US and Iran to hold nuclear talks in Oman amid Trump's military threats – live

US and Iranian Diplomats to Meet in Oman Amid Tensions Over Nuclear Program

In a bid to ease tensions between Washington and Tehran, diplomats from the US and Iran are set to meet in Muscat, Oman, on Friday. The talks come at a time when the region is bracing for a potential military confrontation between the two powers.

The US has been building up its military presence in the Middle East, including an aircraft carrier strike group, which has raised concerns among Iranian officials. In response, Iran's president Masoud Pezeshkian announced that he had instructed his foreign minister to pursue "fair and equitable negotiations" with the US.

However, it remains unclear whether the talks will cover all contentious issues or focus solely on nuclear program. The US has requested a comprehensive approach, while Iran insists that only nuclear issues should be addressed.

The situation has been further complicated by recent protests in Iran, which have resulted in thousands of deaths. US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran wants to make a deal, saying "If we do make a deal, that's good. If we don't make a deal, we'll see what happens."

Meanwhile, the US military shot down an Iranian Shahed-139 drone after it approached the Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea. Despite claims of self-defense, Iran says the drone was on a surveillance mission.

The Oman talks are seen as a last chance for Tehran to avoid a potential US strike against its leadership and nuclear program. The agenda for the talks remains unclear, but diplomats from both sides are signaling their readiness to negotiate.

In a statement released earlier today, Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said that Iran enters diplomacy with "open eyes and a steady memory of the past year." He also emphasized the need for equal standing, mutual respect, and mutual interest in any agreement.

.. this whole thing is just so confusing 🤯... like, the US and Iran are going to meet in Oman to talk about their differences, but nobody really knows what's gonna happen. Is it just gonna be a chat about nukes? Or are they gonna talk about everything else too?

I don't get why Trump keeps saying that if there's no deal, then... I don't know, something bad will happen 🤔. And what with the drone incident and all these protests in Iran, it feels like things could just go really wrong 🔥. But on the other hand, maybe this meeting is actually a good chance for them to talk things out and find some common ground.

I wish I understood more about all this politics stuff 🤷‍♂️... can someone explain it to me in simple terms? 😊

I'm super skeptical about these talks 🤔. Like, what's the US really hoping to achieve? Just saying they want to ease tensions but it's all about getting that sweet deal on their terms, you feel? 💸 Iran's all like "we're open for negotiations" but I bet they're secretly counting down the minutes until they can make a nuclear bomb 🥁. And what's with the drama over the Shahed-139 drone? Just a fancy excuse to get more attention and propaganda going 🔴. Oman's just trying to stay out of it, bless their hearts 🙏. I'm not holding my breath for these talks to actually do anything 😐.

Ugh 🤦‍♂️, another meet-and-greet between diplomats who are supposed to magically resolve centuries-old tensions over nuclear programs... Meanwhile, I'm waiting for some concrete proof that these talks won't just be a bunch of empty promises 💔. Can we trust these guys? They're setting up shop in Oman, but what's the real goal here? Is it gonna be some watered-down deal or are they actually looking to make some serious concessions? 🤞 Let's not get too excited just yet... 😒

omg this is getting sooo tense 🤯 i dont think anyone knows what's gonna happen next its like they're playing a game of chicken on steroids with thousands of lives at stake the oman talks are literally our last chance to avoid a major disaster im not holding my breath though 😩 we need some serious diplomatic skills and a lot of compromise from both sides because if trump says "we'll see what happens" thats just gonna escalate things big time

Ugh, I'm literally torn about this one... like, on one hand, it's super important for diplomatic relations between two major powers to try and ease tensions before things escalate into a full-blown crisis 🤯. But on the other hand, I'm so skeptical that these talks will actually lead anywhere - I mean, history has shown us time and again that diplomats just like to talk about stuff without ever getting anything done 🙄. And what's with all this "nuclear program" business? Can't they just focus on something more tangible, like trade or economic aid? 💸 But at the same time, I don't want Iran to feel like it's being pushed around by the US - that would be super unfair and could lead to even more violence 🚫. So yeah, I guess what I'm saying is... I have no idea what to think about this 😂.

🤔 so Oman is like the neutral ground right now, i mean they're not taking sides or anything but both countries are gonna come there to talk things out... it's good that they're being diplomatic about this. 🤝 doesn't matter if you agree with what the other person has to say or not, just listening and talking can help de-escalate tensions.

i'm curious to see what happens during these talks tho, is Iran really ready to negotiate on all fronts? 💡 and what's up with Trump saying that if no deal is made then there'll be consequences... it's like, what consequences? 🤔

anyway, i guess this is a step in the right direction for both countries to resolve their differences peacefully. fingers crossed they can actually make some progress 🤞

😐 I'm kinda hoping these talks in Oman actually happen and lead somewhere productive... it's been ages since we've seen any real progress on the nuclear front. 🤞 The fact that Iran is pushing back on their involvement on non-nuclear issues kinda makes sense, tbh - they do have a lot on their plate with those protests and all. 🌹 Still, I'm worried about the whole US military build-up in the region... it feels like we're just escalating things even further. 🚨 Fingers crossed they can get past their differences and find some common ground tho! 🤞

🤔 I'm not convinced these talks are going to make a difference. Like, seriously, how can you just wave your hand and expect Iran to drop all their nuclear concerns? 🙄 The US has been building up its military presence for years and now they're just like "hey let's talk it out" 😒 And what about those thousands of deaths in Iran due to protests? Shouldn't we be focusing on human rights over nukes? 💔

I'm cautiously optimistic about these Oman talks 🤞. It's essential to acknowledge the complexities of the situation and the deep-seated mistrust between the US and Iran. The recent tensions over Iran's nuclear program have escalated the conflict, making a diplomatic breakthrough all the more crucial.

While it's understandable that Iran wants to focus on nuclear issues, I believe that comprehensive negotiations are necessary to address broader concerns about regional security and human rights in Iran. The US needs to demonstrate its commitment to finding a peaceful resolution, rather than resorting to military action 🚫.

Ultimately, the success of these talks hinges on the willingness of both sides to engage in constructive dialogue and compromise. With the Oman setting providing a neutral backdrop, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we'll see some tangible progress towards de-escalation 🔔.

So they're having talks in Oman to try and calm things down between the US and Iran... it's all pretty complicated 🤔. The thing is, both sides have some major grievances against each other - the US thinks Iran is trying to build nuclear weapons, while Iran says it's just for "peaceful purposes". 🙄 And then there's this drone incident where the US shot down an Iranian plane that was flying too close to their ship... not exactly the kind of thing you want to negotiate over 😬. But I guess Oman's a neutral spot and maybe they can finally have a calm conversation about all this 💡.

🌊 Oman's diplomatic efforts are really needed right now 🤞. I'm all for talks between US & Iran, but gotta be careful not to just gloss over other issues like protests & human rights concerns 😕. Trump's words are super vague - if he's saying "we'll see what happens" after a deal isn't made, that doesn't exactly fill me with confidence 🤔. The drone incident was pretty intense... hope both sides can keep their cool during these talks 💥. Oman's got a good rep for neutrality, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed they can facilitate some progress 🌟.

🤔 This whole situation is super complex 🤯. I mean, both sides have valid concerns about each other's intentions 😕. The US wants to address all the issues at once, but Iran's being super clear that only nuclear program is on the table 🚫. And then there's this drone incident... Iran says it was just a surveillance mission, but the US claims self-defense 🚀.

I'm not sure what to expect from these talks in Oman 🤷‍♂️. Both sides are signaling they're ready to negotiate, but we've been here before and nothing has ever really changed 😒. Still, I guess it's worth a shot 💭. Fingers crossed that something positive comes out of this 👍. The region just needs a break from all the tension 🙏.

🤔 the oman talks are kinda interesting but i'm not sure if they'll make much of a difference. i mean, we've seen all these diplomatic efforts fail before 🙅‍♂️. still, it's good that the us and iran are talking again after all the tensions lately. maybe this will be the one that actually leads to something 🤞. but let's not get our hopes up too high just yet... we've been disappointed before 😐. anyway, it'll be interesting to see what comes out of these talks. 👀

🤔 I'm not sure what's more concerning – the fact that we're seeing diplomats from both sides finally sitting down to talk or the lack of clarity on what they'll be discussing. It feels like a lot of hot air has been blown out there, and I worry it might all come crashing down around our ears 🚨.

The US wants a comprehensive approach, but Iran's being stubborn about only addressing nuclear issues. And with Iran's protests still raging, you'd think they'd want to focus on calming the streets rather than negotiating with their enemies 💔.

I do think Oman's got some great diplomatic skills – I mean, who else can host two superpowers and get them to talk? 🤓 Still, this feels like a ticking time bomb. What if these talks fail, and we end up with war on our hands? 😬

🤔 You know what's crazy? These diplomatic talks in Oman... it feels like they're trying to put all these pieces together, but nobody really knows how they're gonna fit together. Both sides got some major issues to work through - the nuclear program, sure, but also this whole military presence thing and the protests in Iran... 🤯

It's like they're saying "Hey, we want a deal!" But what if there's no deal? What then? It's all so uncertain. I'm not trying to be negative, but it feels like they're setting themselves up for a fall. And with Trump at the helm... 😬 I just don't know how this is gonna play out.

I guess only time will tell, right? 🕰️

I'm worried about these talks 😕. Reminds me of when we were negotiating with North Korea back in 2017 🤔. We thought that was a great idea at the time, but it all fell apart 💔. Oman's trying to play peacemaker here, but I've got my doubts 🤷‍♂️. What if they're just buying some time? Remember when we had those talks with Syria after the whole chemical attack incident? 😓 Nothing ever changed, and now look at them again 🤦‍♂️. Can't say I trust either side... 😒

I'm thinking... Oman is like a safe space right now 🙏... can't help but wonder if this meeting will actually lead to something concrete. I mean, we've been down this road before with Iran's nuclear program, remember when the US pulled out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action in 2018? 🤦‍♂️ that didn't end well... and now they're saying "if we don't make a deal, we'll see what happens"? 🚨 doesn't sound very reassuring to me...

I'm also still trying to wrap my head around the whole drone incident. Iran says it was on a surveillance mission, but who knows what's really going on? 🤔 at least the Oman talks are a chance for them to talk things out... fingers crossed they can find some common ground this time 🤞
