The man taking over the Large Hadron Collider – only to switch it off

🤔 I gotta say, this new LHC upgrade is a big deal 🚀! As an oldie but goodie, I've seen my fair share of scientific breakthroughs and I gotta respect Thomson's enthusiasm. 5 years might seem like a long time, but trust me, the research they'll be doing in that time will be worth it. It's not just about the money, it's about pushing the boundaries of human understanding 🌟.

I'm also intrigued by the Future Circular Collider (FCC) project 🤔. $15 billion is a lot of cash, but if it means we get closer to unlocking some of life's biggest mysteries 💡, then I say go for it! The risks are there, but Thomson's right that we can't stop making discoveries just because things get tough.

You know what they say: "you can't improve something without taking a risk" 🤷‍♂️. And Thomson seems like the kind of guy who's up for that challenge 😄. Fingers crossed he makes the most of this opportunity! 👍
 
I'm kinda stoked that Cern is getting a new director general, but I gotta ask, what's the holdup on the LHC upgrade? They're shutting it down for 5 whole years? That's a lotta lost data 🤔. I get that they want to make it ten times more powerful and all, but can't we just fix the current collider instead of building an entirely new one? The thought of spending $15 billion on some futuristic collider is wild 🤑. Mark Thomson seems pretty sure it'll be worth it, but what about all the scientists who are stuck in limbo while this thing gets built? Is it really necessary to push the boundaries of science at all costs?
 
🤔 I'm kinda surprised they're shutting down the LHC already, I mean it's still running well and giving us tons of data 📊. I get that upgrading it to make it ten times more powerful sounds awesome 💥, but what about all the discoveries we've made with it so far? It feels like they're trading progress for some new super collider 🔁. Don't get me wrong, the high-luminosity LHC project sounds promising 🎯, but $15 billion is a wild sum of money 💸. I guess only time will tell if it's worth the investment 🕰️.
