British American Tobacco accused of helping North Korea fund terrorism in lawsuit

🚭👀 this is a whole can of worms right here, US gov't gotta do better on keepin' tabs on these big corporations, it's like they're above the law or somethin'! $629m fine and deferred prosecution agreement, that's not enough, especially when innocent lives were lost because of BAT's "business activities". It's all about cover-ups and settlin' for peanuts. The fact that BAT claims to have taken steps to transform its compliance program but still got caught out is a big red flag. What's gonna stop 'em from just doin' the same thing again? Corporate responsibility and liability should mean more than just empty promises, we need concrete action! 🚫

I don’t usually comment but... this US tobacco giant's alleged funding of terrorism through its North Korea venture is just mind-blowing 🤯. I mean, $629m in fines seems like peanuts compared to the damages being claimed here - hundreds of US military service members and civilians are suing for unspecified damages, which could be in the millions or even billions 💸.

It's crazy that BAT continued operating this joint venture despite public warnings from the US government about North Korea's involvement in terrorist activities 🚨. And now they're saying they took steps to transform their compliance program? I'm not buying it - if profits were being used to fund terrorism, why didn't they just cut ties with the North Korean company altogether? 🔒

This case is a big wake-up call for corporate accountability and transparency 💡. Companies need to be held responsible for their actions, especially when it comes to supporting illicit activities that put people's lives at risk 🌎. The fact that this lawsuit is being brought against BAT raises more questions than answers - what other companies are involved in similar activities? How much have they been paying off politicians or officials to turn a blind eye? 🤑

It's time for greater transparency and accountability from these corporations, imo 💯. We need to know what's really going on behind the scenes and who's benefiting from their shady dealings 🤫.

omg this is like so messed up 😱 bat knows it's funding terrorism and they just kept on keeping on? no way to justify that, tbh 🤯 the fact that profits from those cigarettes went to fund iranian and hezbollah weapons attacks against americans is just insane 💣 i mean we all know how much money those tobacco companies make, but like seriously who does this kind of thing? 🤑 it's not like bat was unaware or anything, they had years to change their ways and they chose to keep on doing whatever they were doing... meanwhile innocent people are suffering from tbi and ptsd because of this 🤕 how can we even trust companies that prioritize profits over human lives? 🙄
