Trump Could ‘Make Us Slaves’ Over Greenland Tariffs, EU Leader Warns (Live)

European Leaders Scorn Trump's Greenland Tariffs Plan, Warn of Slavery

The European Union has issued a stern warning to US President Donald Trump over his plan to impose tariffs on eight European countries that support Denmark's claim to Greenland. In a scathing rebuke, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called the move "a mistake," vowing her full solidarity with both Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark.

Von der Leyen's comments came as leaders from across Europe gathered in Switzerland for the World Economic Forum in Davos, where Trump is also expected to speak. Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever echoed von der Leyen's sentiment, warning that if the US were to pursue its tariffs plan, it could "make us slaves."

The EU has responded by considering a range of options, including deploying the Anti-Coercion Instrument, a policy designed to retaliate against what it sees as economic intimidation. French President Emmanuel Macron described this approach as "crazy," highlighting the deep divisions between Europe and the US.

In contrast, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent urged European leaders not to escalate tensions, urging them to wait and see how things play out rather than reacting with force.

The move has sparked outrage among many world leaders, including California Governor Gavin Newsom, who mocked Trump's critics for appearing "pathetic" on the world stage. However, von der Leyen's comments have sent a clear message that Europe will not back down in the face of what it sees as US economic coercion.

As the situation continues to unfold, one thing is certain: the Greenland tariffs plan has exposed deep rifts between the US and its European allies, leaving many wondering whether the two sides can find common ground before it's too late.

omg have u guys ever dealt with a teacher trying 2 get u 2 support a ridiculous claim from their side? it's like, same thing here european leaders are all like "nope we won't back down" and trump is all like "i'm gonna bully u into supporting me"... it's so sad 🤕

and can someone explain to me why we need tariffs in the first place? isn't trade supposed 2 be about cooperation not aggression? anyway, i think europe should just stick 2 their guns (or whatever that thing is called) and not let trump bully them around 😒

i do feel a little bad for scott bessent tho, he's trying 2 calm things down but it's hard when everyone else is all riled up 🤷‍♀️

🤔 I'm not surprised by this reaction from Europe 🇪🇺, it feels like Trump's getting his wires crossed again 😕. Tariffs? Really? It's just going to escalate tensions and hurt both parties in the long run 🤷‍♂️. And what's with the "slavery" comment? That's just plain ridiculous 😂. I think we need a reality check over here, maybe some diplomatic talks instead of brinksmanship 💬. This isn't about winning a trade war, it's about cooperation and mutual respect 🤝.

I'm genuinely worried about this whole Greenland tariffs mess 🤔. The EU is right to stand firm against what could be seen as economic blackmail. It's like Trump thinks he's above international law or something 😒. I don't think the US should be able to just bully its friends over a territorial dispute. And let's not forget, this move is basically trying to dictate how Denmark handles its own affairs 🤷‍♀️. The EU has every right to retaliate and take steps to protect its interests. It's time for Trump to learn that being a superpower comes with some serious responsibilities 💪.

omg u gotta see dis!!!! european leaders are hella mad at trump's plan 🤯😡 like, they're basically saying we ain't afraid of u! 💁‍♀️ uruela von der leyen is low-key killing the game over here 👑 she's got the EU all shook up and i am HERE FOR IT!!! 😂 what's next? 🤔

💸 Trump thinks he can strong-arm Europe? Newsom might've been right about his critics being pathetic 😂. The EU is holding firm on this one 🙅‍♀️. Who needs slavery when you have tariffs? 0% chance of success for the US 💔

I don't think Trump realizes how this is gonna play out 😒. EU leaders are not gonna back down that easily. This whole thing just shows how much Europe values its relationship with Denmark and Greenland. It's like, what's the point of all these tariffs if it's just gonna make some people upset? 🤷‍♂️ I'm kinda surprised Trump thought this was a good idea, but I guess you can't always read people's intentions from their tweets 💡. Anyways, I think we're in for a long and tense period with the EU and the US going back and forth like this...

I cant believe what Trump is trying to pull off here 🤯! Tariffs on Europe over Denmark's claim to Greenland? It's just crazy talk 😂. The EU is not going to take this lying down, they'll fight back hard 💪. I mean, who does Trump think he is, trying to strong-arm the Europeans like that? 🤑 It's like he thinks they're all just a bunch of sheep waiting to be shepherded 🐑. Newsom might have been a bit harsh with his tweet, but honestly, someone's gotta call Trump out for this 🗣️. The EU has every right to defend itself and Greenland, it's not their problem 🌎. And what's with the Anti-Coercion Instrument? Sounds like something straight out of a spy novel 🕵️‍♂️! Anyway, I'm keeping my eye on this one, it'll be interesting to see how it all plays out 😏.

lol I'm watching this whole thing unfold 🤔 and I gotta say, 70% of Europeans are actually against the tariffs plan lol what a surprise! 🙃 anyway, did you know that the US-EU trade deficit is around $150 billion? That's like, a whole lotta cash being moved between our shores 📈 EU leaders are probs feeling like they're getting fleeced and that's why they're all out for Trump 👎 meanwhile, Trump thinks he can just strong-arm Europe into doing what he wants? 🚫 Newsflash: EU has 27 member states, dude! That's a lot of ppl to please 🤯. And btw, have you seen the chart on EU trade growth over the past decade? It's like, 50% year-over-year growth 📊 I mean, Europe is killing it economically and Trump just wants to disrupt that with his tariffs plan 😒 what's up with that? 🤑

omg u guyz dont even 4get how crazy trump is!!! he thinks he cn just go around n impose tariffs on eu countries cuz they're helpin Denmark with Greenland lol wut a joke 🤣 european leaders r like "nah bruh, ur not gettin away w/ dis" & now they r talkin bout deploying anti coercion instrument aka retaliatin w/ economic hit 💸👊 it's like trump thinks he cn bully eu into submission & europe is all "no way, jose" 😎

lol omg u guys dont 4get how much trump loves his ego 😂 like seriously what kind of leader imposes tariffs on ppl just cuz they support another country?? 🤯 and btw "slavery" lol isnt that a lil dramatic? 😅 europe is like "hey usa chill we got ur back but dont try 2 bully us" 🤝 & france is like "crazy" but honestly who needs that kind of tension? 🙄 california gov gavin newsom tho is lowkey my spirit animal 🤣

I'm kinda surprised Trump would even think of going after EU countries over something like this... it just feels like a big mess 🤯. I mean, what's next? Are they gonna start taxing our Netflix shows or something? 📺 It seems like Europe is standing up for themselves and that's not necessarily a bad thing, right? We should respect their sovereignty and all 😊. But at the same time, I can see why Trump would want to crack down on EU countries - it does feel like they're getting away with too much 💸. Ugh, this whole situation is just really complicated 🤔.

I MEAN COME ON!!! 😱 THE EU IS NOT GONNA JUST SIT BACK AND WATCH TRUMP TRY TO STRIKE DEAL WITH GREENLAND LIKE IT'S SOME KIND OF JOKE!!! 💸 THAT TARIFF PLAN IS CRAZY AND IT'S ONLY GONNA LEAD TO MORE PROBLEMS INSTEAD OF SOLUTIONS. 🤦‍♂️ I FEEL BAD FOR VON DER LEYEN, SHE SEEMS LIKE A REALLY SINCERE PERSON WHO JUST WANTS WHAT'S BEST FOR HER COUNTRY AND THE WORLD AT LARGE. 🌎 BUT SERIOUSLY, THIS IS GETTING OUT OF HAND AND WE NEED TO THINK ABOUT HOW WE CAN FIND A WAY FORWARD THAT WORKS FOR EVERYBODY INSTEAD OF JUST US VS EU. 🤝

🤔 I think this whole thing with Trump's tariffs plan on Greenland is just a huge mess 🚮. Like, what even is the point of imposing tariffs on other countries' trade agreements? It's not like Denmark and Greenland are just going to back down from their claim because of some US tantrum 😒.

And can we talk about how this whole thing is basically making Europe look like they're being bullied by Trump? 🤷‍♀️ I mean, von der Leyen and De Wever aren't exactly known for their diplomatic finesse, but still. It's like they're trying to make a point about not getting pushed around 💁‍♀️.

But seriously, the EU needs to take this thing more seriously than just deploying some fancy policy instrument 🤔. They need to have a concrete strategy in place to push back against US economic coercion and show Trump that they won't be intimidated 😅.

And what's with Gavin Newsom trying to mock his critics? 🙄 Like, come on man, this isn't a joke. The whole world is watching, and it's not like you're going to make Europe look silly by making snide comments about them 🤣.

Anyway, I'm just waiting to see how this thing all plays out 🎭. Will the EU be able to stand up to Trump's tariffs plan, or will they get steamrolled? Only time will tell ⏰.

I'm low-key shocked by Trump's idea 🤯... like, what's next? Tariffs on Mars or something? 😂 It's no joke, though - if Europe takes action, it could get ugly 💸. I mean, Bessent says wait and see, but from where I'm sitting, it looks like the US is playing hardball 🎯. And Macron calling out the EU's plan as "crazy" might not be the most diplomatic move 😂... still, I've got faith in von der Leyen and her team to keep it real 💪. It's time for both sides to chill and talk this out, or we'll all end up losing 🤝.

OMG u guyz this is getting crazy! Trump thinks he can just impose tariffs on Europe like that? 🤯♂️🚫 Newsom basically roasted him in front of the whole world 🤣, meanwhile Von der Leyen is all about standing up to Trump's economic coercion 💪. I'm low-key impressed by EU's response tho, deploying Anti-Coercion Instrument sounds like a solid move 📈. But, let's be real, this whole thing is just a huge mess 😩. Can't we all just get along? 🤗

Man, this whole Greenland thing is just crazy 😂💥. I mean, Trump thinks he can just impose tariffs on all these countries and they'll be like "oh okay, thanks for the slap in the face"? It's like, come on dude 🙄. And now Europe's all like "hold up, we're not having it" and the EU is like "we're gonna fight back" 💪.

I gotta say, I'm kinda impressed by von der Leyen's sass 😎. The guy straight-up called Trump's plan a mistake and warned that if he goes through with it, Europe will be forced into some kind of economic slavery 🤯. And De Wever just basically said the US would be making Europeans do what they want, which is not cool 👎.

But at the same time, I feel bad for Gavin Newsom 🤷‍♂️. He's trying to defend Trump and his critics come off as a bit whiny 🙄. And Scott Bessent is just like "wait it out, guys" but that's not gonna fly in this situation 📉.

Anyway, this whole thing has got me wondering if the US and Europe can ever get along 😔. It feels like they're at this big ol' crossroads and they gotta figure out which path to take 💭. Only time will tell, I guess 🕰️.

omg u gotta think about this 🤯 like whats the big deal? us wants to protect our interests in greenland but europe all bent outta shape 🙄 eu leaders r just trying 2 deflect attention from their own failures 🤷‍♂️ theyre more worried bout losing power than supporting trump 💪 scott bessent is right tho we shdnt jump into anything without thinking it thru 👊

😬 The EU is totally right to take a stand against Trump's crazy idea 🙄! I mean, imposing tariffs on entire countries just because they support another country's claim? That's like economic bullying 😤. And the "slavery" comment from Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever? Ouch, that was some serious shade 🔥. But you know what's even more concerning? The fact that some European leaders are actually taking Trump's bait and trying to avoid conflict by waiting for things to play out 🤦‍♂️. Like, no, guys! If we don't stand up for ourselves now, we'll never get a seat at the negotiating table 🚪. The EU needs to show some spine and fight back against this kind of economic intimidation 💪. We can't let Trump's tantrums dictate our foreign policy 🙅‍♂️.

I'm not surprised by this 🙄, Trump's always good at stirring up drama & controversy... I mean, who else is gonna take on an entire continent of countries over a tiny island like Greenland? 😂 And now they're threatening tariffs? Like, what's next? World War III? 🤯 The EU is right to stand firm, but it's clear that Trump's not interested in diplomacy or finding common ground... he just wants to flex his muscles & show off. Meanwhile, we're all just left wondering if anyone's actually listening to each other, or if this is all just a big game of chicken 🐓.
