Snow Mice! review – Christmassy critters play hide and squeak in winter wonderland

"Snow Mice!" Delights Audiences with Whimsical Tale of Friendship and Wonder.

The Egg theatre has long made a tradition of festive plays featuring inquisitive animals, but none have captured the hearts of audiences quite like "Snow Mouse," a charming adaptation aimed at slightly older children. The show, now in its new hourlong iteration, follows three siblings who relocate to the countryside after an unspoken reason for their move is revealed.

Upon arrival, they are befriended by three town mice who encourage them to explore and find wonder in their surroundings. This unlikely trio forms a bond that teaches the children valuable lessons about teamwork, cooperation, and embracing their new environment. The show's tone is skillfully balanced between whimsy and poignancy, never resorting to didacticism or overly sentimental moments.

One of the standout aspects of "Snow Mice!" is its clever use of puppetry, designed by Marc Parrett based on Edwina Bridgeman's original concept. The puppets are intricately brought to life through a combination of skilled performances and Greg Hall's enchanting musical score, which expertly weaves mystery and mischief.

The show's direction, devised by Alex Byrne, Kate Cross, and Georgia Casimir, is tightly paced and engaging, with the cast demonstrating impressive improvisational skills when interacting with the audience. The theatre's intimate setting allows for an immersive experience, where every seat has a front-row view of the charming puppet characters.

A notable highlight of "Snow Mice!" is its clever parallels to beloved children's stories, such as C.S. Lewis' The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. This adaptation stands out for its originality and charm, cementing its place as a festive franchise in its own right.

Ultimately, "Snow Mice!" is a delightful winter wonderland of a show that will captivate audiences of all ages with its timeless tale of friendship, exploration, and the magic of childhood.

omg this snow mice show sounds sooo good 🎨🐭 i loved how they made it from the egg theatre crew, those puppetry skills are fire 🔥 and the way it balances whimsy & poignancy is perfection 💖 can't wait to get tickets for this one! 👍

🎭 Just saw Snow Mouse! 🌟 The puppets were so cute, I was literally mesmerized by them 😍. And the story was so beautiful, it made me feel like a kid again ❤️. I loved how they didn't make it too sappy or preachy, just let the magic of childhood shine through ✨. Definitely worth watching with kids (or without 😉).

I went to see this play and I gotta say, it's SO CUTE 🐭🎅️! The puppetry is insane, those little mice are so lifelike! And the way they balance whimsy with poignancy is just perfect, it's like they're speaking straight to your heart. I loved how the show isn't too preachy or anything, it just lets you feel the emotions. And can we talk about that soundtrack? It's like a winter wonderland in itself 🎶🌨️! The way they drew inspiration from C.S. Lewis' books is genius, it's like a whole new world opened up. I think what really stood out to me was how relatable it was for adults too, not just kids. It's one of those shows that'll make you feel all the feels and want to go back for more 🎥👏!

I just watched this super cute play called Snow Mouse! 🐭❄️ It's so heartwarming to see how these three siblings form a bond with these adorable mice in the countryside 🌳🏠 They teach each other all about teamwork & cooperation, and it's so inspiring 💕. The puppetry is also wow! 🤩 Marc Parrett did an amazing job bringing those puppets to life 👍 And the music? Totally magical ✨ Greg Hall's score is like nothing you've ever heard before 🎵 I loved how the show balanced being whimsical with being poignant 🌟 It's perfect for families with kids, and even grown-ups would love it too 😊

I'm totally on board with this new hourlong iteration of "Snow Mouse" 🎭🐭! The way it balances whimsy and poignancy is pure magic ✨. I love how it encourages kids to explore and find wonder in their surroundings - who doesn't need a little reminder to do that, right? 😊

The puppetry is insane, Marc Parrett's designs are so intricate and well done 🤯! And Greg Hall's score is literally enchanting - it perfectly captures the tone of the show. I'm also impressed by how the cast can improvise with the audience, creates this super immersive experience 🎶.

What I'm not totally sold on is how closely it follows some of our favorite childhood stories...I mean, while it's great that they're paying homage to C.S. Lewis' work, it feels like they're borrowing a bit too much from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe ⚠️? Still, overall "Snow Mice!" is an absolute delight, especially for younger kids 🎄.

I JUST SAW THIS SHOW WITH MY KIDS AND WE ALL LOVED IT!!! THE PUPPETS WERE SO CUTE AND CHARMING 🐭😍 I LOVE HOW THEY BALANCED WHIMSY AND POIGNANCY IN THE STORY, IT MADE ME LAUGH AND CRY AT THE SAME TIME! THE CAST IS SO TALENTED AND ENCHANTING, WE COULDN'T STOP SMILING DURING THE SHOW!!! I'M EXCITED TO WATCH THIS AGAIN WITH MY KIDS AND RECOMMEND IT TO ALL PARENTS WITH KIDDOS 🎄🎅

I'm loving how they're making theatre for kids more engaging with puppetry and interactive elements 🤩! The way it weaves in those C.S. Lewis vibes without being too obvious is genius 🔮. I've had a chance to chat with some behind-the-scenes folks, and apparently, the cast has been doing improv sessions just to keep things fresh and spontaneous on stage 💥. It's clear they're going all out to create an immersive experience that'll leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside ❤️. And let's be real, who wouldn't want a show about adorable town mice and their new friends to brighten up the winter season? ❄️

🎭 just watched snow mice! 🐭 i gotta say, i was skeptical at first but it really grew on me 🤔 they did an amazing job with the puppets, it's like they came to life right in front of me 💥 and the music is catchy too 🎵 i loved how it wasn't too cheesy or sappy, just a perfect balance of whimsy and heart ❤️

omg yaaas I'm so here for Snow Mice! 🐭❄️ it's like, totally perfect for this time of year right? I love how they made it an hourlong show now, gives you plenty of time to get invested in those adorable puppets 😍. and can we talk about the parallels to C.S. Lewis' The Lion and the Wardrobe? genius! 👏 i mean, who wouldn't want a magical winter wonderland adventure with some cute mice friends 🎄🐭. the show's tone is so spot on too, it's not too sappy or preachy, just pure whimsy and wonder ✨. I'm defo adding this to my festive play list ASAP 📚!

I mean I love the whole whimsical thing about it 🐭💫 but honestly what's up with the ticket prices? £40+ for an hourlong play is just crazy! I get that it's a theatre show and all, but come on, I can watch a movie for half that price 🎥. And also, I'm kinda surprised they're still using old puppetry tricks from 10 years ago 🤖💔. Can't they afford to update the special effects? And what's with the awkward musical interludes? Sometimes it felt like we were stuck in a never-ending elevator song 🕰️😴.
