Maine father charged with murder in 12-week-old infant's death

Maine Father Charged with Murder in Infant's Death

A 24-year-old man from Orrington, Maine is facing serious charges after his 12-week-old infant daughter died under mysterious circumstances. Shawn Samuels was arrested on January 17 by the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit-North and charged with murder, domestic violence elevated aggravated assault, and two counts of violating bail.

According to police, the infant, Lyla Samuels, was found unresponsive at her home in Orrington on January 16. First responders were called to the scene, and she was taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for treatment. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries on January 18.

The cause of death is still pending investigation, but the Chief Medical Examiner has ruled the manner of death a homicide. Samuels was subsequently arrested at Penobscot County Jail and charged with murder after an autopsy revealed evidence pointing to his involvement in the infant's death.

Samuels' attorney information was not immediately available Tuesday evening, but authorities assure that this is an isolated incident with no ongoing public safety concerns. Police are now urging anyone with information about the case to come forward.

A Maine man has been charged with murder after his 12-week-old baby died under suspicious circumstances. The investigation is ongoing, and police have urged anyone with information to contact them.

This is just so shocking 🤯. I can't even imagine what that poor mom must've gone through. A dad killing their own baby? It's like something out of a horror movie. And the fact that he was supposed to be taking care of her and keeping her safe... it's just not right 😔. The police are doing a good job investigating, but I hope they can find some answers soon so justice can be served 💕.

😩 my heart just sank reading this... a dad of such a young innocent lil girl... how can u be so cruel? 🤯 the thought of that little one suffering & not getting to grow up is just heartbreaking 💔 i hope justice is served, but at what cost? 😕

Ugh this one's a toughie for me 😩... I mean, can you imagine going through something like that? A new parent, barely holding it together, and then the unthinkable happens... 🤯 I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that Shawn Samuels was supposed to be protecting his own flesh and blood. It's a dark reminder that sometimes, people's best intentions can go horribly wrong 💔. The thought of those police officers showing up at someone's doorstep, revealing devastating news... it's just heartbreaking 🤕. My heart goes out to the little Lyla Samuels who didn't get to see the world beyond her crib 👶. I'm not saying Shawn Samuels did anything intentionally malicious, but it's clear that his actions led to a tragic outcome 😔. Can we learn from this? How can we support each other through these unimaginable situations? We need more awareness and resources for new parents struggling with mental health or feeling overwhelmed... 🤝

just had to see this... a 24-yr-old dad goes from being a new papa to potentially going down for murder 🤯 this isn't right at all... what's supposed to happen is you're gonna be there for your kid, help 'em out, and keep 'em safe. not leave 'em to suffer like that... domestic violence charges too? that's just heartbreaking. police are saying it's an isolated incident, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around this... a dad takes his own baby away from us way too soon 💔

this is such a heartbreaking story 🤕 can u believe that someone would hurt their own innocent child like that? it's just devastating for the family & community 💔 i hope justice is served & that Shawn gets the help he needs 🤞 but at what cost? 🙏 anyway, my heart goes out to Lyla's family & friends ❤️ lets keep praying for them & sending all our positive vibes 🌈

ugh this is like somethin outta a movie or somethin... a dad loses his little one and then he just turns around and kills her? it's just so sad and wrong 😔. i feel bad for the mom, too - she must be dyin' inside knowin what happened to her baby girl. and the dad, he's just... what was he thinkin? like, didn't he know that hurtin his own flesh and blood would lead to this? anyway, gotta keep an eye on him, hope justice is served 💔.

Man... this is just so sad 😔. I mean, a dad loses his little one like that? It's heartbreaking for the whole family. I can imagine how traumatic this must be for Shawn Samuels right now 🤕. How could someone do something like that to their own child?! 💔 I don't know what to think or feel about it... all I know is that life is precious, and we have to look out for each other's little ones 👶. Hopefully the police can get to the bottom of this and bring some justice to Lyla's memory 💫.

I don't think this guy is guilty yet, you know? I mean, we're jumping to conclusions here. We don't even know what happened that day. Maybe the little one had a pre-existing condition or something? Or maybe Shawn was just really overwhelmed and didn't know how to handle it? We can't assume everything about someone based on one bad decision. And let's not forget, he's already been through a lot - having a baby is hard, but being in a situation where you're charged with murder... that's just rough. The police are saying there's no ongoing public safety concern, which I think is fair. We should be giving Shawn the benefit of the doubt until we have all the facts 🤔

can't believe what's happening in maine rn... like a dad just can't take care of his own kid 🤯😱. seems like samuels was known for being aggressive & violent towards his partner or ppl might've thought he'd be gentle w/ the baby 🤷‍♂️ guess u never know what goes on behind closed doors tho... hope justice is served & no other family has to go thru this 💔👮‍♂️

💔 This is just so tragic 🤕, but you know what's also super brave? Shawn Samuels' wife and their entire family for speaking up and being vocal about what happened... it takes a lot of courage to confront something like this. 💪 And let's not forget the amazing work the Maine State Police are doing to ensure justice is served 🙏. I mean, the fact that they're urging anyone with info to come forward shows they're really committed to getting to the bottom of things. It's gonna be a tough road ahead for everyone involved, but at least we know there are good people working on it 🌟.

I saw this news and I'm kinda shocked 😱. A dad's gotta be devastated when he finds out what's happened to his little one 🤕. I mean, 12 weeks old, that's like, barely even a twinkle in the eye, you know? 💡

The thing is, we don't know all the details yet, but the fact that Shawn was arrested and charged with murder already tells us something scary 🚨. And now they're saying it might've been a homicide? That's just... wow 😲.

I'm not gonna speculate or make any judgments, 'cause that's not for me to do 💁‍♀️. But what I will say is, if you got info about this case, please come forward 🗣️. It could help the authorities figure out what happened and maybe bring some closure to the family.

I hope Shawn gets the help he needs 👍, 'cause this is a tough situation for everyone involved 💔. And I'm just gonna say it: my heart goes out to Lyla's mom and dad 🤗. They must be feeling like they're losing their minds right now 😩.

just when you think u got a good life goin on... some1's gonna mess it up like this poor lil fam 🤕. can't even imagine bein in those shoes.. how r u supposed 2 deal w/ the guilt of takin ur own life & havin someone else die because of it? 😩

This is just devastating news 🤕. I mean, a new life lost so suddenly, it's heartbreaking 😔. It's not hard to see why Shawn Samuels would be devastated too – the loss of his baby girl must be unbearable for him right now 💔. But still, 24 and already facing murder charges? That's just crazy! The thought that something like this could happen in a loving home environment is really scary 🤯.

As for how we can support Shawn and prevent similar tragedies in the future... I think it's essential to have open conversations about mental health, stress, and the pressures of parenthood 🤝. It's not always easy being a new parent, and sometimes things just go terribly wrong 💥. We need to create a culture where people feel comfortable seeking help and talking openly about their struggles 🗣️.

The fact that authorities are urging anyone with info to come forward is a good step, but I think we can do more to prevent similar cases from happening in the future 💡.

man this is just heartbreaking 😔... like what even is going on in some people's lives? a 24-yr old dude, supposed to be taking care of his own flesh & blood, ends up killing his own infant daughter 🤯... it's just so senseless. and the worst part is, he's not even showing any remorse, he's just facing charges & that's it 💔... like where was he when this happened? was he even paying attention to what was going on around him? 🤔... anyway, my heart goes out to that poor mom, I can only imagine how she must be feeling 😭. and I hope the authorities get to the bottom of this & bring some closure to the family 💪

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this heartbreaking news 🤕. A young dad being charged with murder over the death of his own infant daughter is just devastating. I can only imagine how traumatic this must be for the family, especially Shawn's partner who was clearly not aware of what was going on behind closed doors 🚪.

The fact that Shawn had a history of violating bail and was out on his own before Lyla's death is really worrying - you'd think that would be a huge red flag 🚨. But now we know that police were aware of the situation, and yet they still didn't act sooner to protect the baby.

I'm all for holding people accountable when they've done something wrong, but in this case, it's not like Shawn was exactly flying under the radar - his bail violations should have raised some serious eyebrows 🤔. Still, I guess you can never be too sure until the full investigation comes out, and hopefully, we'll get to the bottom of what really happened.

It's a tragic reminder that sometimes, even with all our best efforts, things just go horribly wrong 💔.

I'm still in shock thinking about this whole thing 🤯. I mean, a 24-year-old dad killing their own infant? It's just not something you see often, right? I don't know what's going on in Shawn Samuels' head, but it's clear he made some pretty bad choices. And to think, he was out there with his daughter when this happened... 😱. I guess you never really know someone until something like this happens, and even then, you might not get the full picture. Anyway, my thoughts are with Lyla's family and friends right now 🤕.

🤔 This whole thing is just so messed up 🤯 I mean, 12 weeks old is already super vulnerable, but for a dad to do this to his own kid... it's like, the ultimate failure of parenting 🙅‍♂️ And yeah, I know Shawn Samuels' lawyer will try to spin this all over the place, but let's be real, evidence pointing to murder? That's a pretty strong motive 💀 I'm not saying he's guilty or anything, but it's just so suspicious... maybe we'll never really know what happened behind closed doors. 🤐

This is such a tough one... 🤕 I can only imagine how devastating this must be for the little girl's family & loved ones 😔. As a society, we need to support each other during these heartbreaking times ❤️. The fact that Shawn Samuels' attorney info isn't available yet kinda raises more questions than answers... but it's good that authorities are saying this is an isolated incident 🙏. Can we all take a moment to wish the family all the best & send our positive vibes their way? 💕

Ugh, this is just so sad 😭... I mean, I know crimes like these happen all the time, but it's still shocking when it's a parent involved in their own kid's death 🤕. It's like, you see those shows where people go crazy and hurt each other or themselves... yeah, that's exactly what this feels like 😳. And the worst part is, it looks like Shawn Samuels was already in some kind of trouble before this happened, so I guess you could say he had a lot more going on in his life than just taking care of his baby 🤷‍♂️. The police are saying it's an isolated incident and they're looking for anyone with info, which is good, but still... it's just heartbreaking 💔.
