Suspect in National Guard shooting served alongside U.S. troops in Afghanistan, relative says

The suspect in the National Guard shooting who served alongside U.S. troops in Afghanistan, has been described by his relative as a man of good character, but was targeted by the Taliban while he and other Afghans were living in Khost province during the Taliban takeover.

Five months after then-President Joe Biden announced the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan, Lakanwal arrived in the United States with his family and started working for Amazon and Amazon Flex. The relative stated that they haven't spoken to him in several months, but expressed shock and confusion about the suspect's alleged violent act.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has stated that the suspect was "one of the many unvetted, mass paroled into the United States under Operation Allies Welcome," a directive issued by President Biden to support vulnerable Afghans who worked alongside U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

President Donald Trump has called for re-examining all those who entered the United States from Afghanistan during his administration and stated that he was "determined" that the suspect would face severe consequences.

An Afghan immigrant group, AfghanEvac, has defended their community, saying that immigrants undergo extensive security vetting before resettling in the U.S. However, following this incident, USCIS has announced an indefinite halt on processing immigration requests related to Afghan nationals pending further review of security and vetting protocols.

πŸ˜’ This whole thing just feels like a huge mess. I mean, come on, someone's family says they're a good guy, but we're already jumping to conclusions about his character? πŸ€” And now the US is putting all Afghan immigrants through an indefinite review? That's just gonna give so many people anxiety and uncertainty... it's not fair to them, you know? πŸ˜•

🚨😱 another one... so we got some guy from afghanistan who comes to US as part of some program for people who worked with us troops in afgan... and now he's accused of shooting some ppl at the national guard... but here's the thing, his fam is like "he's a good dude" and they're all shocked about what happened... meanwhile the US gov't is all over it like "oh no what have we done"... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ like what did we expect? people come in with unclear backstories and then they shoot ppl at the national guard... 🚫 meanwhile some ppl are calling for re-examining everyone who came from afgan... i guess that's just how this whole thing works out... πŸ™„

πŸ€” I'm concerned about the ease with which individuals like Lakanwal were able to enter the US despite not undergoing thorough vetting. The fact that he was part of Operation Allies Welcome, a program aimed at supporting vulnerable Afghans, raises questions about how these individuals were assessed for security risks before being resettled in the US. πŸ“Š It seems that the lack of transparency and oversight in this process has led to unintended consequences. We need to have a more nuanced discussion about our refugee resettlement policies and ensure that we're not putting national security at risk. πŸ’‘

Ugh, can you believe what's happening? The guy just wants a fresh start after serving with US troops and now he gets linked to some violent act! πŸ€• I feel so bad for him and his family. I mean, we're talking about someone who's already been through so much, like living under the Taliban in Khost province... that's crazy. Amazon Flex, of all things, where would you even get a job like that? πŸ˜‚ And now the US government is like "oh no, unvetted Afghans" 🚫... it's just not fair. We gotta think about the human side here, right? #JusticeForLakanwal #USImmigrationReform #AfghanRefugeesMatter

πŸ€• my heart goes out to that Afghani family... I mean think about it they were trying to escape war in their country and make a new life here, and then this happens... πŸŒͺ️ it's so sad that someone with good character like the suspect would be targeted like this. 🚫 we need to talk about why our vetting system failed him and others like him... πŸ€” Operation Allies Welcome was meant to help people, not create more problems... πŸ’― I'm all for re-examining security protocols, but also let's not forget that immigrants are human beings deserving of love and respect 😊.

πŸ€” idk how ppl r so quick 2 judge sum1 like that. sounds 2 me like the guy had a pretty rough start in life, growin up under the taliban & servin with u.s troops in afghanistan. didnt he rite? πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ he's got a fam, good character & all dat, but still gets shot by his own countrymen. feels like americans should b more understanding about what ppl go thru when comin here

I feel so bad for this guy, Lakanwal... his story is just heartbreaking πŸ€•. I mean, he's a good person from a war-torn country who's trying to rebuild his life here. He's been working hard at Amazon Flex, just trying to provide for his family... and then this happens? It's just crazy 🀯.

I think it's great that people are calling out the fact that he wasn't vetted properly, but I also feel like we need to be careful not to make assumptions about a whole community. We've all heard stories of how difficult it is for refugees to adjust to a new life, and it sounds like Lakanwal was just trying to do that.

I wish people could see the bigger picture here... we're talking about human lives, families, and communities. It's not just about one person or one incident... 🀝

I dont get it πŸ˜’. So we're supposed to believe that a guy who was just chillin' with his fam in the US is all of a sudden a mass murderer? 🀯 I mean, I'm sure he had some issues, but come on... 5 months ago he's working for Amazon and everything seems fine... this just doesn't add up. πŸ€” And now we're gonna punish everyone who came over from Afghanistan under the Operation Allies Welcome program? That's like punishing the innocent people who got caught in the crossfire of war. 🚫 It makes no sense to me... πŸ™„

Ugh I'm literally shaking with rage right now 🀯πŸ”₯! Like what even is going on here?! This guy's relative is still trying to defend him, saying he's a good person, but we're all living in the real world where bad things happen? And to make matters worse, this guy was part of Operation Allies Welcome and just waltzed into America without any issues πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ! It's like, what are we even doing here?! We're supposed to be a country that welcomes people with open arms, but nope, we're more concerned about vetting people than actually doing it properly πŸ’”!

And don't even get me started on President Trump wanting to re-examine all those Afghan immigrants under his watch πŸ™„! Like, what are you going to do, just send them all back to Afghanistan? That's not a solution, that's just more drama. And USCIS is like "oh no, we're just gonna pause everything for now" πŸ’₯... it's like they're just giving up 😩.

It's all so messed up and frustrating 🀯. I need some answers here! Why can't we trust these people? We know more about the guy than he knows himself, but still we doubted him. It's all so messed up 🚫

πŸ˜• this is so messed up... I mean, the guy's got a good rep from his family, but we're still dealing with all these unanswered questions about how he slipped through the vetting process πŸ€”. It just doesn't add up, you know? And what's really concerning me is that now immigrants are being unfairly targeted because of one individual's actions... I'm all for security measures, but let's not throw out the baby with the bathwater here 🚿. The Afghan community deserves our support and understanding, not fear and suspicion 😊. Can't we just have a more nuanced conversation about this stuff? πŸ€—

My heart goes out to this guy's family right now πŸ˜”. I mean, can you even imagine having your loved one's good character questioned like that? It's just so unfair πŸ€•. And to think he was just trying to start a new life with his family after everything they went through in Afghanistan... it's just heartbreaking πŸ’”.

I'm also feeling really frustrated with the whole situation 🀬. I mean, Operation Allies Welcome sounded like a great idea on paper, but if it's not working out as planned then we need to take a closer look at what's going wrong here πŸ“Š. And yeah, President Trump's comments don't exactly fill me with confidence either πŸ˜’.

But let's not forget that this is still just one guy and his family who are getting caught up in all this drama πŸ’”. Let's try to stay empathetic and understanding, rather than jumping to conclusions or pointing fingers 🀝. We need to figure out what we can do to support them during this tough time ❀️.

Ugh, I'm so confused about this whole thing πŸ€”... like, if he's a good person according to his relative, then why did the Taliban target him when they took over Afghanistan? Wasn't he just living in Khost province with his family and stuff? πŸ˜•... on the other hand, if Homeland Security says he was one of those "unvetted" folks who got paroled into the US, doesn't that mean he's not as trustworthy? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ I guess we'll never know for sure what really happened. It's all so frustrating! 😑... and can someone explain why President Trump is suddenly looking to re-examine everyone who came from Afghanistan during his admin? Like, isn't that just gonna create more problems? πŸ™„
