Threshold: the choir who sing to the dying - documentary

"Song for the End: The Unwavering Harmony of Threshold"

In a world where music often serves as solace and comfort, one extraordinary group of singers is dedicating their craft to those who need it most – patients on the brink of life's final breath. Meet Threshold, an unprecedented choir that finds its voice in the darkest of places.

Led by artistic director Nicky Honeyman, this unorthodox ensemble has been making waves with their mission to bring hope and healing to the dying through the power of song. Comprising a diverse range of vocalists from various backgrounds, Threshold's performances have become an integral part of palliative care units across the UK.

Their repertoire is carefully curated to resonate with those in their final hours, tackling themes of mortality, loss, and love. Each carefully selected piece serves as a sonic balm, providing solace for both patients and those mourning beside them. The choir's unique blend of traditional hymns and contemporary classics creates an otherworldly atmosphere that transcends the boundaries between life and death.

"We're not just singing to the dying – we're singing with them," Honeyman explains in an interview. "It's a privilege to be part of this journey, to help people find peace and closure."

As Threshold takes to the stage or fills the hospital rooms with their sweet harmonies, they are met with an unexpected response – gratitude. Patients who were previously hesitant or even hostile begin to open up, revealing moments of tenderness and joy that had been suppressed by pain and fear.

Threshold's impact extends far beyond the individual patients they serve; it has also inspired a movement in the medical community to rethink the way we approach death care. Their innovative approach not only provides emotional respite but also encourages healthcare professionals to reevaluate their own relationships with mortality.

In an era where life is increasingly fragile, Threshold reminds us that even in our darkest moments, music can be a potent force for healing and hope. This extraordinary choir has given voice to the voiceless, and their legacy will undoubtedly continue to resonate long after the final notes fade away.

I'm totally blown away by this! 🙌 They're doing such amazing work with Threshold, it's truly inspiring. I mean, can you imagine walking into a hospital room where a patient is struggling to breathe, and then suddenly these beautiful voices come in and just transport them to another place? It's like magic, man. 💫 And the fact that they're not just singing for the patients, but with them, it's like... I don't even have words, you know? 😊 It's just a reminder that music has this incredible power to connect us all, even in our darkest moments. I'm totally here for this movement and I think we should all be supporting these guys! 💪

you know what's wild? i just saw this video of a cat playing the piano and it was literally the most adorable thing ever 🐈😻. i mean, who needs music therapy when you have cats on keyboards, right? anyway, back to Threshold... their approach is actually super inspiring, but i wonder if they've thought about using music as a form of stress relief for healthcare workers too? they're always dealing with tough stuff and I think some calming tunes could do them a world of good 😌

😊 I'm so moved by this story... think about it, we're all going through our own struggles in life, but these amazing singers are putting everything on the line to bring hope to people when they need it most. Their music is like a warm hug for those who are hurting - it's like Nicky says, "we're not just singing to the dying – we're singing with them" 🎶. It's so beautiful and I'm sure it must be an incredible experience for everyone involved... from the singers to the patients and their families. Can you imagine being in that kind of situation and having someone break out into song to lift your spirits? 💕 just thinking about it is giving me chills 😍. Let's all take a page from Threshold's book and spread some love and kindness wherever we go! ❤️

🙏 I think its kinda cool how they're bringing people together through music even when life is hangin by a thread 🎶. People say that songz can cure everything but I think Threshold's doin somethin real special here - helpin people find peace in the end 🌅. Its not about tryna cheer ppl up or anythin, its more like... they're just preservin the moment, ya know? And its not just the patients who r benefitin from this, its also the fams & friends of those dyin, gettin to experience that sense of closure 🎭. And yeah, I no some ppl might think it's weird or somethin but I think thats what makes it so amazin - they're breakin the rules & doin their own thing 💁‍♀️. Can't wait 2 see whats next for Threshold! 💖

idk why ppl need this kinda therapy but if it helps them cop w/ death better im all 4 it 🎶💔 they got talent & a good message lets just hope its not 2 commercialize or anythin 🤞 hospitals already r tryin 2 save $$$ by reducin staff so now they wanna sell u a choir service? sounds like a scam 2 me 👀

🎶 I'm totally blown away by this! These singers are literally angels in human form 🙏. The way they're using music to bring hope and healing to people who need it most is just incredible. It's like they're speaking directly to the soul, you know? 💫 I can imagine being in a hospital room with someone who's struggling to breathe, and then suddenly hearing this beautiful choir singing away... it would be like a weight has been lifted off their shoulders 🌟. And what's even more amazing is that they're not just performing for the patients, but also for the people who are grieving alongside them 💔. That takes so much courage and empathy. Let's all give it up for Threshold and their incredible mission! 💖

I'm not convinced about these palliative care units relying so heavily on this Threshold choir 🤔. Don't get me wrong, it's amazing that they're making a difference, but shouldn't we be focusing more on actual medical treatments and cures? 🤷‍♂️ It feels like we're just delaying the inevitable by providing emotional comfort instead of tackling the root cause of the problem. And what about those who can't afford this 'music therapy'? Don't they deserve equal access to real care? 🤑 The cost of these concerts might be covered, but what about the underlying issues that need to be addressed? 💸

💖 you know what really gets me thinking about this group Threshold? it's not just about singing to people who are dying, it's about acknowledging that death is a part of life. like, we try to avoid talking about it so much, but it's always there lurking in the background. and yet, when people are actually facing their mortality, they need something to hold onto. for them. not just for us. it's almost like... music is this universal language that can cut through all our fears and anxieties. but what does that even mean? is it really possible to transcend life and death through song? 🎶💔

I'm so moved by this story 🙏. I think it's beautiful that Threshold is bringing people together through music at such a difficult time in their lives. The way they say 'we're not just singing to the dying – we're singing with them' really resonates, doesn't it? It's not just about providing comfort but also creating space for connection and love. I can imagine how powerful that must be for patients and families facing the end of life. Have you heard their performances in person or is this something you've been following online?

omg you guys i just found out about this amazing choir called threshold & i'm literally in tears they're this incredible group of singers who perform for ppl who are dying & it's not just any old song they play - it's like, super personal & emotional stuff that helps people find peace & closure 🎶💔 i mean can you even imagine being in a hospital room when someone is about to pass away and then hearing this beautiful choir come in and singing these soulful songs? it must be, like, the most comforting thing ever! 💕 what's also crazy is that they're making ppl think differently about how we handle death & dying - it's like, we should totally have more of this kind of thing in hospitals 🏥💆‍♀️ i'm seriously inspired by these singers and i know everyone needs to hear about them ASAP 🤩

This song for the end thing really gets me ❤️. I mean, who needs more pain when you've got a choir singing about love and mortality? 🎶 The fact that they're doing this in hospitals is just 💡. Patients need hope not just comfort. And it's cool to see them inspiring change in the medical community too 👨‍⚕️. I guess what I'm saying is, if music can make a difference even in the darkest of times, then let's keep singing! 🎵
