, a billionaire entrepreneur from the pharmaceutical industry and immigrant from India, represents parts of Detroit, downriver, and the Grosse Pointe communities. The congressman has a history of taking on high-profile targets, having previously filed seven articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump in April.
According to Thanedar, Hegseth's actions amount to "impeachable misconduct" and put American servicemembers and their families at risk every day he serves as Secretary of Defense. He also claims that Hegseth violated the Defense Department's Law of War Manual by issuing orders to kill civilians on a civilian boat.
Thanedar pointed to a group chat between Hegseth and other officials in which they discussed pending attacks on Yemen, including target systems and attack times. The congressman argues that this mishandling of classified information has put American lives at risk.
The announcement was made during a rally in Washington, D.C., where Thanedar told the crowd that "In this country, we have presidents, not kings." He emphasized that Hegseth's actions constitute tyranny rather than leadership and that if left unchecked, they would undermine the rule of law.
Democratic Party leadership has dismissed the possibility of impeaching Hegseth, with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries stating that Republicans will never allow articles of impeachment to be brought to the floor. However, Jeffries did suggest that Hegseth should resign rather than face impeachment proceedings.

This is what's happening with some politicians in our country, they just want power and don't care about the consequences of their actions. It's time for them to face the music and be held accountable for their mistakes.

It's crazy that someone would even think about impeaching the Defense Secretary over some alleged war crimes. I mean, I get it, people are upset, but isn't this just getting into a whole new level of politics?
