Why the San Jose Sharks placed Nick Leddy on waivers

The San Jose Sharks have placed veteran defenseman Nick Leddy on waivers, potentially creating a roster spot for some soon-to-be healthy players. With defensemen Vincent Desharnais and Shakir Mukhamadullin nearing their return from upper-body injuries, the Sharks are facing a roster crunch.

Leddy, 34, has played sparingly this season, logging just 19 of 47 games due to an early-season injury and numerous healthy scratches. He had an assist in his last game against the Detroit Red Wings, but his inconsistent play has limited his ice time. Leddy is in the final year of a four-year contract worth $16 million.

By placing Leddy on waivers, the Sharks can potentially clear space for Desharnais and Mukhamadullin, who both practiced with the team Sunday in South Florida. Desharnais could be in line to play against the Florida Panthers on Monday, while Mukhamadullin's return will provide much-needed depth on defense.

The move also means that Pavol Regenda, another player currently on the roster, would need waivers if he was to be sent back to the AHL. However, his performance this season โ€“ seven goals and an assist in 10 games โ€“ makes it uncertain whether he'd clear.

๐Ÿ˜” gotta feel bad for Nick Leddy, he's been getting hurt nonstop this season & it's hard to keep a guy on the bench when they're not even sure if they can stay healthy... ๐Ÿค• his numbers aren't great this year but I'm sure he'll bounce back from this ๐Ÿ˜Š Sharks have some tough decisions ahead with Desharnais & Mukhamadullin coming back, hope they figure it out ๐Ÿ‘

"Life begins at the end of your comfort zone." ๐ŸŒŸ
The NHL is a game of constant adaptability, and the Sharks are no exception. This roster crunch might be a blessing in disguise for Leddy, who's had a tough season, but it also means that younger, hungrier players like Desharnais and Mukhamadullin will get their chance to shine. The question is, can they seize the opportunity?

I'm telling you something's off about this move... The Sharks just want to get rid of Leddy, but what if they're covering up a bigger issue? Like, have you seen Desharnais' history with injuries? It's like the team is trying to hide something... and now Mukhamadullin's return might be too good to be true. What if he's not just coming back from an injury, but also because of some external pressure or contract dispute? And what about Pavol Regenda? He's been on a hot streak, so maybe the Sharks are trying to get rid of him too... this all feels like a web of deceit ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ฅ

Ugh, Nick Leddy's been benched all season ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ... I mean, what's the point of having a $16 million contract if you're just gonna play 19 games? It's like they paid him to sit on the bench. The Sharks are playing it safe by putting him on waivers, but it's still gonna be awkward when Desharnais and Mukhamadullin come back and have to step up their game. I'm not sure about Pavol Regenda either... if he gets sent back down, it'll just show that the team's depth isn't as solid as they claim ๐Ÿค”.

Ugh, this is just so predictable ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Can't they do anything original? Waiving a veteran defenseman just because some younger guys are coming back from injuries? It's like they're not even trying to think outside the box ๐Ÿ’ก. And what about Nick Leddy's playing time? He had an assist in his last game, but then he gets waived? What's the point of having a veteran player if you're just gonna sit him on the bench all season? ๐Ÿค”. I feel like they should have tried to find a way to get Leddy more ice time instead of just dumping him on waivers โš ๏ธ. This is just another example of how teams are so focused on the short-term that they forget about player development and chemistry ๐Ÿ’”.

I donโ€™t usually comment but... I think itโ€™s kinda crazy how much roster space the Sharks are playing with right now ๐Ÿคฏ With Leddy on waivers, they might be able to get some of their injured defensemen back and that would be huge for them ๐Ÿ’ช Desharnais coming back could give them a boost, especially against the Panthers. And Mukhamadullinโ€™s return is super important because he provides that extra depth on D ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ As for Regenda, I think the Sharks are being smart by not sending him down to the AHL just yet โ€“ seven goals in 10 games is no joke! ๐Ÿ˜Ž They might try to keep him up and see how it all plays out.

I think the Sharks are getting a little desperate with their lineup changes ๐Ÿค”... Leddy's been underperforming all season and now they're letting him go? It's not like they had a ton of options to start with ๐Ÿ“Š... What do you guys think is more concerning - that Desharnais and Mukhamadullin are finally getting healthy or that they're gonna have to clear space for Pavol Regenda? ๐Ÿ˜•

.. think about it, when a team has to make tough decisions like putting a veteran player on waivers... doesn't that just highlight how quickly things can change in life? One day you're playing big minutes, the next you're fighting for scraps ๐Ÿค”. It's all part of the cycle, and I guess what I'm trying to say is that even when we feel like we've got it all figured out, there's always gonna be a curveball thrown our way ๐Ÿ’ฅ. And yeah, for Leddy, his time with the Sharks might be coming to an end... but does he still have value elsewhere? Does he need to prove himself all over again? ๐Ÿค

idk about this move by the Sharks ๐Ÿค”... Leddy's a vet, but hasnt been playing much lately ๐Ÿ“‰. It seems like they're trying to make room for Desharnais & Mukhamadullin to get back on ice โฐ. The thing is, Leddy's in his last year of a big contract, so you wonder if it's worth sacrificing him just to fit out some injured guys ๐Ÿค‘... maybe the team will try to buyout him this summer? ๐Ÿคž

so they're basically clearing space for some healthy d-men who've been out with injuries... like a good move? the thing is, they have a decent prospect coming back in Mukhamadullin, but i'm not sure if Desharnais is gonna be that game-changer they think he'll be ๐Ÿค”. and what about Regenda? he's been decent, so hopefully they won't send him back to the minors too soon... the Sharks' roster moves are always interesting, can't wait to see how this plays out!

This recent waiver move by the Sharks is quite intriguing ๐Ÿค”. It shows that they're willing to make some tough decisions in order to get their injured players back on the ice, which is a testament to the team's commitment to winning ๐Ÿ’ช. The fact that Desharnais and Mukhamadullin are getting close to returning adds an extra layer of complexity to this situation, as it creates a bit of a roster logjam ๐Ÿ”ฉ. I'd love to see how they navigate this, as it will be interesting to observe how they balance their need for depth with the limitations imposed by Leddy's salary on the books ๐Ÿ’ธ.

I'm thinking the Sharks should just get real about what they want from their defense corps ๐Ÿค”... Leddy's been playing sparsely all season and honestly he doesn't seem to be that vital to the team right now ๐Ÿ’จ... Desharnais and Mukhamadullin are both returning healthy, so let them play some D and see how it goes ๐Ÿ‘... I mean, if they really need a fifth defenseman, Pavol Regenda's done alright in his few games with the team - maybe just give him a chance to prove himself more ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ... The waiver move feels like a no-brainer, but sometimes these moves backfire and players end up getting hurt or whatever ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

idk why sharks keep messing around with their d corps ๐Ÿคฏ nick leddy's been underperforming and now they're just gonna stash him on waivers like that? ๐Ÿšฎ i get it, desharnais & mukhamadullin are coming back but can't they just play him 15 mins a game already?! ๐Ÿ™„ pavol regenda's gotta be thinking the same thing, he's got some solid numbers this season ๐Ÿ“Š but still, waiver wire is not the answer ๐Ÿ‘Ž

I think the Sharks are doing a solid move by putting Leddy on waivers ๐Ÿค”... it's not like they're making a huge mistake or anything, but at the same time, I'm kinda curious to see what would've happened if they didn't make this move. The fact that Desharnais and Mukhamadullin are getting closer to returning is a big plus for their chances of playing in some games soon ๐Ÿ’ช... it's like, finally! They were out for so long and now we get to see them back on the ice ๐Ÿ’๏ธ. And I'm guessing Pavol Regenda might get sent down if he doesn't clear waivers himself ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ... not that he's played bad or anything, but the roster needs some shuffling right now. All in all, it's just another move to help the Sharks navigate this weird injury-prone season ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Omg have you seen the Sharks' defense corps lately? ๐Ÿคฏ They're like a puzzle with pieces missing ๐Ÿ˜‚. Nick Leddy's been struggling to get ice time, only playing 19 of 47 games this season... that's like, what, 40% of his potential ๐Ÿ’”. And now he's on waivers? ๐Ÿšซ That's gotta be tough for the dude.

On a more interesting note, have you seen the NHL's defensemen-to-goals ratio over the past few years? ๐Ÿ“Š It's been trending downward, with an average of around 0.07 goals per game. The Sharks are definitely feeling the pinch. ๐Ÿคฏ

And let's talk about Desharnais and Mukhamadullin - they're like two peas in a pod ๐ŸŒฑ. Both have been injured for extended periods, but they've both shown promising signs when healthy. It'll be interesting to see how they integrate back into the lineup.

Stats aside, though, Leddy's waiver placement is a great opportunity for the Sharks to shake things up ๐Ÿ”ฅ. Will Pavol Regenda need waivers if he gets sent back down? That's a tough call ๐Ÿค”...

Yooo ๐Ÿคž I'm loving this move by the Sharks! It's time for Leddy to make way for those healthy players who've been waiting in the wings ๐Ÿ™Œ. Desharnais and Mukhamadullin are gonna bring that much-needed depth on D, and it'll be awesome to see them back on the ice ๐Ÿ’๏ธ. And let's be real, Regenda's been on fire this season, so I'm not sure if he'd even make it onto waivers ๐Ÿ˜‚. The Sharks need to clear some space, but it looks like they're making a smart move that'll benefit the team in the long run ๐Ÿ‘.

OMG I remember when Patrick Marleau used to play for the Sharks all those years ago ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ‘€ Leddy's time on the team is coming to an end, kinda like how we thought that was gonna be a long time ago ๐Ÿ’” Now they gotta make space for Desharnais and Mukhamadullin to get back on the ice. I hope Regenda gets another shot though, seven goals in 10 games is a lot ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ‘

So they're putting Leddy on waivers... I think it's a no-brainer, gotta make room for the healthy guys. Desharnais and Mukhamadullin are gonna bring some much-needed stability to D. And if they can get Pavol back in the mix too, that'd be awesome ๐Ÿคž. The thing is, 34's not old, but he hasn't been playing that well this season... might be time for a fresh start ๐Ÿ”„. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out, especially when Desharnais returns on Monday ๐Ÿ’ช.

So I guess you could say Nick Leddy's time with the Sharks is "frosty" now that he's been placed on waivers ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ’๏ธ! Nah, seriously though, it's like they're trying to "puck" him off the roster and make room for the healthy guys coming back. And I'm guessing Pavol Regenda's chances of being sent down are "slap shot" out the window now that he's been doing pretty well this season ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿ’ช
