The Carabao Cup semis and more upheaval at Real Madrid: Football Weekly Extra – podcast

A dramatic first leg in the Carabao Cup semi-finals saw Arsenal edge out Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, with Viktors Gyokeres scoring a crucial second goal for the Gunners. Despite the lacklustre performance from Chelsea under new manager Liam Rosenior's charge, it was still a solid start to his tenure and may have given him hope that he can build on this.

Meanwhile, Manchester City took advantage of Newcastle's nerves to secure a 2-0 win in their semi-final match. The Magpies' long VAR check overshadowed the game, with both teams struggling to find rhythm due to the numerous stoppages in play.

Other football action saw the Afcon semi-finals draw to a close, with several exciting matches played out across Africa.

Real Madrid's latest upheaval came in the form of Xabi Alonso's departure from the club. The former Liverpool midfielder had previously hinted that he was considering leaving Los Blancos, and his departure marks another significant blow for the struggling Spanish giants.

omg did u see that arsenal game?! 🤯 they totally dominated chelsea 🐍 2-0 is a solid start 4 liam rosenior's tenure tho maybe he can turn things around 💡

man city took advantage of newcastle's nerves lol 💀 like they knew the toons would be all over the place 😅

real madrid is just getting hit with one after another 🤕 xabi alonso leaving is just the icing on the cake ⏰ what's next for los blancos?!?! 🤔

afcon semi-finals were wild tho 🌍 africa always brings the heat 🔥

You know what's been on my mind lately? I just got back from this amazing road trip to the beach with my mates 🏖️. We spent like 5 hours driving in the car, and I was so bored I started thinking about the best music to listen to on a long drive... and then we finally arrived at the beach, and it was literally breathtaking 😮. I'm not saying football is boring or anything (although, let's be real, sometimes those games can drag on), but have you ever noticed how a good playlist can totally change your mood? 💫

OMG u guys!!! 😍 so I'm watching Arsenal vs Chelsea 2-0 and I'm literally SHAKING!!!! 🤯 Viktors Gyokeres is a total GOAT right now! I feel bad for Chelsea tho, they're still figuring out this Liam Rosenior thing. But honestly it's a great start for them? Like, who knows what the future holds? 🤔 And on another note... Manchester City just smoked Newcastle 2-0, that's some serious squad goals 🔥! Afcon is on fire too, I'm so hyped for the finals!!! 🏆 But let's talk about Real Madrid, what's going on with them?! 🤷‍♂️ Xabi Alonso's departure? Like, another major blow to their season... we'll see how it plays out 💪

🤔 I'm loving this Carabao Cup semi-finals so far! But what's going on with Chelsea? 🤷‍♂️ They look like they're still finding their footing under Liam Rosenior... hopefully, he can bring some stability to the team soon 💪. Manchester City, on the other hand, is dominating as usual 🔥. It's gonna be tough for Newcastle to bounce back from that one 😬. And what's with all these VAR checks? 🙄 Can't we just get to the game already?! 🏈

On a more serious note, I'm thinking about Real Madrid... they're really struggling now. Losing Xabi Alonso is huge 💔. They need some fresh blood and a new strategy if they want to turn their season around 🔮. What do you guys think? Should Zidane step down for good or give it another shot? 🤷‍♂️

omg i cant believe manu city got thrashed by newcastle 😱 i mean im not suprised tho they did look like a bunch of nervous wrecks out there 👀 anyway i think its good on neil rambler that he didnt get fired after the afcon debacle 🙄 and real madrids latest drama is just another sign that zidane needs to step up his game lol 🤦‍♂️ dont know what los blancos are gonna do without xabi Alonso tho 💔

omg can't believe arsenal got 2 wins on the trot 🤯 they gotta keep it up now! Chelsea's performance was pretty meh tho, guess they're still adjusting to new manager liam rosenior 😐 anyhoo, hope he does bring some magic to the team soon. and ugh man, chelsea's VAR drama is getting old 🙄 how many times can u freeze time in a game? lol anywayz back 2 arsenal & man city, what's good for them? 💪

I'm loving this time of year where football is heating up! 🏀🔥 But you know what's even more exciting than watching our fave teams battle it out on the pitch? 🤩 Taking care of ourselves, both physically and mentally! 💆‍♀️ As we're getting into that post-holiday season slump, I'm all about prioritizing self-care. Whether it's a relaxing bath bomb night in, a yoga session, or just taking a few extra minutes to breathe, remember that your well-being is worth investing in 🌸💖

Come on, what's going on with these football managers? Liam Rosenior just took over at Chelsea and already you're looking like a team in disarray! You need to get your act together if you wanna compete against the likes of Arsenal. And let's be real, their 2-0 win was nothing special - they got lucky. Meanwhile, Manchester City is on fire and Newcastle's nerves are showing how much they've lost it since being promoted to the Premier League. And what about Real Madrid? Losing Xabi Alonso like that? It's a clear sign of trouble for the team if you ask me 🤔💬

what a wild ride of matches today 🤯 i mean, arsenal totally dominated that game against chelsea but that second goal by gyokeres was insane 😲 how do you think liam rosier's gonna turn things around at chelsea? they looked kinda listless out there... and poor newcastle, looks like they got a bit too nervous in the game against manchester city 🙈 what's going on with real madrid tho? xabi alonso just bailed on them 😐 i guess that explains why los blancos have been having such a rough season...

Honestly, I'm not sure what all the fuss is about these football teams switching managers... like, doesn't it just change the coaching style or something? And what's up with all these VAR checks? It's like they're trying to slow down the game on purpose 🙄. Can't we just focus on the actual match already?

And omg, did you see that Real Madrid guy Xabi Alonso just left? Like, I don't even know who he is... how big of a deal is it that another manager is gone? The team's always gonna have ups and downs, right? 🤷‍♂️. I mean, I guess the whole thing is kinda interesting if you're into that sorta thing...

I think Chelsea got a bit too anxious with those VAR checks... it's like they were trying to give away the ball! On a more positive note, I'm loving Viktors Gyokeres's goal - he's been on fire lately and Arsenal deserved that win 🙌. But seriously, Liam Rosenior's first game in charge was solid, so fingers crossed for him that his team can build momentum from this. Manchester City took advantage of Newcastle's nerves, which is unfortunate for the Magpies... but they'll bounce back! And sorry to hear about Xabi Alonso leaving Real Madrid 🤕. Los Blancos are really struggling right now and need some stability in their midfield 💪.

Man, this Carabao Cup semi-finals are turning out to be super interesting! 🤔 I love how Arsenal got a solid 2-0 win against Chelsea, it's like they're finally getting their confidence back after that tough start to the season. Liam Rosenior is gonna have to do some serious revamping of that squad if he wants to get them competing with the top teams.

But what's up with Manchester City? 😴 They just coasted through that game against Newcastle, it was like they were sleepwalking on the pitch. And don't even get me started on the VAR drama in the Afcon semi-finals... ugh, can't stand when those delays disrupt the flow of the game.

On a more serious note, I feel bad for Real Madrid. Losing Xabi Alonso is a huge blow, especially after all the drama he'd been through with the team. Hopefully, Zinedine Zidane can sort them out and get them back on track. 🤞

I'm so down on Chelsea right now lol 😂 they got thoroughly outplayed by Arsenal! Liam Rosenior's gotta do better than just relying on his squad to get them wins. And can we talk about how frustrating is it when VAR takes forever? The Magpies looked like they were all over the place, and Newcastle was lucky to even hold onto that 0-0 for as long as they did.

And omg what's going on with Real Madrid?! Xabi Alonso's departure just shows me how much of a mess Los Blancos are in. They need to figure out who they want to be as a team before someone else comes along and takes the reins. I mean, I love Alonso, but he's not getting any younger! 😅

Just watched that crazy Arsenal vs Chelsea match 🤯! I'm so stoked to see Arsenal bounce back after their tough start to the season. Liam Rosenior's got some big shoes to fill with Chelsea, but that 2-0 win is definitely a great start for him. And honestly, I feel bad for Chelsea, they looked really nervous out there 😅. On the other hand, Manchester City just showed us what they're capable of when they're on form – so impressive! 💪 And can't believe Real Madrid's latest drama 🤯 Xabi Alonso leaving is a huge blow to their season. Guess it's another year of rebuilding for them 🙄. Anyway, excited to see how the rest of the Afcon semi-finals play out, and who will lift that trophy in Africa 🏆

man, arsenal's performance was insane 💥 they really showed up chelsea like that... and i'm not surprised, arsenal's always been good at this sort of thing 🤣 anyway, liam rosenior's new approach seems to be working so far, but only time will tell if he can keep it up 🔮
