Suicide bombing at Islamabad Shiite mosque kills at least 31 people

At least 31 people were killed and over 130 injured in a devastating suicide bombing at the Imam Bargah Qasr-e-Khadijatul Kubra mosque in Islamabad on Friday. The blast occurred during afternoon prayers, sending shockwaves of chaos through the packed worship hall.

Eyewitnesses describe the scene as "apocalyptic", with bloodied bodies strewn across the carpeted floor amidst shattered glass and debris. Panic-stricken worshippers are seen fleeing the area, while others lay motionless on the ground.

According to officials, the death toll was expected to rise further, but an initial assessment had confirmed 31 fatalities. The victims were rushed to nearby hospitals, including the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, where dozens were treated for their injuries.

A police source revealed that a suicide attacker was responsible for the blast, which they claimed detonated after being stopped at the mosque gate. "The attacker was stopped and detonated himself," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his deep condolences to those affected, but the attack has sparked fears that sectarian tensions may simmer just below the surface in the country.

Shiites, who are a minority in Pakistan, have faced repeated targeting by Sunni Islamist militant groups, including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. The group has been designated as a terrorist organization for its violent attacks against minority communities.

man that's like such a horrific scene πŸ€• u can imagine the fear & panic on those people's faces 😱 when they saw the attacker get stopped at the gate & then just blow himself up πŸ’₯ it's so sad that pakistan has to deal with this kinda thing all the time & innocent lives are lost in these attacks πŸ’” my heart goes out to the families of the victims & everyone affected by this πŸ™

just heard about this πŸ˜©πŸ’” such senseless violence is just devastating can't believe ppl would do such things to innocent worshippers like they r just targets for some twisted agenda anyways, it's like the news just kept saying how many people got hurt & died but it feels like a whole lotta numbers to wrap head around btw if u wanna see pictures of the aftermath, i found this article with vids πŸ“° https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-60317771

omg what's happening in pakistan?? this is just too much 31 people dead and over 130 injured that's like a whole school of kids and teachers!!! i can only imagine the fear and chaos those ppl must be feeling right now πŸ€•πŸ’” it's heartbreaking to see innocent lives lost like this. we gotta hope the pakistani government takes swift action against these militant groups and keeps everyone safe. this attack is not just an attack on muslims but also a threat to peace and harmony in the whole country πŸŒŽπŸ’–

😱 This is just heartbreaking. How can a place of worship become a target like this? πŸ€• 31 lives lost and over 130 injured... it's just not right. I keep thinking about the families who lost loved ones, the friends who are left behind with no answers. πŸ’” My heart goes out to everyone affected by this senseless violence. It's just so sad that something like this can happen in a place where people should be able to find peace and solace. πŸ•ŠοΈ

Ugh, can't believe I'm even thinking about this πŸ€•. What's the point of social media when we can't even discuss something like this without being bombarded with misinformation? I mean, who needs fact-checking when people are too quick to spew conspiracy theories?

And don't even get me started on the state of our online forums. They're always so slow to update their content and then suddenly everything's 'breaking news'. I've been seeing some of these posts for hours now and they still haven't made it to my feed.

I'm not here to make any judgments about the attack itself, but can we at least try to be more considerate of each other's feelings when discussing something like this? No need to resort to inflammatory language or spreading false info. Let's focus on supporting those who have been affected and trying to find ways to bring people together, rather than driving them further apart.

I'm getting a bit frustrated just thinking about it 😩. Can we please just try to be more thoughtful and empathetic in our online interactions?

omg this is such a sad day for pakistan πŸ€•πŸ™ the thought of all those people losing their lives in a place where they went to pray and find peace is just devastating 😒 my heart goes out to the families and loved ones of the victims, may they rest in peace πŸ’” i'm also thinking about the community that's been targeted so many times before, it's like they're being hunted 🚫 this attack has to be condemned by everyone, we need to stand together against hate and violence πŸ’ͺ

man what's going on with pakistan they can't catch a break πŸ˜”. a blast like this is devastating on so many levels it's not just about the people who lost their lives but also the trauma that'll stay with those survivors forever πŸ€•. and to think sectarian tensions are still simmering away under the surface...it's like, how many more times do they have to get hurt? πŸ’” i'm actually getting worried for pakistan's future, it feels like they're stuck in this never-ending cycle of violence and fear πŸ•°οΈ. can't they just find peace?! 😩

omg what a great day to be living in pakistan πŸ™„ 31 people dead and over 130 injured and still the gov't is all like "oh no, let's just pretend everything's fine" πŸ’β€β™€οΈ meanwhile the sunni groups are just chillin' on their terrorist orgs, waiting for the next bombing to go off... anyhoo, prayers for the victims πŸ•ŠοΈ

😱 this is so senseless people just wanting to cause harm & death to others... 31 innocent lives lost πŸ™ those who survived will be traumatized forever, can't even imagine the pain & fear they must be going through 😩 Islamabad is a beautiful city with so much love & positivity, how could something like this happen in such a peaceful place?! πŸ€” it's heartbreaking to see our world getting more violent by day... my heart goes out to all the families of the victims πŸ’•

This is a really worrying situation πŸ€•. It's heartbreaking to see so many innocent people caught up in violence like this. The fact that the bomber was stopped and then detonated himself shows just how senseless these acts of terror can be πŸ’₯.

Pakistan is already dealing with a lot of complex issues, and adding this kind of violence to the mix must be really tough for the government and the people 🀝. I'm not sure what more can be done to prevent things like this from happening in the future, but it's clear that more needs to be done to address the underlying tensions between different groups.

It's also worth considering how we can support the victims and their families during this difficult time πŸ’”. Mental health services will be particularly important for those affected by trauma, and I hope that the government is providing adequate support πŸ€—.

πŸ˜”πŸ•ŠοΈ I'm still trying to process this devastating news from Islamabad... 31 lives lost and over 130 injured in such a senseless attack πŸ€•. My heart goes out to the families of the victims, their loved ones, and everyone affected by this tragedy 😭. It's just not fair that we're seeing more and more of these horrific attacks happening in Pakistan and other parts of the world πŸ’”.

I'm also worried about the impact this will have on the already fragile peace situation in the region 🀝. As a community, we need to come together and support each other in times like these ❀️. Let's take a moment to remember the victims and hold their families close to our hearts ❀️. We can't let hate win, but instead, let's spread love, kindness, and compassion throughout our world πŸŒŽπŸ’–

πŸ˜” this is such a senseless tragedy... 31 lives lost, so many more injured... it's heartbreaking to think about the families of those affected struggling to cope with the aftermath. it's especially worrying that this attack might fuel sectarian tensions in pakistan, which have been simmering for years.

i'm also really concerned about how vulnerable worship spaces are to these kinds of attacks - they're meant to be places of peace and solace, not bomb targets. the fact that a suicide bomber was able to get close enough to detonate is just appalling.

anyway, my thoughts are with the people of pakistan and the victims' families right now... πŸ™

I'm shocked that more people weren't killed in this attack... I mean, it's not like the Imam Bargah Qasr-e-Khadijatul Kubra mosque is some kind of impenetrable fortress πŸ€”. The fact that a suicide bomber was able to get close enough to detonate himself at the gate is just unbelievable 😱. And let's be real, 31 people is a pretty low number considering how crowded the place must've been during prayers πŸ™ƒ. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the mosque's security measures (or lack thereof) πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. And yeah, of course, sectarian tensions are on the rise in Pakistan... it's not like they're just a minor issue that can be swept under the rug πŸ‘Ž.

OMG, this is so sad πŸ’”πŸ™... like, I'm literally shaking just thinking about it 😱. My heart goes out to the victims and their families πŸ€—... how can something so innocent turn into such chaos? The thought of people praying for peace and love turned into a deadly attack makes me so angry 😑... I wish the government could do more to protect these places, like, seriously, what's being done?! πŸ€”. I just hope they catch the person responsible and bring them to justice πŸ’ͺ... and also, can we please talk about how Pakistan needs more support for minorities? πŸ™πŸ’• They deserve our love and respect too! 😊

😞 this is so disturbing i just can't even imagine what it's like to be there when that happened... 31 people lost their lives and so many more hurt πŸ€• my heart goes out to the families of those who died. why does this keep happening in pakistan? it seems like every few months, another attack happens somewhere. and now with the sectarian tensions rising, i'm worried about what the future holds for that country... 😩

😱🌎 this is just devastating news... 31 lives lost and over 130 injured. my thoughts are with the families of the victims πŸ’” can't even imagine what they're going through right now. Islamabad is supposed to be a safe city, not a place where violence can happen like this. πŸ€• how many more attacks do we need before Pakistan takes concrete steps to prevent them? 🀝 I'm also thinking about all the Shiites in Pakistan who are already living in fear... when will they feel safe again? πŸ’”πŸŒŸ

man this is really sad πŸ€• the fact that such a tragedy happened at a place of worship is just heartbreaking πŸ˜” i know it's hard to say but i think pakistan needs to work on its security measures instead of pointing fingers at each other the suicide bomber was a coward who took innocent lives, let's not forget that πŸ’” also, 31 people lost their lives, that's just devastating 🀯 i'm all for peace and tolerance, and i believe we can achieve that if we all just try to understand each other's perspectives πŸ™

πŸ˜’ Ugh, another atrocity to deal with... Can't believe it had to happen here in Islamabad 🀯. 31 lives lost over a suicide bombing? It's just so senseless and heart-wrenching 😭. And of course, this is going to spark all sorts of sectarian tensions again 🚨. It's like we're stuck in some kind of never-ending cycle of violence πŸ”„.

And what really gets me is that the attacker was stopped at the gate but still managed to detonate πŸ’£. So much for security measures πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. And now we've got dozens more injured and the death toll is expected to rise... just great πŸ™„. Can't these people catch a break?! πŸ€•
