Three sequels worth watching in 2026—and three to avoid at all costs

The long-awaited lightning-in-a-bottle ceremony has finally arrived. For Hollywood's top executives, a successful film sequel is like capturing the elusive spark of genius – it's what separates the champions from the also-rans.

This year promises to be no different. As the industry continues its relentless pursuit of franchise gold, there are three sequels worth watching in 2026 and three that you'd do well to avoid at all costs.

First up, "The Devil Wears Prada 2," which has had a long time brewing in development hell. But with Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci back on board, this one's got promise – as long as they get the title right. Will David Frankel's follow-up to the iconic original capture lightning in a bottle or fizzle out? Only time will tell.

Next, we have "Focker-in-Law," the fourth installment in the Meet the Parents franchise. With Robert De Niro reprising his role as the cantankerous Jack Byrnes and Ben Stiller back as the hapless Greg Focker, this one feels like a lazy cash-grab. The question on everyone's mind is: will it finally get anything right?

Then there's "Scary Movie 6," which brings back Anna Faris and Regina Hall as Cindy Campbell and Brenda Meeks in a new installment of the horror-comedy franchise. With its long hiatus, this one could be either a hilarious return to form or a desperate attempt at recapturing past glory. One thing's for sure – it'll be a wild ride.

On the flip side, we have "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping," which feels like a unnecessary prequel that's more concerned with prop up its star-studded cast than telling an actual story. Will this one rise to the challenge of exploring Woody Harrelson's backstory or will it fall flat?

Finally, there's "Ready or Not 2: Here I Come," which brings back Samara Weaving and Kathryn Newton in a sequel that promises to be just as bloody good as its predecessor. With Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Cronenberg on board, this one could be the dark horse of the year.

Last but not least, we have "Toy Story 5," which feels like more of the same old, same old from Pixar – big swings and diminishing returns. Will the toy cowboy Woody and his extraterrestrial companion Buzz Lightyear contend with a new tablet in their lives or will this one fizzle out?

In short, while there are three sequels worth watching in 2026, three that you'd do well to avoid at all costs – the key question is: can anyone capture lightning in a bottle twice?

🤔 think we should be more careful with sequels these days. so many are just rehashing old ideas instead of trying something new. and honestly, i'm not even sure if it's worth the hype anymore... 📺

omg i just saw the funniest video of a cat playing piano online yesterday 🐱😹 what was it doing exactly btw? anyway this movie stuff sounds kinda meh to me. why do they need so many sequels? and what's with all the celebrities being in them? like isnt anna faris busy enough already 😂

I'm low-key excited for Toy Story 5 🤔. Pixar always brings their A-game and I love how they're exploring Woody's struggles with new tech. On the other hand, "The Devil Wears Prada 2" has got me hyped 💁‍♀️ - Meryl Streep is a national treasure and if Anne Hathaway can bring that same fire from the first movie, it could be magic ✨. But, honestly, I'm not feeling "Focker-in-Law" 🚽 - it sounds like more of the same old Jack Byrnes antics. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meet_the_Parents

I'm low-key hyped for "The Devil Wears Prada 2" - with that talented cast on board, I think they might actually get it right this time 🤞. But let's be real, David Frankel needs to step up his game or else we'll all be left feeling like fashion disasters 😂. As for "Focker-in-Law", please just tell me you're making fun of the title and not actually serious about a fourth Meet the Parents movie 😒. The only one that's got me genuinely curious is "Ready or Not 2: Here I Come" - with Sarah Michelle Gellar on board, this could be dark horse contender 🤯. And can we just get some actual plot development in "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping"? Like, what's the point of a prequel that doesn't even tell a new story? 😴

I'm still salty about how many movies just copy what's already working for them. Like "Toy Story 5" and all its formulaic predictability 🤯 - how long until they come up with something truly original? Meanwhile, I'm hyped for "Ready or Not 2: Here I Come", that one looks dark and twisted enough to shake things up 😈

I'm so excited for "The Devil Wears Prada 2" lol. I mean, Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway are like, the ultimate fashion icons. It's gonna be fire... or at least a stylish attempt to get it right. On the other hand, I'm all about playing the odds with "Focker-in-Law". I mean, four movies in? That's like me making four consecutive memes – not a great track record 😂. Anna Faris and Regina Hall better bring their A-game for "Scary Movie 6" or it'll be a real scream... of disappointment 🤣. And can we talk about how unnecessary the next Hunger Games movie is? Woody Harrelson's backstory? Give me a break. But hey, if anyone can make it happen, it's Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Cronenberg – they're like the ultimate horror-comedy duo 👻💀.

OMG 😱 I am literally SO done with these movie franchises and how they're milking them for every last penny! "The Devil Wears Prada 2" sounds like a total snooze fest to me 🤯, especially if they don't get the title right - it's already too long without them. And can we please just let some new blood come into play instead of relying on these A-listers for every movie?

On the flip side, I am SO stoked for "Ready or Not 2: Here I Come"!!! 🎥 Samara Weaving is EVERYTHING and if this one lives up to its predecessor's hype... game. chnaged. 😏 And what's up with "The Hunger Games" prequel?! Like, can't they just leave the original series alone? It feels like they're trying to cash in on Woody Harrelson's fame instead of actually crafting a compelling story.

And don't even get me started on "Toy Story 5"... I mean, come on! 🤯 Pixar is literally running out of ideas at this point. The whole tablet thing just sounds like another lazy attempt at being relevant to our modern world 🙄.

I'm so over these long-awaited movie sequels 🤯. It feels like every studio is just cashing in on a successful film without actually putting thought into what makes it tick. The problem is, how many times can you rehash the same old story before it starts to feel stale? Take "The Devil Wears Prada 2", for example - it's got all the right names attached, but will that be enough to carry the film? I'm not convinced.

And don't even get me started on "Focker-in-Law" 😂. It feels like a lazy cash-grab, relying on nostalgia rather than actually trying to make something new and interesting. And what's with the title change from "Meet the Parents 4"? It's just confusing.

On the flip side, I'm always up for a good horror-comedy, so "Scary Movie 6" has got some potential 🎃. But let's be real, it's hard to recapture past glory, and if this one falls flat, it'll be a major disappointment.

But hey, at least we've got "Ready or Not 2: Here I Come", which is still a dark horse in my book 🔪. With Sarah Michelle Gellar on board, I'm intrigued - can she bring the necessary level of menace to make this sequel work? And what about "Toy Story 5" 🤠? Is it time for Woody and Buzz to retire their toys or continue to get old?

In short, capturing lightning in a bottle twice is a tall order, but if any of these sequels can manage it, I'll be the first one cheering 🎉.

I think the thing with these movie franchises is they're trying so hard to recapture past magic that sometimes it feels like they're just going through the motions. Take "The Devil Wears Prada 2" for example - with such an iconic cast, you'd expect more from David Frankel than just a title tweak 🤔. It's all about setting up a sequel, but what does it even mean to 'capture lightning in a bottle' now? Is it really possible for two films to be that different?

On the other hand, I'm kinda excited about "Ready or Not 2: Here I Come" - with Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Cronenberg on board, there's definitely potential for some dark magic 🔪. The problem is, franchises can get so formulaic that it's hard to tell what they're really trying to say.

And let's be real, "Toy Story 5" feels like a waste of Woody and Buzz's talents - I mean, how many times can you rehash the same old toy adventures before it starts to feel stale? 🤣

I'm so down for another round of movie sequels. I mean, who doesn't love a good repeat performance right? 🤣

Apparently, "The Devil Wears Prada 2" is actually coming back after all those years, and with that iconic cast on board, it might just get it right this time. Fingers crossed for a better title too! 🤞

On the flip side, I'm super skeptical about "Focker-in-Law". Like, isn't it time to retire the Meet the Parents franchise already? 😒 Anyway, I'll reserve judgment till release.

What's up with all these sequels tho? Can't we just have some new IPs for once? 🤔

idk man, some of these sequels sound like they're just cashing checks 🤑. i mean, "Focker-in-Law" seems like a total lazy grab at easy merch and laughs. but on the other hand, having anna faris and regina hall back in scary movie 6 is pretty appealing 😂. and i'm curious to see what they do with samara weaving and kathryn newton's characters in ready or not 2 🤔. maybe they'll surprise us all and make a good sequel out of a bad idea

🤔 I'm not sure about "The Devil Wears Prada 2" yet. I mean, if they get the title right and deliver on the promise of that iconic first film, it might just work. 🙃 But with all these big names, the pressure is on... ⏰

🤔 I'm so over people hating on the sequels before they even come out. I mean, can't we just give 'em a chance? I think "The Devil Wears Prada 2" has got potential – Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep are legends, for real! And as for "Focker-in-Law", well, it's not like the original was perfect or anything... 😂 Robert De Niro is always good for a laugh. As for "Scary Movie 6", I'm low-key excited – Anna Faris and Regina Hall are hilarious together! 🤣 On the other hand, I can see why some people would be meh on "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping" – it sounds like a bit of a cash-grab. But hey, if Woody Harrelson is in it, I'll give it a shot! 🎬 And let's not forget about "Ready or Not 2: Here I Come" and its super talented cast... I'm all for more Samara Weaving, tbh 😏

I gotta say, I'm feeling kinda meh about some of these sequel announcements 🤔. I mean, "The Devil Wears Prada 2" has got a great cast lined up, but only if they really nail the script this time around 💁‍♀️. And honestly, can we please just leave "Focker-in-Law" alone? It's like they're just phoning it in at this point 📞.

But on a more positive note, I'm super stoked about "Ready or Not 2: Here I Come"! Samara Weaving and Kathryn Newton are amazing talents, and with Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Cronenberg on board, I have high hopes for this one 😃. And of course, who can resist another installment of the Toy Story franchise? 🎸

Overall, it's just going to be a wild ride with all these sequels hitting the market. Some will shine, some will fall flat... but hey, that's what makes Hollywood so exciting, right? 🎬

I'm so done with these movie sequels 🙄. It's always the same thing - cashing in on a franchise because it's made money before. Don't even get me started on how lazy they are, relying on old casts and reusing plotlines. The only way you're gonna capture lightning in a bottle is if you bring something new to the table, not just throw a bunch of familiar faces together 🙃.

And honestly, I'm worried about "Toy Story 5" being more of the same old thing... what's next? A sequel to Toy Story 6?! 😂 Give me a break. Can't they come up with something fresh for once?

I do have to say though, if "The Devil Wears Prada 2" gets it right, that would be awesome 👗. Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep are like a match made in heaven - but we'll just have to wait and see how this one plays out 🤔.

It's also interesting to note that most of these sequels feel like they're relying on nostalgia rather than actual storytelling... I mean, come on, "Scary Movie 6" is basically just a rehashing of the same old jokes 🎉. Can't we get something with some real substance for once? 🤷‍♂️

I'm low-key hyped for "The Devil Wears Prada 2" - Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep have been holding this franchise together for years, and with Emily Blunt on board too, I think they've got the magic formula. But gotta be real, if David Frankel can't bring his A-game, it's gonna be a total snooze-fest 🤯.

On the other hand, "Focker-in-Law" is straight up a mess. I mean, how many times do we get to see Robert De Niro's grumpy face before it gets old? Ben Stiller can do better than that, imo 😒.

I'm really curious about "Scary Movie 6", though. Anna Faris and Regina Hall are comedic royalty, so if they can just get a decent script behind them, I'm all in 🎉.

As for "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping" - come on, do we really need more unnecessary prequels? Can't we just leave Woody Harrelson's backstory alone? 😤

And lastly, "Ready or Not 2: Here I Come" has all the makings of a sick horror-comedy. Samara Weaving and Kathryn Newton are already giving me major creepy vibes 🕷️.

Overall, though, it feels like we're stuck in some kinda cinematic Groundhog Day - how many times can these franchises keep getting rebooted before they just fade away? 🤯

It's gonna be an interesting year for Hollywood! 🤯 I'm actually super hyped about "Ready or Not 2: Here I Come" and how it's going to compare to the original. With Samara Weaving and Kathryn Newton back on board, I think they've got a winner on their hands. The addition of Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Cronenberg only adds more excitement 🤪. On the other hand, "The Devil Wears Prada 2" has got some big names attached but it's also been in development hell for ages - we'll see if it lives up to its promise 💁‍♀️. As for "Focker-in-Law", I'm just not feeling it 😐 - the franchise is already a bit of a joke, and I don't think they can salvage that with just another installment 🤣.

🤔 I'm so over these movie franchises just recycling the same old ideas over and over. Like, what's next? A "Sex and the City 3" with Carrie Bradshaw getting older and wiser 🙄? Or a new "Spider-Man" film where they just rehash the same plot from the last one... zzz... I'm all for sequels if they bring something new to the table, but it feels like most of these are just throwing money at a problem hoping it'll work out 💸. Give me some fresh ideas and original storytelling any day! 🎬

The eternal quest for cinematic magic 🤣. I mean, who needs originality when you can just rehash what's already been done and hope it doesn't fall flat like the last few attempts 😴. The fact that they're even trying to make more money off of tired franchises is kinda impressive... said no one ever 💸. At least "Toy Story 5" isn't pretending to be something it's not, just a rehashing of what we already know and love (or tolerate) 🎥.
