I don’t usually comment but... this US tobacco giant's alleged funding of terrorism through its North Korea venture is just mind-blowing

. I mean, $629m in fines seems like peanuts compared to the damages being claimed here - hundreds of US military service members and civilians are suing for unspecified damages, which could be in the millions or even billions

.
It's crazy that BAT continued operating this joint venture despite public warnings from the US government about North Korea's involvement in terrorist activities

. And now they're saying they took steps to transform their compliance program? I'm not buying it - if profits were being used to fund terrorism, why didn't they just cut ties with the North Korean company altogether?
This case is a big wake-up call for corporate accountability and transparency

. Companies need to be held responsible for their actions, especially when it comes to supporting illicit activities that put people's lives at risk

. The fact that this lawsuit is being brought against BAT raises more questions than answers - what other companies are involved in similar activities? How much have they been paying off politicians or officials to turn a blind eye?
It's time for greater transparency and accountability from these corporations, imo

. We need to know what's really going on behind the scenes and who's benefiting from their shady dealings
