Their love is no longer blind: Why some fans say they've soured on Netflix's dating show

Love Is Blind's Season 9 Sparks Outrage and Disappointment

The ninth season of Netflix's hit dating show Love Is Blind has left fans underwhelmed, with many taking to social media to express their disappointment. The premise of the show, which initially captivated audiences in 2020, appears to have lost its magic for some viewers.

According to fans, the show's lackluster performance is due to a combination of factors, including a lack of genuine romance and several controversies that have marred previous seasons. Kadidjha Traore, who was among the many fans who posted about their disappointment on TikTok, cited the success of season one fan favorites Lauren Speed-Hamilton and Cameron Hamilton as a reason for her disillusionment.

"I think the series has lost its spark, the reason it was created," Traore said. "It kind of has deteriorated." While some fans still enjoy the show's drama and mess, many feel that the lack of romance is not enough to make up for it.

The cast of season 9, which took place in Denver, has also been subject to scrutiny. Several contestants have raised eyebrows with their questionable motivations and maturity levels, leading some fans to question whether they were truly vetted by the show's producers.

Dating shows continue to be a staple of reality TV programming, but even the most popular ones face intense criticism from fans. The long-running Bachelor franchise has seen its ratings wane amid criticism for being stale, while other shows like Love Is Blind have faced backlash over issues such as cyberbullying and mental health.

Claire Fallon and Emma Gray, co-hosts of the "Love To See It" podcast, attributed the show's struggles to the fact that reality TV is inherently unpredictable. "The thing about a reality television show is that while producers can intervene and do a lot to shape that narrative, you are still dealing with real people at the end of the day," Gray said.

Despite the controversy surrounding season 9, some fans continue to enjoy the show's drama and mess. Rikkii Wise, who has amassed a following on TikTok, even prefers the show's current iteration, saying "I think that maybe they should bring back that clause" – referring to the option for contestants to leave the show before getting married.

The season 9 reunion airs at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT), and Wise has speculated about what will go down in the episode. While she doesn't believe love is blind, even after watching every season, she acknowledges that people have found love on the show and are still going strong.

Chris Coelen, the creator of Love Is Blind, maintains that the experiment worked as intended, citing instances where couples felt their love was not strong enough to overcome real-world challenges. However, for many fans, it seems that the magic has worn off, leaving them feeling disappointed and disillusioned with the show's latest season.

Love Is Blind just isn't doing it for me this season 🤔. I get why people are still rooting for it, but to be honest, I think it's lost some of its charm 💔. Maybe they should've kept the initial concept fresh and exciting, instead of playing it safe like this time around 😐. The drama and mess are still there, but it's all a bit too predictable now 📺. And yeah, the contestants seem to be coming across as pretty shallow 🤷‍♀️. Can't say I'm on board with Rikkii Wise's idea of bringing back that "leave before getting married" clause though 😂. Still, gotta give props to Claire and Emma for trying to break down why reality TV can be so unpredictable 📈. Maybe next season will find its way again?

I feel me 😩 I think its all about expectation now... season 1 was so fire 💥 everyone was hooked on those love stories but now its like they're trying too hard to recreate that magic and its just not working 🤷‍♀️ i mean, i still watch it for the drama and stuff but if u wanna see real romance, u should be looking elsewhere 😉

Season 9 is a total snooze fest 🤯😴. I mean, where's the drama? The romance? It's just so... predictable now 😒. The contestants are all just trying to get famous or rich, and it shows 💸. And don't even get me started on the producers - they're not doing enough to keep things interesting 🤷‍♀️. I swear, if I have to watch one more episode of "let's get married in 5 days" I'm gonna lose it 😂. Can we just bring back the good old seasons where people actually found love for real? 💔

lol this 9th season is like they took all the drama and mess from seasons before and just amplified it 😂💁‍♀️ i mean who thought it was a good idea to have contestants that are literally trying out for a reality tv show? 🤣 it's like they're trying to make themselves famous instead of finding love. and another thing, why do they still keep having those super annoying interviews with the contestants before they get engaged? ugh it's just too much drama 💔 but i guess if people want to watch it, more power to them 😏

idk what happened to love is blind 🤔 season 9 just feels like a mess 📺 lots of drama but not enough romance, i mean who wants to watch people fight all the time? 💁‍♀️ i think they should have done more vetting on the contestants or something 🚫 it's like producers are trying to make some kind of tv show instead of helping couples find love ❤️ season 9 just doesn't live up to season one imo 👎

the whole love is blind thing feels like a fleeting fad to me 🤔. i mean, at first it was all about this revolutionary concept of finding love in isolation, but now it just seems like another tired reality tv formula 📺. and don't even get me started on the drama and manipulation that goes on behind the scenes - it's like, can we just be honest with ourselves for once? 💁‍♀️. i think what really lost the show is the lack of depth and substance, just a bunch of manufactured conflict and emotional manipulation 🤷‍♀️.

I gotta say, I've been watching Love Is Blind since like 2020 and I gotta agree with some of these fans 😒. The show was so captivating at first, but now it just feels like a mess 🤯. I mean, where's the romance? It's all drama and tension, but is that really what we're looking for in a dating show? I think they need to get back to basics, you know? Less controversies and more genuine connections 💕.

And don't even get me started on some of these contestants 😳. They come off as so fake or trying too hard 🤪. It's like they didn't really put themselves out there and be vulnerable. I love that Lauren Speed-Hamilton and Cameron Hamilton worked through their issues, but now it just feels like the show is relying on drama instead of real feelings 💔.

I'm kinda surprised Chris Coelen isn't taking any more steps to address this 🤷‍♂️. The show's magic was definitely part of its charm, and I don't think you can replicate that with just a few tweaks 🔄. Maybe they need to take a step back and re-evaluate what the show is all about 💡.

Anyway, it's always interesting to see how fans react to these shows 🤔. Love Is Blind will always have its die-hard fans, but for me, I'm kinda done with the drama 😒. Time to move on to something new 👀!

🤔 honestly think its just too much drama 🎬 some ppl just wanna find love not get roasted on national tv i still enjoy watchin episodes of L IB but gotta admit its been a bit meh lately 👀 maybe they need to shake things up a bit? like introduce new twists or something 💡

I'm soooo over Love Is Blind right now 💔🚫 I mean, I used to be a total fanboy of the show, but after season 9, I just don't get it anymore 🤷‍♂️ The producers are just phoning it in at this point, and the contestants are getting so extra 🙄 Like, come on guys, if you're gonna bring drama, at least have the decency to not make it all about yourself 🚫. And don't even get me started on the lack of romance 😔 I mean, where's the magic? Where's the spark? It's just a bunch of people arguing and crying all the time 🤯.

And can we talk about how some of these contestants are just so...basic 🙄 Like, what's up with that one guy who got his own spin-off show 🤦‍♂️. I mean, come on, dude, you're not even interesting enough to be your own spin-off 💀. And the other ones? Forget about it 😂. They're all just a bunch of try-hards trying to get attention and fame 💁‍♀️.

I guess what I'm saying is that Love Is Blind used to be this amazing, experimental show that really captured people's hearts 🤗, but now it just feels like a tired, formulaic reality TV show 📺. Maybe they should bring back some of the old magic 🔮 or at least shake things up a bit 🔄. But for now? I'm out 👋💔

can't say i'm surprised 🤔 season 9 feels like more of the same drama & mess without much genuine romance 🚫 love is blind was a nice experiment but seems to have lost its magic 💔 think it's time for a refresh or maybe just stop making new seasons 😴 what's next?

🤔 i mean, love is blind sounds like a dope concept but if the romance is lacking and you're just getting drama for the sake of it, then what's the point? 🤑 they used to say that it was all about finding true love, but now it just feels like another reality tv show where people are trying to manipulate the narrative for ratings. 👀 i also feel like they changed the format too much this season, it's not as smooth or cohesive as previous ones. 📺 and yeah, some of these contestants do come off as kinda weird... 😂 if you ask me, love is blind was at its best when it was a little more low-key and focused on the actual relationships. 💕

omg i'm like totally over love is blind rn 🤦‍♀️ season 9 just didn't do it for me either... i mean who needs all that drama when u can have actual chemistry between ppl? 💔 and btw what's up with these contestants always talking about their 'motivations' like they're trying out for a role or something 🤣

I'm low-key disappointed in S9 of Love Is Blind 🤔. I mean, where's the sizzle? The drama is still there, but it feels like they're just phoning it in now. And don't even get me started on some of these contestants...like, what were they thinking? 😂 It's like they're not even trying to be genuine anymore. I'm all about the love and relationships, and this season just fell flat for me. Maybe they should bring back that whole "leave if you're not feeling it" thing? 💁‍♀️ At least then we'd know which couples were actually meant to be. 🤷‍♀️

Ugh 🤔 I feel like they're just phoning it in this season... the romance is so lacking and all the drama feels forced 🎬. And can we talk about the contestants? Some of them are literally so immature it's cringeworthy 😂. Like, what even happened to Lauren and Cameron's magic from seasons past? I'm not buying that the show's lost its spark, but more like they're running out of talented folks to cast 💔. Love Is Blind used to be all about finding real love, now it feels like just a reality TV soap opera 📺

I mean, I'm kinda disappointed too 🤔... I loved watching those people try to find love in a totally weird setup, but now it just feels like they're all being set up for drama instead of actual romance 😐. And the whole thing about the contestants being questionable is wild... I don't know if the producers are doing enough to vet them, you know? 🤷‍♀️

It's like, I get why people would want to watch a trainwreck, but when it starts feeling like we're just watching the same old predictable drama unfold, that's when it loses its appeal 📺. And don't even get me started on how some of these contestants are being super immature... what's up with that? 😒

I think what really bothers me is when people say "oh, reality TV is just unpredictable", like that's a good excuse for everything going wrong 🙄. The show can still be edited and produced to create drama, but at the end of the day, it's still just people being themselves (mostly) unprepared for actual relationships 😂.

Anyway, I'm gonna watch the reunion episode out of morbid curiosity... will they even remember their own names? 😆

🤔 I feel me too 😔. The last few seasons of Love Is Blind have just been so... meh 🤷‍♀️. Don't get me wrong, it was defo a fun watch when it first came out, but now it just feels like the same old drama and cringeworthy dates 😳. I mean, where's the romance? Where's the magic? It just seems like they're throwing together some random people and hoping for sparks to fly 💫, but honestly, most of them just don't gel 🤦‍♂️.

And can we talk about the cast this season? Some of these contestants are just so... extra 🤪. Like, I get that everyone's trying to stand out, but some of it feels like they're just trying way too hard 🙄. And what's up with all the controversy? It feels like they're more focused on drama than actually finding love 💔.

I'm still gonna watch the reunion though 😏, 'cause I love a good trainwreck, and I'm always curious to see how it all goes down 👀. But for now, I think Love Is Blind just needs a little TLC 🤗 to get its spark back 🔥.

🤔 The shows been on for 9 seasons now and the magic's gone? I think they need to shake things up instead of rehashing the same old formula. Maybe a new format or location would bring some excitement back 🌈

I think the series has lost its spark 💔 the reason it was created... 🤷‍♂️ it kinda has deteriorated 😒 I'm not surprised tho lol the drama and mess is still here but like, where's the romance? 🤔 some fans are just expecting too much from a reality show idk 🤷‍♀️

I think I get why people are disappointed with Season 9 of Love Is Blind 🤔. The show was all about finding true love in a unique way, but now it just feels like another drama-filled reality TV show 😐. They're still bringing out those same contestants who are a bit too old to be on the show or have some questionable motivations 🙄. And don't even get me started on the lack of romance! It's all about the drama and mess, not actual love connections ❤️. I'm with Rikkii Wise on this one - maybe they should bring back that 'get out before you marry' clause 😂. The show's creators seem to be saying it worked as intended, but for me, it feels like a formulaic reality TV show now 📺.
