Tottenham agree £34.6m deal for Conor Gallagher to head off Aston Villa interest

Spurs swoop in for England midfielder Conor Gallagher as Aston Villa interest falters

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly secured Conor Gallagher on a £34.6m deal, ending Aston Villa's hopes of signing the highly-touted English midfielder.

Gallagher's departure from Atlético Madrid has come after rapid talks between the two parties, with Tottenham emerging as the clear favourites to secure his services. A transfer fee of up to €40m (£34.6m) is believed to be on offer, although Spurs will still need to pay a significant portion upfront.

The move comes at a time when Tottenham are in need of midfield reinforcements following Rodrigo Bentancur's hamstring injury, which could keep him sidelined for three months. Gallagher's arrival would provide much-needed depth and experience in the engine room.

Gallagher, 25, has been with Atlético since 2024, signing on a five-year contract after leaving Chelsea. He has seen limited playing time this season and is keen to secure regular first-team action to boost his chances of making the England World Cup squad.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are also facing uncertainty over Mathys Tel's future at the club. The young forward has grown frustrated with his lack of game time under Thomas Frank, having been loaned out by Spurs twice since joining from Bayern Munich in 2023. Tel wants regular playing time to make a significant impact for France at the World Cup, and is open to leaving on loan again if it means getting more first-team action.

Spurs are also set to complete a £13m deal for Santos youngster Souza, a left-back who will add further depth to their squad. However, they remain in need of attacking reinforcements, with Mohammed Kudus set to be out until April with a thigh injury and Spurs linked with several other targets in the transfer market.

So Spurs finally did it... got Gallagher on board 🤩👍. I mean, it's about time they strengthened their midfield, what with Rodrigo's hamstring injury and all that 🤕. Gallagher's gotta be a solid addition, right? But £34.6m is still a pretty penny... can't say I'm totally sold on the price tag just yet 💸.

Still, Spurs need to bring in some more attacking firepower, and they're not alone in that regard 🔥. Tel's situation's getting frustrating for him (and France fans, tbh), so maybe this move will spark some change 🔄. And Souza looks like a nice addition on the left-back side 🤝.

But one thing's for sure: Spurs need to sort out their injury woes... it can't be easy being the team with all these players out at the same time 😩. Fingers crossed they can get back to full strength soon 💪!

🚨😩 another talented player falls through the cracks 🤕 Conor Gallagher's move to Spurs is a bummer for Aston Villa fans. The lad's been stuck on the bench all season at Atlético Madrid, now he'll be fighting for starters at Tottenham... not exactly what you'd call a dream scenario 😔. Meanwhile, Tel's frustration with lack of game time is no joke 🤯, if Spurs can't give him regular minutes, maybe he should just cut ties and get more first-team action elsewhere 🚫.

omg u guys i cant even right now lol Tottenham just snatched Conor Gallagher from under Aston Villa's nose lol I mean i feel bad for the lad, he wanted regular playing time so badly and now hes stuck on loan again 🤦‍♂️ but Spurs need him like ASAP with Rodrigo out for 3 months or whatever they gonna do without their midfilder? 🤔 also whats up with Mathys Tel, dude is literally dying over here 🤣 he wants to make it to the France World Cup squad but cant even get a decent game time in the spurs first team lol and now Spurs are signing Souza the leftback lol they need like 3 more people at this point 😂

OMG, just heard the news about Conor Gallagher joining Spurs! 🤯 I'm loving this move for Tottenham, he's such a talented player and will bring a lot of experience to the midfield. That £34.6m deal is a steal if you ask me! 💸 The fact that Aston Villa are out of the running is hilarious, they just couldn't compete with Spurs' deep pockets 😂. And can we talk about how Spurs need this move? Rodrigo's hamstring injury has left them really light in midfield and Gallagher will be a game-changer. Fingers crossed he settles well and helps Spurs finish the season strong! 🏆

I'm not really sure about this one... 🤔 I mean, Conor Gallagher is a decent player, but £34.6m is a lot of money for a midfielder who's been playing second fiddle to some other guys at Atlético Madrid. Is Spurs just trying to make a statement or something? 💸 And what's going on with Mathys Tel? He seems like he needs more game time if he wants to play for France... 🤷‍♂️ I mean, it's not like Spurs are the only ones who want him, but it feels like they're being kinda unfair to him. 😐

I'm not surprised Tottenham got him... I mean, it's not like they didn't have money to burn or something 🤑. But seriously, this is just another example of how Spurs are gonna throw cash around and hope for the best. They need midfield depth, sure, but can they even keep that depth healthy? Rodrigo's injury is a ticking time bomb... and what about Tel? He's like a pet project at this point, and I'm not sure how long he'll last in the squad 🤔. And don't even get me started on Souza – left-back, yeah right... like we haven't seen that type of signing before from Spurs 🙄.

omg u guys i cant even 🤯 Tottenham just got Conor Gallagher for 34.6m lol that's insane! i mean i get it they need midfield reinforcements but come on that's a pretty penny 💸. i'm still rooting for Aston Villa tho, they had him in their sights and it looks like they blew it 😔. Gallagher is def gonna be a game changer for Spurs though, he's been with Atlético since 2024 and has only gotten like 5 mins of playing time lol what took them so long?! 🤷‍♂️ also i feel bad for Mathys Tel, dude wants to make the France squad but gets loaned out AGAIN 😔. anyone think Spurs are gonna do some more signings before the window closes? ⏰

man i think Spurs made a solid move here 🤑 Conor Gallagher is gonna be a great asset for them, especially with Rodrigo's injury 🤕 he needs some fresh legs in midfield ASAP 💪 also love that they're signing Souza, left-backs are always hard to find 🙌 but Tel's situation is kinda weird... i get it, he wants first-team action, but Spurs are already stacked at the front 🤔 hope Tel can sort out his issues and we see him thrive in a loan 🔥

I'm so over this transfer season already 😩 I mean, don't get me wrong, Conor Gallagher is an awesome player, but £34.6m? It's like they're trying to break the bank 🤑 Remember when we used to watch players like David Beckham and Ryan Giggs for peanuts? Now it's all about the big bucks 💸 And what's with Tottenham always having to swoop in at the last minute? They sound like a bunch of kids buying their first cars, always looking for that next fix 🚗 I swear, back in my day, we didn't need a gazillion players on the squad just because one or two got injured. We managed just fine with fewer people 💪 Oh well, to each their own, I guess...

Ugh I cant believe how fast this season is going by already 🤯 I mean, i know Conor Gallagher wasnt one of my favorite players on Chelsea, but still... £34.6m for him? thats a lot of dosh 💸. I remember when footballers were a fraction of that price and they still managed to put in good performances. Spurs need someone like that now with Rodrigo Bentancur out for 3 months... it's getting a bit desperate over there 🔥 And dont even get me started on Tel, i felt bad for the guy, but at least he got another loan deal 🤔. I hope Spurs can sort out their attack soon or else it's gonna be a long season 😩

OMG 🤯 Tottenham just swooped in and got Conor Gallagher for £34.6m 💸! I'm so here for it, they really needed some midfield magic 💫 and he's gonna bring that 🔥! The fact that Aston Villa lost out on him is like, what happened? 😂 did their scouts not do their job? 🤔 anyway, Gallagher's gonna be a game-changer for Spurs, especially with Rodrigo Bentancur being out injured 👏. Now if only they could get Tel to chill and let him shine 🙄, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed he finds his footing soon 💕. And btw, Souza the new left-back is gonna be super cool 😎!

omg u guys! 🤯 Spurs just secured Conor Gallagher for £34.6m and I'm hella hyped!!! 😆 this dude is supposed to bring some serious depth & experience to their midfield, which is super needed right now since Rodrigo's out with a hamstring injury 💔. i mean, Gareth Bale was never the same after that injury in 2019 lol 🤣. but seriously, Gallagher's been stuck on the bench at Atlético and this deal is gonna give him the first-team action he needs to make the England squad 🏆. can't wait to see what Tottenham do with Tel next tho... seems like a major overhaul for that guy 😬. btw, did u catch the last Premier League match? ⚽

Ugh, I'm so done with these transfer windows 🤯! It's like, can't we just focus on getting some quality players who actually want to play for the team? Conor Gallagher just jumped ship from Atlético Madrid to Tottenham Hotspur for a whopping £34.6m fee, and I mean, what's the logic behind that? Is he really worth it for Spurs?

Meanwhile, Aston Villa is left with a bunch of scraps, and now they're like "oh no, we can't sign Conor Gallagher". It's like, grow up, guys! You need to be more proactive in the transfer market. And don't even get me started on Tel's situation – poor kid just wants some playing time and isn't getting it 🤦‍♂️.

I'm all for Spurs trying to strengthen their squad, but let's be real, they're not exactly overflowing with attacking options right now 😅. Kudus is out until April, and we've got these other mystery targets floating around... It's like, can't we just get some concrete signings already? 🤔
