Street Beet brings plant-based diner fare and arcade games to Detroit’s Corktown - Detroit Metro Times

Street Beet, a Plant-Based Pop-Up Turned Brick-and-Mortar, Opens in Detroit's Corktown

A beloved plant-based pop-up with a cult following has finally put down roots in Detroit's vibrant Corktown neighborhood. Street Beet, founded by Meghan Shaw, is now open for business at 1800 Michigan Avenue, marking the grand opening of its first permanent restaurant.

The celebration kicks off on Thursday, December 11th, from 4 pm to 11 pm, and promises to be an unforgettable experience. For foodies, Street Beet's menu features vegan takes on classic American comfort food, including meatless coney dogs, smashburgers, chicken sandwiches, and nachos, as well as milkshakes, malts, and deliciously crafted mocktails.

Guests can dine in for full service or order carryout from a convenient walk-up window. But that's not all - the restaurant also boasts an impressive collection of classic arcade and pinball games courtesy of Offworld Arcade, adding an exciting element to the dining experience.

According to Shaw, "We've dreamed of this space for years," she said in a statement. "Bringing Street Beet home to Corktown feels unreal — this is our biggest leap yet, and we can't wait to feed everyone again." The restaurant plans to introduce a new brunch menu, full-service bar, coffee counter with vegan pastries, and outdoor patio seating in the near future.

Street Beet's journey began in 2018 as a popular pop-up, where it served innovative plant-based versions of fast food favorites. The venture gained traction over the years, eventually growing into a residency at Midtown's Third Street Bar. In recent months, Street Beet announced plans to expand with a new location inside a Birmingham grocery store and multiple suburban locations.

The ambitious restaurateur aims to make Street Beet a household name, reaching people from all backgrounds, neighborhoods, and walks of life. With its commitment to quality food, entertainment, and community engagement, this plant-based eatery is sure to become a staple in Detroit's culinary scene.

🤯 I'm so hyped for this new spot! Street Beet sounds like the ultimate spot for anyone who loves vegan food but doesn't want to sacrifice taste 🤤. The arcade games are a genius move, tbh - it's not every day you get to indulge in a juicy vegan coney dog while smashing some pins 🎮. And can we talk about that outdoor patio seating? It's gonna be the perfect spot for Detroiters to chill and catch up with friends ☀️. I'm also loving the fact that they're committed to community engagement - it's awesome to see businesses supporting each other like this 💕. Shaw's vision is fire, and I'm excited to see what she has in store next 🎉!

omg I'm so hyped for Street Beet to finally open up their brick-and-mortar 🤩!! i've been waiting for this moment for ages since they were just a pop-up 🙌. Meghan Shaw has done an amazing job with her vision, and now Corktown gets to enjoy all that delicious plant-based goodness 24/7 🍴👍. I'm loving the arcade games too, it's gonna be such a fun spot to hang out with friends or family 👫. Can't wait to try their new brunch menu and outdoor patio seating when they launch 🌞😊. Street Beet is definitely going to bring some excitement to Detroit's food scene 💥!

Street Beet pop-up finally became a real thing but now they're gonna make us wait for brunch 🤯 And those plans to expand with multiple suburban locations sound like another bubble waiting to burst, just saying 👀. Still, they've got arcade games and vegan pastries, so I guess that's a win 🎮💖

🤩 OMG, can't believe it! Street Beet is finally open for real! I mean, who wouldn't love a vegan pop-up turned brick-and-mortar with arcade games?! 🎮 It's like the ultimate hangout spot! And Meghan Shaw's vision to bring this plant-based experience to Corktown is, like, so Detroit. The menu looks amazing too, meatless coney dogs? Smashburgers? Yes, please! 🤤 I need to get there ASAP and try all the games and grub. It's gonna be a game-changer for Detroit's food scene. The outdoor patio seating can't come soon enough either! ☀️🍔

Just found out about this new place on Corktown & I'm hyped 🤩! Been following Street Beet for ages online & it's crazy how far they've come 💥. The arcade games? 🎮 that's a whole new level of fun, can't wait to check it out with friends. Food looks amazing too, vegan nachos & milkshakes? yes pls 😋. Detroit is really coming up as a foodie hub and I'm stoked to have some new spots to try!

OMG 🤯 this is so exciting for the Corktown neighborhood! I mean who doesn't love vegan comfort food?! 😍 I'm definitely gonna check it out ASAP they have arcade games too?! 😆 that's just a bonus! I'm glad Meghan Shaw made her dream a reality, can't wait to see what new menu items and stuff they come up with. They better bring the good vibes and create a community feel tho, 'cause that's what makes it special 🎉

🍴💚 I'm so stoked for Street Beet! They've been killing it as a pop-up and now they're taking over the game with their own brick-and-mortar spot in Corktown. The menu sounds amazing - who wouldn't want vegan coney dogs and smashburgers? 🤯 And can we talk about the arcade games? That's just genius. I'm all about supporting local businesses that bring people together, especially when it comes to food that's good for you and your wallet. Meghan Shaw is doing some big things here and I'm hyped to see what's next. Maybe they'll even come to a city near me soon? 🤞

I'm so down for Street Beet opening up shop in Corktown 🤩... but at the same time, I'm not so sure about all these new menu items - meatless coney dogs and smashburgers sound kinda weird 🤔... I mean, can't we just stick to our classic vegan burgers and fries? 😂 Plus, I don't know if an arcade and pinball games are really necessary for a dining experience... it's just too much to handle 😅. On the other hand, I love that they're trying to bring in a more lively atmosphere - the outdoor patio seating and coffee counter with vegan pastries sound like a great combo ☕️... but what if it gets too crowded and noisy? 🤷‍♀️. Overall, I'm excited for Street Beet's grand opening, but I'll probably have to wait and see how things play out 😐.

I gotta disagree with the hype around this new place 🙄. I mean don't get me wrong, a vegan coney dog sounds kinda cool, but have you seen the prices? It's like they're trying to nickel and dime you out of your last dollar 💸. And don't even get me started on the arcade games - it's just gonna be a bunch of nerds playing old video games while you wait for your food 🎮. Give me a break, can't they just serve good ol' fashioned burgers and fries like everyone else?

I'm so stoked for the people of Corktown 🤩! Street Beet is literally bringing the vibes of their pop-up into a brick-and-mortar space, and I'm low-key obsessed with that arcade/pinball combo 🎮💥 It's like they're speaking my language. And I get it, as someone who's tried their stuff on the pop-up circuit - Meghan Shaw and her team know what people want: delicious, plant-based eats that won't break the bank. The fact that they're making a conscious effort to create an inclusive space where everyone can come together (regardless of dietary preferences) is, like, totally on point 🌈 I'm excited to see them shake things up in Detroit's food scene - can't wait to try that new brunch menu 👀

Ugh, another overhyped restaurant opening in an already crowded city... 🤔 Street Beet sounds like just another plant-based spot serving up vegan takes on classic American comfort food. I mean, who gets excited about meatless coney dogs and smashburgers? 🤷‍♀️ And don't even get me started on the arcade games - because what every restaurant needs is a bunch of noisy kids screaming at each other playing Pac-Man. 😂 Plus, I'm not sold on the idea of an outdoor patio seating area in Detroit's notoriously harsh winters. How's that gonna work out? ❄️

idk why ppl r so hyped bout veggie dogz 🤷‍♂️ i mean dont get me wrong, shaw's got skills but its just a dog with some fancy toppings 🌭 meanwhile, i'll take my classic patty mcmuffin from mccoy's anytime 💯

I'm so stoked about this new spot in Corktown! I mean, who doesn't love a good vegan coney dog or smashburger? 🍔🥗 The fact that they're combining plant-based eats with arcade games and pinball is just genius - it's like a total blast from the past. And can we talk about how awesome it is to see Meghan Shaw bringing her passion project to life in such an amazing neighborhood?

I think what really gets me excited, though, is the community aspect of this whole thing. Street Beet seems to be all about creating a welcoming space for everyone, regardless of their background or dietary preferences. And with the plans to introduce a brunch menu and outdoor seating area, I'm pretty sure we're looking at a real game-changer in Detroit's food scene.

One thing that does strike me as kinda cool is how Street Beet is expanding its reach beyond just Corktown - I mean, who wouldn't want to try their vegan versions of classic American comfort food? 🤔 And the fact that they're planning to open multiple suburban locations means that more people are going to get to experience this amazing eatery. All in all, I'm super hyped about Street Beet and can't wait to check it out! 💥

Ugh, they finally did it 🤦‍♀️! I mean, I'm stoked for the new location and all, but can't they just optimize their website instead of opening another brick-and-mortar? 🙄 Like, what if people actually wanted to order online? Street Beet's menu is pretty lit tho, I'll give 'em that... those nachos look insane 🤤. But, why do we need like 5 different ways to order food on their website? It's all just a bunch of extra steps 😩.

omg i'm so stoked for street beet!!! 🤩 they're finally making the move from pop-up to brick-and-mortar and it sounds like it's gonna be SO cool! the arcade games are literally my jam 😆 and vegan comfort food is a total game changer. can't wait to try all the dishes, especially those meatless coney dogs 🌭️ i love that they're trying to make this place feel like a community hub too, with the coffee counter and outdoor patio seating. derrick shaw's dream of feeding everyone again is definitely coming true 💕

OMG 🤩 I'm so stoked for Street Beet! They're like the veggie version of In-N-Out Burger 🍔🥗. I mean, who doesn't love a good vegan coney dog or smashburger? 🤤 And the fact that they have arcade games in there is like, total win 💪. I'm all about trying new restaurants and Street Beet sounds like a real treat. Can't wait to try their milkshakes and mocktails too 😋. They're literally the coolest plant-based spot in Detroit right now! 👍

I'm super stoked to see another awesome spot popping up in Detroit 🤩! Street Beet seems like an absolute gem, and I'm loving the idea of combining delicious vegan eats with some old-school arcade games 😎. It's gonna be so much fun to hang out at this restaurant, whether you're grabbing a quick bite or chillin' for hours playing classic pinball machines. The fact that they're focusing on quality food, entertainment, and community engagement is really admirable 🙌. I'm also hyped about the new brunch menu, full-service bar, and outdoor patio seating - it's gonna be a total game-changer for Corktown!

man oh man 🤯 I'm literally shaking with excitement over here!!! Street Beet finally opens up shop in Corktown and it's like they're bringing the whole vibe of their pop-up into a brick-and-mortar space 🏠💚 Meghan Shaw is a total rockstar for making this happen and I love how she's not just stopping at food, but adding arcade games and pinball too? That's pure genius 🎮👀 And have you seen the menu?! Vegan takes on classic comfort food that sounds like absolute heaven to me 🤤 Meatless coney dogs and smashburgers, oh my god I'm already drooling just thinking about it 🍴💦 And the outdoor patio seating? Come on, who doesn't love a good patio with a view? 😎 This place is gonna be LIT 🔥
