the whole idea of using AI in hospitals is really concerning me

i mean, don't get me wrong, it's great that medical assistants are using tools to help diagnose and treat patients faster, but what if the algorithms used are biased against certain communities? like, studies have shown that AI-powered tools can underdiagnose patients who have medicaid insurance or come from black or latinx backgrounds... that's just not okay
and it's even more alarming when you think about how many low-income patients already face barriers to healthcare in the first place. they need human healthcare providers who listen to them, not some algorithm that might misdiagnose their conditions or ignore their symptoms altogether
i also don't like that patients are often not informed about AI's involvement in their care... it's like, shouldn't we be more transparent about how our health is being treated? shouldn't patients have a say in the decisions made by their healthcare providers?
anyway, i think we need to prioritize patient-centered care over AI-powered systems that might disempower low-income patients. we need to make sure that healthcare providers listen to patients' unique needs and priorities, not some algorithm that's only concerned with efficiency or profit
