Take That review – could it be TV magic? Yes!

Take That's 2024 Stadium Tour: A Retrospective Reheated to Perfection

Gary Barlow OBE's incredulous expression was a stark contrast to Howard Donald's candid admission that he doesn't like cauliflower cheese. The remark, while innocuous, served as a harbinger for the three-part documentary series about the veteran boyband Take That, which delves into their 35-year journey.

The film is more than just a straightforward retelling of the band's story; it is a nuanced exploration of their experiences, struggles, and triumphs. With director David "Bros: After the Screaming Stops" Soutar at the helm, the series offers an unembittered look back on Take That's rise to fame, including their bewildering early performances in gay clubs and their eventual comeback.

New, off-screen interviews with Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, and Howard Donald provide a wealth of candid insights into the band's dynamics and individual personalities. The documentary also features extensive archive footage, much of it previously unseen, showcasing the band's evolution over the years.

One notable aspect of the series is its ability to balance nostalgia with an air of detachment. The filmmakers acknowledge that their subject matter may seem somewhat nostalgic, but they have skillfully woven this perspective into a broader narrative that explores the complexities and challenges of success.

Throughout the three episodes, Take That (the documentary) presents a refreshingly honest portrayal of the band's experiences, tackling themes such as fame, anxiety, and camaraderie. The series is not without its criticisms, however, with some viewers potentially finding it too laid-back or lacking in depth.

Ultimately, Take That (the documentary) offers an endearing and engaging look at one of the most iconic boybands of all time. With its thoughtful direction and extensive archive footage, the series provides a captivating exploration of Take That's remarkable journey, leaving viewers with a newfound appreciation for this often-overlooked chapter in pop history.

🙄 I mean, who doesn't love a good ol' fashioned boyband docu-series? 35 years of taking it easy and belting out power ballads... sounds like my wildest dreams 😴. But seriously, I'm kinda intrigued by this docu-series. It's nice to see them tackle some real issues like fame anxiety and camaraderie. And, let's be real, who doesn't love a good archive footage fest 📹. The only thing that's got me rolling my eyes is how laid-back the whole thing seems... I mean, come on guys, you're Take That - can't you bring the drama? 😒

I'm not sure if I'd call it 'perfectly' reheated, but that documentary series on Take That is defo worth checking out 🤔. As someone who grew up listening to their songs, it's cool to see how they've evolved over the years and the challenges they faced along the way. The fact that it's not just a straightforward retelling of their story, but also explores their personal dynamics and struggles, is what makes it interesting. I mean, we've all been there with anxiety and fame, right? But at the same time, some people might find it too laid-back or lacking in depth 🤷‍♂️. Still, it's a great look at pop history and I appreciate how they balance nostalgia with a more critical eye 👍

I'm loving how this docu-series is giving us an inside look at Take That's 35-year journey without shying away from their struggles and complexities 🤯. It's so refreshing to see them being portrayed as more than just a nostalgic boyband - they're actual people with real emotions and experiences 💖. The way the filmmakers balanced nostalgia with detachment was super clever, IMHO 🔍. I'm also loving how it highlights the importance of camaraderie in their success... those guys have been through SO much together 🤝. Now, if only we could get a similar docu on another iconic boyband to give us some nostalgia overload 😂🎉!

idk why ppl r so hyped about take that's docu. they were just a bunch of youngins makin music & performin for pennies 🤑. their rise to fame was pretty gradual & not exactly groundbreaking. also, the fact that they only kinda address anxiety & camaraderie in the docu feels like they're tryna be all 'oh we're so deep' lol. can't help but feel it's a bit too sanitized tho 🤷‍♂️

I'm not sure why I need to rewatch Take That's whole discography after watching this docu-series 🤔. It feels like they've distilled the essence of their 35-year journey into these three episodes, and it's honestly really refreshing to see them talk about their struggles with anxiety and whatnot in a way that's not too sappy or cliché. I also love how the filmmakers have woven together old footage with new interviews – it's like getting a masterclass on Take That's evolution as a band 🎥. Now, I'm curious if they'll make more docu-series about other classic boybands... 👀

idk why they're revisiting take that like it matters anymore 🤔. been around since '95 and all we got is nostalgia tours now 😒. don't get me wrong tho, the documentary sounds alright, at least they're showin' some behind-the-scenes footage i forgot existed 📺. gotta respect the guys for makin' a comeback after all those years, that takes guts 💪. but it's just so... familiar 🎵. like we've seen it all before 👀. still, if it's gonna be a good doc, i'm down to watch it 😊.

OMG I'm so hyped about this new docu on Take That 🤩! They're really getting into the nitty-gritty of their 35-year career, and it's so refreshing to see them being honest about their struggles with fame and anxiety 💔. The archival footage is insane – I loved seeing all these unseen clips from their early days 📹. And can we talk about how amazing it is that they're not sugarcoating anything? They're keeping it real, even when it gets a little laid-back 😂. I do think some viewers might find it too chill, but honestly, that's part of its charm, right? It's like getting a comfy hug from an old friend 😊. The way the filmmakers balanced nostalgia with detachment was super clever, and I love how they're giving fans a chance to reconnect with Take That on a deeper level 💕.

"Life begins at the end of your comfort zone." - Neale Donald Walsch 😊 I think what draws me to this documentary is that it doesn't shy away from showcasing Take That's imperfections, but instead chooses to explore their struggles and vulnerabilities as part of their story. It's refreshing to see a documentary that presents a more realistic and nuanced portrayal of success and fame.

Ugh I'm literally so excited about this docu series on Take That!!! 🤩 They were always my fave band growing up and now we get to see the real story behind their rise to fame...it's like, who knew they came from gay clubs?! 🤪 The way they balance nostalgia with a more critical look at their experiences is so refreshing. I love how it explores the struggles of success and what that means for your relationships and mental health too. It's not just some cheesy trip down memory lane, but a deeper dive into what makes them tick. Can't wait to binge this! 📺

🎵 I loved seeing those guys looking so relaxed and happy on screen 🤗, it was like watching old mates having a laugh! But for real tho, the documentary felt super nostalgic but at the same time didn't get too carried away with all that sappy feels 💔 - it actually delved into some deeper stuff like anxiety and whatnot. Not sure about the criticism of it being laid-back tho 🤷‍♂️, I thought it was all right - maybe because I'm a sucker for underdog stories 🌟? Either way, can't wait to watch it! 👍

🤔 I'm totally obsessed with how they've structured the documentary series! It's like they're serving up a perfectly balanced plate of nostalgia and honesty – not too much of one or the other. The way they weave together new interviews, archive footage, and behind-the-scenes moments is pure gold 🌟. And I love how it's not just a straightforward retelling of their story, but an actual exploration of what makes Take That tick. The fact that they're not afraid to delve into the complexities of success and fame is really refreshing. But what I think takes it to the next level is the way they balance nostalgia with an air of detachment – it's like they're saying, "Hey, we know this is nostalgic, but let's also explore the real stuff." 👏

The way they balanced nostalgia with depth was perfect - it's like watching an old friend come back into your life 😊. I loved how the filmmakers kept it real, showing both the highs and lows of being in one of the biggest boybands ever. Gary, Mark, and Howard were so candid and honest - it felt like we were all just chillin' with them 🤗. Definitely a must-watch for any 90s kid or pop music fan! 👍

The documentary series on Take That is really well done 🤩. I think it's great that they're able to balance nostalgia and detachment, it makes the whole thing feel more nuanced and realistic. The way they explore the complexities of success and fame is also super insightful. I did find some parts a bit laid-back, but overall I think it's a really enjoyable watch 📺. What I love about this series is that it humanizes the guys from Take That, you get to see them as individuals with their own struggles and personalities. It's not just your typical 'boyband' narrative, which I think is really refreshing 👍
