Houston City Council passes ordinance for $33M contract for 2021 winter storm relief

Houston City Council Approves $33M Contract for Winter Storm Relief

In a move aimed at providing relief to homeowners affected by the devastating 2021 winter storm, the Houston City Council has approved an ordinance allocating over $33 million in federal dollars towards repair and reconstruction services. The contract, awarded to six vendors, will offer reimbursement pathways and rehabilitation/reconstruction options to eligible property owners.

The program aims to assist homeowners who suffered damage from the storm, with the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Pathway serving as the default option for single-family homes within city limits that have not yet been repaired. However, reconstruction is only considered if repair costs exceed 50% of the home's pre-storm value or the $100,000 rehabilitation cap.

The vendors selected for this contract include Arkitektura Development, Inc., Brizo Construction, LLC, Ducky Recovery, LLC, James W. Turner Construction, LTD, RM Quality Construction, LLC, and SLSCO, LTD. These companies will provide home repair services to eligible property owners through the reimbursement pathway and rehabilitation/reconstruction pathways.

The city is now encouraging homeowners who may still need assistance to submit an application for the program. With nearly five years having passed since the storm wreaked havoc on the city, this development brings welcome relief to those affected by the disaster.

OMG u guys!!! 🀯 i think its so cool that Houston City Council approved this $33M contract 4 winter storm relief πŸŒͺοΈπŸ’Έ. Like literally thousands of ppl were affected by that crazy storm in 2021 and it's been ages since then... i dont know how much more ppl can handle. The fact that there r vendors who will provide home repair services thru reimbursement pathway & rehab/recon pathways is super helpful 🀝. I mean, its not like the city was expecting ppl 2 fix their homes all on thier own lol πŸ’ͺ. Now they can get back 2 normal life & dont have 2 worry about their homes 4 a lil while 😌. Good job Houston City Council! πŸ‘

omg y'all 33 mil for winter storm relief is amazing!!! finally some help for those houston homeowners who've been struggling with repair costs πŸ’ΈπŸ  i'm so glad they're offering reimbursement pathways and reconstruction options too, that's gonna make a huge difference for people's lives 🌟 the fact that it's only considered if repairs cost 50% of pre-storm value or $100k is kinda reasonable tho πŸ‘ can't wait to see all these vendors getting to work and helping out those in need πŸ’ͺ

I feel so bad for people in Houston still dealing with aftermath of that massive winter storm πŸŒ©οΈπŸ˜”. $33M is a good start, but it's about time, right? Those homeowners deserve help & it's crazy they're only getting reimbursement pathway now... 5 yrs on, they should've gotten this by now! πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ The fact that reconstruction pathway has cap of $100k seems kinda low tho... still, at least it's something, I guess 😊

omg this is amazing 🀩! $33M is a huge amount of money and i hope it really makes a difference in people's lives who were hit so hard by that winter storm. 5 years is a long time to be waiting for help, so its great that the city council is finally taking action. lets hope all those homeowners get the assistance they need πŸ’•.

just hope those $33m gets to people who really need it lol πŸ˜‚, been hearing so many stories of folks struggling to get their homes fixed after that crazy winter storm in 2021... glad to see some action being taken πŸ’ͺ, also think it's cool they're having a rehab pathway as an option instead of just rebuilding from scratch πŸ πŸ’‘

omg u guyz this is amazing news!!! finally some $$$ coming 2 those houston homes 🀩 they got like a whole bunch of companies that r gonna help fix these houses & give ppl back their homes its not like 5 yrs old or somethin so thats def a win πŸ™Œ

πŸ™Œ OMG I'm so stoked they're finally doing something about that devastating winter storm in Houston! $33M is a huge amount of money and I know it's gonna make a big difference for all the homeowners who suffered damage 🀞. I mean, 5 years is such a long time to be waiting for help, so this ordinance is like, super welcome relief πŸ’•. And that $100k rehab cap is a good thing too, 'cause some people might've been taken advantage of by scammers or something 🚫. Anyways, I'm all about supporting our city and its residents, especially after everything they went through 😊.

🌩️ I think it's a huge win that the Houston City Council is finally providing some serious help to homeowners who were devastated by that winter storm back in 2021 πŸ€•. The fact that they're allocating $33 million for repair and reconstruction services is a great start, but I wish there was more support for those who are still struggling today πŸ˜”. 50% of the home's pre-storm value or the $100k cap might not be enough to cover all the costs, especially considering the cost of living in Houston has probably gone up since then 🀯. Still, it's better than nothing, and I hope this program brings some relief to those who need it most πŸ’ͺ.

omg can't believe this 🀩! finally some good news for houston! i'm so down for anyone who needs help with their roof or windows after that crazy winter storm in 2021 πŸ’Έ $33m is a big deal and it's awesome that the city council is trying to support those affected 😊 i hope everyone can get the help they need, it's been too long πŸ™ and i'm glad some of these vendors were chosen for the job 🀝 arkitektura development, brizo construction, and rm quality construction are my faves πŸ’― let's keep fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly and people start getting back on their feet soon 🌞

🀩 I'm so glad to see the Houston City Council taking action! It's crazy that it's been 5 years since that winter storm hit and people are still dealing with the aftermath. The $33M contract is a huge step forward, but I wish they would've done something sooner. πŸ˜” It's not like anyone wants to wait that long for help. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ Anyway, I'm just glad that these 6 vendors have been chosen to provide services to the affected homeowners. Hopefully, it'll make a big difference in their lives soon! πŸ’ͺ

Just heard about the $33M contract approved by Houston City Council πŸ€”. It's amazing how much it takes for us to come together and help our own. I mean, 2021 was a tough winter storm, but it's great that the city is finally taking action πŸ’ͺ. I'm sure there are still plenty of people out there who need some financial support to get their homes back on track πŸ πŸ’Ό. The fact that there are multiple vendors offering repair services and pathways for reimbursement means that homeowners have options 🀝. It's not a quick fix, but it's a good start πŸ’―. Let's hope these funds bring some relief and stability to those affected 🌈.

Ugh I feel so bad for those people in Houston πŸ€• they've been dealing with that winter storm mess for like 5 yrs now and it's still a big deal πŸ’Έ $33M is a lot of money but I guess it's better late than never πŸ™ the fact that the city is encouraging homeowners to apply now is a good sign, hopefully everyone who needs help can get some assistance πŸ’•

I'm so glad they're finally doing something about it πŸ™. Back in my day, we didn't even get a scratch on our houses from a winter storm, and now I see what's going through their minds - like, "How are we supposed to rebuild after this?" And the fact that some of these contractors got picked for this contract is kinda sketchy... they're all these big companies with fancy names πŸ€‘. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad there's help available, but it feels like they're just giving out contracts to anyone who can throw a number around πŸ“Š. Still, at least the city is encouraging folks to apply now, so fingers crossed it actually makes a difference πŸ’ͺ

Its about time the city council did something to help out the people who got slammed with that massive winter storm back in 2021 πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. $33 million is a decent chunk of change and I hope these vendors can actually get some work done soon. I've seen so many neighborhoods still stuck with broken-down homes and it's just heartbreaking to see. Hopefully this program can get some of those repairs done and bring some relief to the affected families. The 50% value thing seems kinda steep, but I guess that's just how it goes sometimes πŸ€‘.

Wow 🀯! $33M for winter storm relief? That's a huge help for Houston homeowners who are still recovering from 2021. Interesting that the reconstruction pathway is only considered if repair costs exceed 50% of the home's pre-storm value, that makes sense I guess πŸ€‘

The $33M contract approval is a good step forward for Houston's winter storm victims 🀝. It's about time the city acts to help its citizens after such a devastating event. The reimbursement pathway and rehabilitation options are decent, but I wish there were more resources available to those who need reconstruction work done on their homes. 50% of pre-storm value or $100k is a pretty high threshold, especially for families who may not have been able to afford that kind of repair out-of-pocket πŸ’Έ. Maybe the city could consider offering more flexible repayment plans to help with costs? Still, this contract is a start, and I hope it brings some much-needed relief to those affected 🌞.

omg can u believe they're giving out 33 milllion bucks to help houston homeowners fix their homes 🀯 i mean it's been like 5 yrs since that winter storm and ppl are still trying to recover from it. i think this is a good start, but idk how long it'll take for them to actually get the money out the door and who gets priority? like, low-income fams or what? anyway, at least someone's looking out for those in need πŸ’•

Yooo, finally some good news! πŸ™Œ I'm so glad to hear that the Houston City Council approved a $33M contract for winter storm relief. Like, it's about time, right? πŸ’― Those homeowners who got hit hard in 2021 deserve our support and help. The fact that there are vendors on board like Arkitektura Development and RM Quality Construction is awesome too! 🀩 At least now people have options and a clear pathway to get their homes fixed up again.

And I gotta say, the city's encouraging folks to apply for the program even though it's been almost five years since the storm. That's so great to see them stepping up and trying to help those in need. It's not just about throwing money at the problem, but actually making a difference in people's lives. Good on ya, Houston! 🌟
