VIDEO: Confused deer briefly stops traffic on San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge

A deer's brief, bewildering detour onto San Francisco's iconic Golden Gate Bridge caused a stir among motorists on Friday. Video footage captured by Julian Snellgrove shows the white-tailed deer ambling along the bridge's northbound lanes, seemingly unfazed by the presence of dozens of vehicles idling in traffic.

According to officials, the deer's unexpected appearance prompted a shutdown of the northbound lanes, prompting frustrated commuters to question how the animal ended up on the bridge. While no explanation has been provided for the deer's whereabouts prior to its arrival, it appears that the creature eventually decided to exit the scene, allowing traffic to resume smoothly.

While wildlife encounters are not uncommon in urban areas, such events can still surprise even the most seasoned residents of these regions. For those caught up in the commotion, a brief moment of surrealism on one of the world's most recognizable landmarks – the Golden Gate Bridge – was undoubtedly an unusual experience.

For now, it remains to be seen how this unexpected visitor came to be at the bridge, but for San Francisco motorists, the surprise arrival served as a reminder that even in the heart of the city, wildlife can sometimes be found where least expected.

omg what a wild story 🤯 like wut r the deers fave road tho?! did it get lost on its way 2 the zoo or smthn? i wonder if it was trying 2 escape some predator or somethin 🦌🌉 anywayz, at least its cute and didnt cause too much damage lol. but i gotta ask, has anyone seen this deer again? 🐰😂

🐰😂 just when you think you know what's gonna happen on the Golden Gate Bridge, nature throws a deer into the mix... I mean, who needs cable cars when you've got a furry roadrunner? Seriously though, what were the chances it was gonna be a deer day on the bridge? Either way, at least no one got hurt (besides maybe their sense of humor). It's like San Francisco decided to put on a wildlife show just for us 🎬. Who needs Google Maps when you've got a white-tailed deer GPS system?

I'm low-key impressed by that deer's chill vibes 🤷‍♂️... I mean, who needs an adventure when you've got the whole Golden Gate Bridge to yourself? It's like something straight outta a Wild West movie, but instead of horses, it's a deer with a taste for freedom 🌄. And can you imagine being on that bridge during rush hour and suddenly seeing this majestic creature just roaming around? 😲 That'd be some crazy story to tell, right? I'm pretty sure my grandpa would've been like "back in my day, we didn't have all these deer running around the city... we had to deal with actual wildlife!" 🙄

OMG 🤯 what is up with deer these days?! Can't even step foot on Golden Gate Bridge without getting spotted by cameras lol 📸 I mean, like, isn't it just a bridge now? Don't get me wrong, I love the wildlife and all but come on... San Francisco is supposed to be urban, not some Wild West safari 🌳. Anyway, gotta feel for the poor commuters who got stuck in traffic... I was literally running late for work today and this happens 🕰️😩. Guess it's just one of those weird SF moments that you'll never forget 👀.

omg what is up with these deer on the golden gate bridge?? 🦌🤯 I mean I know they're supposed to live in the wild and all but come on! you'd think they'd stick to the woods not wander onto the highway. i'm glad no one was hurt or anything, but seriously how does this happen? 🚗😂
