The UK wants to emulate Denmark's hardline asylum model – but what does it actually look like?

🤔 I think Denmark's approach is like, you know when politicians promise you the world but then make it a 2-year trial period to see if you're "good enough". It's like they're saying, "Hey, we'll let you in, but only if you prove yourself worthy". 🚫 Temporary residence permits can be a tough pill to swallow for asylum seekers. And what about those who don't speak Danish or have a job? Do they just get left behind? 🤷‍♀️

I mean, I get it from a national security perspective - we need to protect our borders and all that jazz 😬. But at the same time, aren't we saying that anyone with a non-Western background is somehow less worthy of a home in Denmark? 🌎 That's just not right. We should be welcoming people who want a better life for themselves and their families. 💕

And what about the UN high commissioner's words? Isn't it time we took human rights more seriously than this "parallel societies" law? 🤝 I'm all for national identity, but can't we find a way to balance that with compassion and understanding? 🌈

🤔 I think denmark's policy might not be as clear cut as they make it out to be 🙅‍♂️. on one hand, reducing asylum seekers is defo a good thing, but on the other, some of these people are literally fleeing war or persecution in their home countries and just need a safe place to land for a bit 😕. and what about all the young folks who've been born in denmark or have lived there their whole lives - do they deserve any say in how the country is run? 🤷‍♀️ it's like, can't we find a way to make everyone feel welcome without sacrificing our own identity? 💖

so i think denmark's approach is like a puzzle 🤔
it's got some good points like reducing asylum seekers, but also has some issues
the "parallel societies" law is like a red flag 🔴
demolishing apartment blocks because of non-western background?
that's not how you integrate people into society 🌈
and the temporary residence permits can be really stressful for refugees
i mean who wants to live with that uncertainty? 😬
as for mette frederiksen, i think she needs to listen more to critics like eva singer
they're trying to help her make informed decisions 👂
but at the same time, i get why danish politicians want to reduce asylum seekers
national identity is a big deal for them 🏛️
it's just that they need to find a better way to do it than what they have now 🤷‍♀️
