Chrysler is issuing a massive recall of over 320,000 Jeep plug-in hybrid vehicles due to a serious safety issue involving faulty batteries that can fail and ignite fires. According to U.S. traffic regulators, the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Chrysler has identified 19 reports and one injury related to the problem.
The recalled vehicles include 228,221 Jeep Wranglers from model years 2020-2025 and 91,844 Jeep Grand Cherokees from model years 2022-2026. Owners are advised to park their vehicles outside structures until a remedy is determined and not charge them, in order to mitigate the risk of fire.
The faulty batteries were manufactured by Samsung SDI America in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The NHTSA has notified vehicle owners that they will receive interim notification letters starting December 2, 2025, with additional letters sent once the final remedy is available.
Those affected can contact Chrysler's customer service at 800-853-1403 for assistance. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) for this recall can be searched on the NHTSA website beginning November 6, 2025. However, owners of vehicles previously recalled for the same issue will need to have the new remedy performed.
The recall number is 68C, and it highlights the ongoing safety concerns associated with certain components in modern vehicles.
