Nairobi, Kenya - hundreds of thousands are struggling to survive in the drought-stricken regions of northern Kenya. For three consecutive seasons, the arid land has failed to yield the fertile soil that's essential for livestock farming and sustenance.
Mandera County is no exception, where entire communities are on the brink of disaster. Their livelihoods depend on the quality of their grazing lands, which have dwindled away due to persistent drought.
Locals told Al Jazeera that the effects of this severe drought have been devastating, with many livestock having perished and farmers struggling to grow food. "We're running out of options," said a local farmer. "If we don't get some rains soon, our entire farm will be ruined."
In order to prevent further collapse, residents are pleading for help from authorities. Al Jazeera spoke to Haru Mutasa who reported that "communities have been facing an emergency situation."
