White Sox bring back Erick Fedde to compete for spot in rotation

White Sox Get Erick Fedde Back, Will He Make the Rotation?

The Chicago White Sox have reacquired right-hander Erick Fedde to compete for a spot in their starting rotation. The move comes ahead of pitchers' and catchers' official reporting date for spring training.

Fedde, 32, had a standout season in 2024 with the Sox, going 7-4 with a 3.11 ERA in 21 starts. He was a rare bright spot on a team that lost a record 121 games. The right-hander led the team with 4.6 wins above replacement and has a fastball that tops out at 93 mph.

Fedde's time with the Cardinals last season was marked by inconsistency, as he posted a 4-13 record and a 5.49 ERA in 24 starts and eight relief appearances. However, he showed flashes of his former form late in the season, holding batters to a .186 average in 16 innings out of the bullpen.

The Sox have already signed several other pitchers to compete for spots in the rotation, including Shane Smith, Davis Martin, Anthony Kay, Sean Newcomb, Jonathan Cannon, and Sean Burke. The team will sit down with each pitcher early in spring training to discuss their goals and possibilities for the season.

Fedde's return to the Sox is seen as a way to bring back some much-needed experience and talent to the rotation. With manager Will Venable and first-year pitching coach Zach Bove at the helm, Fedde figures to be back in the starting mix come opening day.

omg i'm super hyped about erick fedde comin back to chicago!! 🀩 he had an amazing 2024 season with a 3.11 era and 4.6 wins above replacement - that's some crazy stats! πŸ”₯ i know he had inconsistency issues last season, but it sounds like the sox are tryna bring out his best form again. manager will venue and new pitching coach zach bove seem to think he's got a shot at makin' the rotation, and that's super encouraging πŸ™Œ the more talent they get in there, the better their chances of turnin around that 121 loss record from last year 🀞

omg i'm so down for this move πŸ˜‚ fedde's 2024 season was fire! 🀩 he had that one bad stretch with cardinals but we all know he's got it in him πŸ”₯ and now he gets to come back home to chicago πŸŒ†, plus the rotation is gonna be SO much deeper πŸ’ͺ i think shane smith is a great addition too πŸ‘ but lets be real fedde's experience is gonna give him an edge over everyone else 😎 can't wait for spring training ⏰

so the White Sox are trying to turn over a new leaf... or should I say, a new ERA? lol, seriously though, it's great that they're bringing Erick Fedde back - he was a bright spot last year and I'm excited to see him in action again! 3.11 ERA is no joke, dude! But, let's be real, the team still lost like 121 games... talk about a slump! Shane Smith and Davis Martin are also looking fierce, so it'll be interesting to see who makes the cut. I'm rooting for Fedde, though - he's got that 93mph fastball going on, bro! Maybe this is the year they make some noise in the rotation...

I'm low-key hyped about Erick Fedde's return to the White Sox 🀩. He was a beast in 2024 and I'm curious to see how he'll bounce back from his inconsistency last season with the Cardinals. With all these new faces in the rotation, it's gonna be interesting to see who gets the nod on opening day πŸ”„. But honestly, if Fedde can bring that same level of talent and experience to the table, it'd be a major win for the team πŸ’ͺ. The fact that they're giving him a second chance says a lot about Venable's trust in his skills πŸ™. Fingers crossed he stays healthy and slays the season πŸ”₯!

I'm so hyped about Erick Fedde coming back to the White Sox 🀩! I mean, the dude had a sick season last year with 7-4 record and 3.11 ERA - that's crazy for a guy who was stuck in the bullpen mid-season πŸ˜‚. And let's be real, he's got some serious heat on that fastball, clocking in at 93 mph πŸ”₯! With Shane Smith, Davis Martin, Anthony Kay, Sean Newcomb, Jonathan Cannon, and Sean Burke all vying for spots, it's gonna be tough to crack the rotation πŸ€”. But with Venable and Bove at the helm, I got a feelin' Fedde is gonna bring that fire πŸ’₯ and show us what he's really capable of! Can't wait to see him in action come April πŸ’ͺ

idk why they're bringing him back tho πŸ€” like he had a pretty bad season last year? and now they're gonna sit down with all these other pitchers too πŸ“ it's gonna be super competitive for a spot in the rotation 😬 i mean, Fedde was good 2 yrs ago but can he do that again? ⚾️ maybe the experience will help him out tho πŸ’‘

I'm so stoked that the White Sox are bringin' Erick Fedde back 🀩! I mean, dude was on fire last season with a 3.11 ERA and 4.6 wins above replacement - that's some top-notch stuff, son! And let's be real, he's got that nasty fastball, too 😎. I'm lovin' the move to bring him back in hopes of gettin' some much-needed experience and talent in the rotation. The Sox had a tough season last year, but with Fedde on board, maybe they can turn it around this time around πŸ”„. And let me tell you, manager Will Venable and pitching coach Zach Bove are gonna have to be doin' somethin' right if they wanna keep him in the mix...

the white sox are trying to make up for last season's disaster by reacquiring erick fedde but let's not get our hopes up πŸ€• he had a decent year with them last time but it was nothing special and now they're gonna throw him into the deep end with shane smith and davis martin competing for spots... Fedde can't keep his form from waning in the clutch, remember when he bombed with the cardinals last season? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

so fedde's coming back for another crack at it πŸ€” guess he's gonna try to recapture that magic from last year? idk if he can string together a whole season without having one of those clunker starts 🚫 but hey, the sox need all the help they can get. shane smith and martin are alright i guess, but fedde's got that polish that'll set him apart. hope he doesn't ride anyone's coattails like last year 😏

im lowkey hyped about Erick Fedde coming back to chicago 🀩 i mean we all saw what he was capable of last season, 7-4 with a 3.11 era is crazy for a guy who was basically traded away mid-season πŸ€‘ and now shane smith and the rest are trying to fill his shoes? lol good luck with that πŸ˜‚ Fedde's return gives the sox some much-needed insurance in the rotation, i'm thinking he'll be back in the 5th spot by opening day ⚾️ stats-wise fedde is still a top 20 pitcher in the league, but injuries have been holding him back for years πŸ€• hopefully this is the year he stays healthy and proves it 😊

so it looks like the White Sox are trying to rebuild their rotation with all these new guys coming in, but they're also trying to bring back one of the few decent pitchers from last season... Erick Fedde, he's got some serious stuff, that 93mph fastball is insane 🀯. if he can get his head right and stay consistent, I think he could be a real asset for the team this year. plus, with Venable and Bove at the helm, it looks like they've got a solid game plan in place to help guys reach their potential. but we'll have to see how it all plays out come opening day...

I'm kinda hyped about Erick Fedde comin' back to the Sox πŸ€”. He was a beast last season, and if he can get his form together again, he's got a real shot at makin' that rotation πŸ”₯. The fact that they signed so many other pitchers too means there's some serious competition goin' on, but I think Fedde's experience is exactly what the team needs right now πŸ™. Venable and Bove are doin' their thing, and if anyone can get the most outta Fedde, it's 'em πŸ’ͺ. Still gotta see how it all plays out in spring training, but I'm feelin' optimistic about this one 😊.

I'm loving this move by the White Sox! They need that stability in the rotation and Fedde's return is a great addition πŸ™Œ. He was on fire last season and showed he can bring that level of performance consistently. The fact that they've already signed other guys to compete for spots means everyone has a chance to prove themselves, which is awesome πŸ‘. With Venable and Bove at the helm, I think Fedde's got a real shot at making the rotation out of spring training 🌞. And let's be real, who wouldn't want him on their team? The guy's got 93 mph fastballs πŸ’ͺ!

omg, i'm so curious about erick fedde πŸ€”... he had such a great season with us last year πŸ™Œ, but his time with the cardinals was kinda meh 😐... like, what changed? was it just a case of inconsistency or is there something more to it? and now he's back with us again πŸ’ͺ... does that mean we'll see the old fedde magic return? 🎩 and i'm so down for him competing against those other pitchers in spring training πŸ’₯... shane smith, davis martin, anthony kay... who do you think has a shot at making the rotation? πŸ€”

πŸ€” I'm not sure if Erick Fedde is the answer for the White Sox rotation yet... They're adding him to a bunch of other pitchers trying to make the cut 🀝. Shane Smith and Davis Martin already signed, plus Sean Newcomb and Jonathan Cannon... it's gonna be tough for guys like Anthony Kay and Sean Burke to crack the code πŸ”’. Fedde had a solid season last year but was inconsistent with the Cardinals πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. The question is, can he replicate that performance in Chicago? πŸ’ͺ
