Ukrainian and US officials meet in Florida to discuss proposals to end Russia's war

US Officials Meet with Ukrainian Delegation in Florida to Discuss Ceasefire Plan Amid Ongoing Conflict.

Washington has been engaged in secret talks with Ukraine over the past week, led by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of former President Donald Trump. The discussions took place at a private club in Florida, where the Ukrainian delegation was represented by top officials including Rustem Umerov, head of Ukraine's national security and defense council.

Ukraine is facing increasing pressure from Washington to agree to the terms of a ceasefire plan while it continues to suffer under a devastating war with Russia. The war has resulted in significant losses for Ukraine, including thousands of fatalities and widespread destruction of its infrastructure.

The US-led talks come as tensions between Moscow and Kyiv remain high, with the two sides still far apart on key issues such as territorial control and security guarantees.

In a statement after the meeting, Rubio said that "the end goal is not just to end the war but also to secure an end of the war that leaves Ukraine sovereign and independent." He added that while progress has been made in negotiations, more work remains to be done.

Umerov described the talks as "steps toward achieving a just peace" and expressed gratitude for US support. However, sources close to the Ukrainian delegation have told AFP that the talks were not easy and that finding common ground will require continued efforts.

The latest ceasefire plan developed by Washington has been revised substantially since previous talks in Switzerland. Kyiv and its European partners say the existing frontline must be the starting point for territorial discussions, while Moscow wants to see a recognition of land seized by Russia militarily.

The French president Emmanuel Macron is also set to meet with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday, amid growing calls from EU leaders for more concrete action to support Kyiv.

Florida clubs got some serious diplomatic cred πŸ’ΌπŸŒ΄. US and Ukraine just chillin' at a private club talkin' peace 😎. Rubio's all about sovereign Ukraine, while Moscow wants control 🀝. Can't wait to see what Macron brings to the table πŸ€”

Im not sure if its gonna work but they gotta try lol πŸ€”... seriously though, its like the world is watching and waiting to see what happens next in this conflict. The US has been trying to broker a ceasefire for ages now, and it feels like they're running out of options πŸ•°οΈ. The thing is, the terms of the ceasefire are super sensitive, especially when it comes to territorial control. Moscow wants some major concessions, but Kyiv ain't giving up much... I don't know what the magic number is gonna be 😬.

And then there's the EU getting involved - they're like the ultimate peacemakers πŸ™. Macron meeting with Zelenskyy on Monday sounds serious, though. Can't wait to see how that goes down πŸ’₯. The thing is, these talks are all about finding common ground... but what if there ain't enough? 😳

What do you guys think's the way outta this mess πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ? Should Kyiv just agree to anything at this point or hold out for more?

man, i'm kinda heartened by these secret talks btw 🀞, like, we all know the situation in ukraine is super dire, but maybe this US-led effort can actually lead to some progress? i mean, Marco Rubio and co are really pushing for a ceasefire plan that prioritizes ukraine's sovereignty - that's not gonna be easy tho 😬. but if anyone can make it happen, it's those US diplomats, right?

also, it's cool to see Ukraine getting support from europe too 🀝, like the EU is finally taking this more seriously and stuff. Volodymyr Zelenskyy's gonna meet with emmanuel macron on monday, so fingers crossed for that too!

Man... it feels like I'm back in the Y2K era when we were all hoping for world peace πŸŒŽπŸ’–... but then again, is this really different? The US and Russia going back and forth with Ukraine on a ceasefire plan... it's just another version of the same thing that was happening 20 years ago. Marco Rubio talking about securing an end to the war that leaves Ukraine sovereign and independent... sounds like something George W. Bush would've said πŸ™„... but I guess progress is progress, right?

I mean, have we really seen any change in the way things are done? The French president meeting with Zelenskyy this week... it's just more of the same diplomatic back-and-forth that doesn't always get us what we want. And let's not forget the EU leaders calling for more action to support Kyiv... sounds like a bunch of politicians talking without making any real moves πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ... anyway, I guess only time will tell if this meeting actually leads somewhere... Fingers crossed 🀞

Its a tough situation in Ukraine πŸ€•... I think we should focus on finding that common ground between Russia and Ukraine βš–οΈ... Its all about the ceasefire plan, but also about making sure Ukraine can be independent and not get taken over by Russia πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦... The US is doing their part, but we need to keep the pressure on both sides to make it work πŸ’ͺ... And hey, maybe if the French president comes in with some strong words, it might help shift things around πŸ”₯... But at the end of the day, its all about finding that just peace for everyone involved πŸ™

Wow πŸ˜…, seems like the US is really serious about finding a solution to this conflict in Ukraine 🀞. I mean, Marco Rubio and Jared Kushner are talking to Rustem Umerov, which is big πŸ‘Š. But, at the same time, it's not looking good πŸ’”, with both sides still having major differences on territorial control and security guarantees πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. Still, some progress has been made, so fingers crossed for Ukraine βš”οΈ. Maybe Emmanuel Macron can bring some fresh ideas to the table, who knows? πŸ€”

πŸ€” I'm not sure how much trust they can put in these talks, you know? Like, the US has been trying to help Ukraine out for ages, but what's really going on? Are we just setting them up for another failure? 🚫 And what about Russia's demands? Are we gonna have to give 'em everything they want just to keep Ukraine alive? 🀯 It feels like we're walking into a trap here. The French are already stepping in, and I think that's what matters most – not the US or Russia, but the EU as a whole. They seem more united on this issue than anyone else. πŸ’ͺ What do you think, mate?

I think we're getting ahead of ourselves here πŸ€”... the US and Russia are never gonna see eye-to-eye on this whole territorial control thing. And let's be real, Ukraine's not exactly in a strong position to negotiate with Moscow right now. I mean, thousands of fatalities and widespread destruction? That's some serious emotional baggage πŸ’”.

We need to stop putting all our eggs in one basket when it comes to foreign policy πŸ“ˆ. The West is already pouring billions into Ukraine; what if that doesn't even make a difference on the ground? Maybe we should be focusing more on economic sanctions and less on diplomatic talks... but then again, that could just escalate things further 😬.

It's always easy to say "security guarantees" when you're not the one living in a war zone πŸŒͺ️. The US is gonna have to do better than just talk about ending the war; they need to be willing to put their money where their mouth is πŸ’Έ.

I'm keeping an eye on this whole situation and I gotta say, it's getting intense 🀯. I feel bad for the people of Ukraine, living under such uncertainty and violence. It's crazy that the talks are happening in secret, like they're not even sure if the other side is gonna show up πŸ˜’.

I'm all for finding a way to bring peace, but the US needs to be careful about getting involved too much. They need to listen to both sides and find a solution that works for everyone, not just Ukraine 🀝. It's great that Russia wants some recognition of what they've "seized" militarily, but come on, it's like they're asking them to give back something that doesn't belong to them πŸ˜’.

The French president meeting with Zelenskyy is a good move, though. More countries need to step up and support Ukraine in this crisis πŸ™Œ. I just hope the talks don't stall again πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ.

the situation in ukraine is getting more and more complicated 🀯 it feels like they're stuck between a rock and a hard place, you know? washington's trying to push for a ceasefire but kyiv wants to make sure that their sovereignty isn't compromised in the process πŸ€” meanwhile, russia's not budging on some of the key issues, like territorial control, which is just making things even more tense πŸ’₯

i think what rubio said about securing an end to the war that leaves ukraine sovereign and independent is a good starting point, but we'll see how it all plays out 🀞 i mean, finding common ground is hard enough when you're talking to people who aren't trying to destroy each other's cities, but in this case, there's just so much at stake πŸ’Έ

anyway, the fact that france is stepping in with a meeting between macron and zelenskyy is definitely a positive sign 🌟 it shows that more countries are recognizing the gravity of the situation and wanting to help kyiv out of this mess 🀝 but we'll have to wait and see if it's enough to make a real difference

I'm getting old and I remember when the world was so much simpler πŸ˜”. Now it seems like everyone's talking about war all the time 🀯. I mean, what's wrong with a good ol' fashioned face-to-face meeting? Can't they just sit down and talk things through like my grandparents used to do back in their day πŸ’Ό? These secret talks in Florida seem like a nice gesture, but is it really enough? I guess only time will tell πŸ•°οΈ. The French president showing up too, that's interesting... maybe someone's finally willing to lend a helping hand πŸ‘‹. But the US and Russia, they just can't seem to get along, no matter how hard they try πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. It's like they're stuck in some kind of never-ending video game level 😩. Anyway, I hope it all works out for Ukraine... they deserve a break from all this fighting πŸ’”.

😊 I'm like "Yaaas, Marco Rubio! 🀩" I mean, finally some progress in those talks with Ukraine, right? πŸ’– The US is putting in so much effort and resources into finding a solution that works for everyone. It's not just about saving lives and stuff (although, let's be real, that's super important too 😊), but also about giving Ukraine the independence and sovereignty they deserve 🌟 I'm all about supporting our Ukrainian fam πŸ’ͺ! And can we talk about how cool is it that Jared Kushner is involved in these talks? 🀯 Family connections, am I right? πŸ˜‰

🀞 I'm keeping my fingers crossed that those talks in Florida will lead to a real breakthrough! It's been such a long and brutal conflict already... πŸ•ŠοΈ Ukraine needs our support now more than ever, and it's awesome to see US officials putting in the effort to find a solution. πŸ’ͺ It's not gonna be easy, I know, but if we all keep cheering each other on, maybe we can finally get that ceasefire and help Ukraine rebuild what's been lost πŸŒˆπŸ’•

πŸ€” This whole thing just feels off, you know? Like they're trying to control the narrative and push their agenda without anyone really paying attention. I mean, Rubio's statement about Ukraine being "sovereign and independent" sounds great on paper, but what does that really mean in practice? πŸ€‘ Is it just a way for the US to maintain its influence over Ukraine?

And let's not forget about Kushner being involved in these talks - his family ties to Trump are definitely a conflict of interest. What if he's using this platform to push his own agenda instead of serving the interests of Ukraine? 🀝 The French president meeting with Zelenskyy is just another example of how everyone's trying to get a piece of the pie without really understanding what's going on.

I'm not saying it's all bad, but there are definitely some suspicious moves being made here. I'd need to see more concrete action and transparency before I start trusting these talks. 🚫

πŸ€” I'm still hoping that both sides can find a peaceful solution to this conflict. I mean, thousands of lives are being lost and millions are affected... it's just heartbreaking πŸ™. The US is trying to bring peace to the table, but it's not easy when you're talking about territorial control and security guarantees 🀝. I think Jared Kushner's involvement is a good thing - he's got some experience with negotiations from his dad's connections πŸ’Ό. But at the end of the day, it's all about Ukraine being able to decide its own fate without US interference πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ. I'm also curious to see how Emmanuel Macron's meeting with Zelenskyy goes... maybe it'll bring some fresh ideas to the table πŸ€”. Let's keep our fingers crossed that peace is within reach πŸ’•!

πŸ€” you know what's really interesting about all this? the fact that even when we're trying to negotiate a ceasefire, there's still so much emphasis on sovereignty and independence... it feels like these are just words, you know? like we use them to sound good in our statements, but do we ever stop to think about what it actually means for someone to be free?

i mean, the us is basically telling ukraine that they need to find a way to coexist with russia, but what if that's not an option? what if russia is just going to keep pushing until ukraine cracks under the pressure? and meanwhile, ukraine has already lost so much - thousands of people, destroyed cities... it feels like we're just throwing words around without really considering the impact.

and then there are these talks in florida, where basically the same players from both sides get together to hash things out. but what if that's just a band-aid solution? what if we're just treating the symptoms instead of addressing the underlying issues?

i don't know, maybe i'm just being pessimistic. but it feels like we're stuck in this never-ending cycle of conflict and negotiation... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

πŸ€” I think the US and Ukraine are playing a game of chicken here - they both want the other side to blink first πŸ“. Rubio's "end goal" sounds great, but let's be real, it's Ukraine that's taking the biggest hits on the battlefield πŸ’₯. Have they considered what the actual cost is to Ukraine in terms of lives lost and infrastructure destroyed? It's not like Moscow is going to give up easily either πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Meanwhile, Macron is trying to keep everyone calm on both sides, but I'm not sure even he can sugarcoat this one enough πŸ˜…. The only way forward is for all parties involved to come together and find some real compromise - but that's easier said than done πŸ’”.
