TV tonight: screen stars celebrate the wild genius of Richard Burton

Tonight's TV highlights see a tribute to the life and times of the late Richard Burton, Welsh actor and Hollywood legend. Matthew Rhys, Michael Sheen and Iwan Rheon join the centenary celebrations of his life, with Sally Burton and Kate Burton sharing personal stories about their father. The film also delves into his two divorces from Elizabeth Taylor and his rapid rise to fame in Hollywood.

Later on BBC One, a new episode of Shetland airs at 9pm, as Detective Inspector Jimmy Perez investigates the murder in the isolated hamlet of Lunniswick. The list of potential suspects is short, but it's a complex case that requires all of Calder's ingenuity to unravel.

If you're not keen on drama or crime, tonight offers an alternative with A League of Their Own and Battle of the Irish Dancers. Romesh Ranganathan hosts a sports quiz featuring Wayne Rooney, Maya Jama and Alex Brooker, while a new series of Battle of the Irish Dancers showcases intense competitions from around the world.

Other TV options include The Hunting Party, where a psychiatrist is on the run from the FBI, and two Christmas movies, A Merry Little Ex-Mas and Freakier Friday.

🎬 I think it's so cool that they're doing a tribute to Richard Burton tonight 🕰️, he was such an iconic actor, and it's awesome that they got his daughters Sally and Kate sharing their stories about him 👵♀️. You know what's wild? He had two marriages to Elizabeth Taylor - talk about being in the spotlight! 💫 It's also really interesting how the film explores his rise to fame in Hollywood... I feel like we've forgotten so much about the early days of movie stars, you know? 🎥

I'm thinking that BBC One's Shetland is such a great show 🤔. I love how they weave complex cases with intricate character development. It's like being part of the investigation, trying to piece together all the clues. And Matthew Lewis plays Detective Inspector Jimmy Perez so well 😊.

I'm wondering what's the deal with all these old-school actors getting tributes on telly? Like, Richard Burton was legendary and all, but I feel like we're missing out on some new talent 😒. Are they not making any good movies or shows nowadays?

And omg, a new episode of Shetland sounds so intriguing! I love crime dramas, especially ones that have lots of twists and turns 🤔. Who's the detective in this one? Is he as cool as Inspector Morse from years ago 😎?

I'm also kinda curious about the A League of Their Own sports quiz thingy... is it just a bunch of guys talking about sports or is there some actual competition going on? 🏆 Do they have any female competitors? I wanna see Maya Jama in action 💪

OMG u guys! 🤯 I'm so down 4 watchin that tribute to Richard Burton tonight! 🎬 He's such an iconic actor & it'll be dope seein Matthew Rhys, Michael Sheen & Iwan Rheon payin tribute 2 him. 🙌 But on the other hand, A League of Their Own looks like a blast! 🏀 Romesh Ranganathan hostin a sports quiz w/ Wayne Rooney, Maya Jama & Alex Brooker? 🤓 That's gonna be so much fun! 😆 And Battle of the Irish Dancers? 🎉 I love dance battles! 💃 Can't wait 2 see which dancers will take home the trophy! 👏

u know what's really frustrating?? that richard burton got such an amazing tribute but what about all the talented actors from wales who are still struggling to get recognition ??? like iwan rheon, he was in Game of Thrones & did a great job as ryan freeman but no major award for him yet 🤔 meanwhile Matthew Rhys is getting all these awards 🏆... just saying

think they're gonna make richard burton's life sound super exciting just 'cause it's a celeb drama... meanwhile, i'm over here wondering if all these old vids they're playing are even edited properly... or is it just another case of "we can do anything with computers now" and we'll just rehash the same stuff.
