‘Singing for Stolen Children’ Escaping Russian Abduction. A Ukrainian teeenager’s account.

A chilling tale of survival and resilience, one that has left a 17-year-old Ukrainian girl, Liza, forever changed by her harrowing experiences.

In the midst of Russia's brutal annexation of Ukraine, Liza was forcibly torn from her home. Along with tens of thousands of other children, she was sent to Russia or occupied territories, where she was subjected to unimaginable suffering and trauma. The situation is nothing short of a humanitarian disaster, with nearly 1,900 children having been returned since the conflict began.

For Liza, however, the nightmare is far from over. The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin, charging him with unlawful deportation. While Moscow claims the evacuation was a "humanitarian measure," independent investigators are digging deeper to uncover the truth.

Liza's story is one of courage and defiance in the face of unimaginable fear. She recounts her harrowing journey from Ukraine to Russia, where she was forced to endure cruel treatment at the hands of her captors. Her remarkable tale has also given voice to a generation of Ukrainian children who have been lost to this conflict.

One of these young victims is Liza herself, who, as part of the Ukrainian music group Daughters of Donbass, has found solace and strength in singing out against the atrocities committed by Russian forces.

😔 it's just heartbreaking to think about all those kids going through this 🤕 liza's story is so brave but also super scary... how can one person cause so much pain & suffering? 😩 i feel for these kids, being forced to leave their homes & families like that must be so traumatic for them 🤗 it's amazing they've found a way to cope through music - singing out against the injustices is such an empowering thing to do 💖 we gotta hope justice gets served for liza & others like her 🙏

its just heartbreaking to think about what liza went through 🤕. i mean, 17 and already forced to flee her home with thousands of other kids... its like, what even is that? anyway, its awesome that she found a way to channel her pain into something powerful like singing, especially as part of daughters of donbass - those young people are truly inspiring 💖. i hope liza gets the justice she deserves, though... 1,900 kids have been returned so far, but there are still thousands more out there 🤞

🤯 Can't even imagine being a kid in the middle of all this chaos, knowing your home & family are just a few miles away but can't be with you 🌎. Russia's actions towards Ukraine are straight up messed up, no way to justify what they're doing ⚠️. I'm so glad Liza found her voice through music, she's an inspiration to all the other kids out there who've been through similar trauma 😊. The fact that Putin is now on the ICC wanted list is a big deal, hope justice catches up with him eventually 👮‍♂️. But seriously, what's gonna happen to these 1,900+ kids who got sent back? Do they get support? Reunited with their families? 🤔

🤯 can't believe Putin's getting away with this on a global scale we need to hold him accountable for these crimes against humanity, it's not just about Ukraine anymore, it's about our collective responsibility as human beings 🌎💪

Ugh, can't believe what's happening with those kids 🤯. I mean, I know we all want to keep things civil, but come on, Putin needs to answer for this 💔. It's not just about the kids, it's about setting a precedent that no one is above the law. We need to be supporting these brave young voices like Liza and her group Daughters of Donbass 🎤. Their music is giving me chills and I'm so proud of them for speaking out against this senseless violence 😊. We need more people to share their stories and demand justice 💪.

Can you even imagine having your whole life turned upside down like that? I mean, 17 is young, she's already been through so much 🤯. It's crazy to think about how many kids have had to go through something like this - over 1,900! That's just...wow. And now the ICC is all up in arms about Putin getting a warrant for his arrest? Like, about time, right? 😏 But seriously, it's heartbreaking to hear about Liza and all the others who've been affected by this conflict. Music can be such an amazing way to cope with trauma, though - maybe singing can help her find some peace again 💖.

🤕 my heart goes out to liza & all those kids affected by this senseless war 🌟 it's just not right that these young lives are being torn apart like this we need more ppl talking about the human side of this conflict, not just politics & news 💬 what can we do as a global community to make sure these kids get the help they need?

😱 can't believe what's happening to these kids 🤯 17 years old and already been through so much trauma, it's heartbreaking thinking about what they must have gone through in Russia 🤕 Liza's story is inspiring but also so sad that she's still dealing with the aftermath 🎶 I'm all for Putin getting held accountable for his actions, but we need to make sure these kids get the support and care they deserve too 💖

I'm still trying to process how anyone can just take a 17-yr-old girl from her home and send her away without even thinking about it... like she's some kinda human trafficking piece 🤯. And now that Putin is being charged, I hope the people responsible for this are held accountable 💪. But what really gets me is how these kids have had to grow up way too fast, having to live with trauma and fear on a daily basis 😢. We need to keep fighting for their rights and making sure they get the support they need 👊.

This is just devastating 💔. Can you believe what's happening to these innocent kids? 1,900+ children already returned, but Liza's story shows it's far from over... 😱 Putin needs to be held accountable for his actions! It's not just Russia he should face charges from, international community needs to step in too 🌎. Music is an amazing way for her and the other girls to express themselves and fight back against this trauma 🎶💖 we need more voices like Liza's standing up for what's right 💪
