Tacita Dean on witnessing Ceal Floyer's final work of art: 'She gave death the middle finger'

Ugh, I'm still trying to wrap my head around this final act by Ceal Floyer 🤯. Giving death the middle finger in a hospital bed is like, so not subtle 😂. I mean, I get it, she was bold, but was it necessary? 🤔. And what's with the crucifix? Was that just some art-y thing to add drama or something? 💀. Don't get me wrong, her courage and defiance are super inspiring, but can't we just have a quiet, peaceful death for once? 😴. I'm just saying, as an artist who was all about pushing boundaries, maybe this one boundary is a bit too far for me 🙅‍♀️.

omg I'm literally shook 😲 by this last statement from Ceal Floyer! giving death the middle finger is like, so bold 🤯 and defiant... it's like she was saying "i've lived my life on my terms and i won't let anyone take that away" 💁‍♀️. it's crazy to think about her surgeon being so moved by her art too 🤝 it just goes to show how powerful and meaningful her work is. Floyer's legacy will live on for sure 💕, inspiring others to be brave and unapologetic in their own creative expression 🎨💖
