Taye Diggs Is Hollywood’s Newest Vertical Drama Star, Playing a Man Romancing His Best Friend’s Daughter in CandyJar Original (EXCLUSIVE)

Taye Diggs is set to take center stage in Hollywood's vertical drama scene with his latest role as a widower who takes in his best friend's rebellious daughter in "Off Limits & All Mine," a romance series that he'll star in and executive produce.

The project, which marks the first foray of an A-lister into this growing genre, boasts lower production costs compared to traditional TV or film productions. With vertical dramas raking in billions of dollars in other countries, particularly Asia, CandyJar hopes Diggs' involvement will elevate the format's prestige and attract more high-profile talent.

"Off Limits & All Mine" follows a complex romantic connection between the widower and his best friend's daughter as they navigate their feelings for each other. The series boasts an all-black ensemble cast, with CandyJar aiming to center Black-led romantic dramas in the burgeoning microdrama industry.

Production on the series is set to begin in Atlanta in February, with J. Carter leading as producer, Troy Brookins executive producing, and Alexandria Collins directing. Founded in 2013, Inkitt has become a successful platform using AI to identify potential stories for franchising, while CandyJar averages over 70 million episodes streamed per month.

According to Lily Darragh Harty, Inkitt's director of production, "Microdramas are no longer experimental." The success of projects like "Off Limits & All Mine" showcases that the format can support high production standards and top-tier talent, aligning with CandyJar's ambitions for the industry.

🤦‍♂️ so Taye Diggs is trading in his Broadway roots for a TV series about a widower and his friend's daughter... yawn 💁‍♀️ I mean, I'm sure it'll be super compelling to watch Taye Diggs' 50th-ish birthday present 🎂 to himself. 🤷‍♂️ on the bright side, it's all-black ensemble cast is a step in the right direction, finally some diversity in this vertical drama scene that's been stuck in a rut since the early 2000s 😐

I think its awesome Taye Diggs is getting into this vertical drama scene... he's a talented actor who's been in the game for years 😊. Its cool to see him stepping out of his comfort zone and trying something new. And I gotta say, an all-black ensemble cast is super refreshing 🙌. The fact that they're creating more spaces for Black-led romantic dramas is really important. Its also fascinating to think about how AI can help identify stories that people want to watch... it's like technology is helping us create better content 💻. I'm excited to see this project come together and how it can elevate the prestige of vertical dramas 🎥

🎬 It looks like Taye Diggs is about to take his talents to a whole new level, and I think he's gonna crush it! 💪 The fact that vertical dramas are raking in big bucks overseas and this one has an all-black ensemble cast makes me super excited for its release. Plus, who wouldn't want to see more Black-led romantic dramas on the small screen? 🙌 It's about time we get to see some real representation on TV! 💁‍♀️

omg i'm low-key hyped for Taye Diggs' new project! vertical dramas are like, so underrated 🤩 they already raking in billions in asia, imagine what they can do if A-listers get involved 🤑 it's dope that Inkitt is using AI to identify potential stories and CandyJar's all about centering black-led romantic dramas, I'm here for it 💖 the cast sounds like a dream team too! J. Carter, Troy Brookins, and Alexandria Collins are all producing/executing-directing... what more could we ask for? 🤯 February in Atlanta can't come soon enough!

idk why ppl rnt hype about Taye Diggs taking on a new project 🤔. he's been in this game 4 ages but i guess its good 2 c him try his hand at vertical dramas 📺. the fact that its lower cost productions might attract more big names is def a win for the industry 💸. but what im curious bout is how they plan 2 make it feel like a real, emotional rollercoaster w/o sacrificing production values 🎬. hope its done justice to the format 😐

I'm so over how fast everything changes in Hollywood 🙄. Remember when dramas used to be all about character development and slow burns? Now it's all about these vertical dramas that are like 10 episodes long 🤯. I mean, don't get me wrong, Taye Diggs is a great actor and "Off Limits & All Mine" sounds intriguing, but what happened to good old-fashioned storytelling? It's just not the same as when we used to watch shows like "Gilmore Girls" or "The O.C." back in the day 📺. And can we talk about how expensive these vertical dramas are now compared to the '90s and early 2000s? My grandma used to rent VHS tapes for like $5, and now you're talking billions of dollars 💸. I guess it's just progress, but sometimes I wish we could go back to when TV was more chill 😎.
