Maine Father Charged with Murder in Infant's Death
A 24-year-old man from Orrington, Maine is facing serious charges after his 12-week-old infant daughter died under mysterious circumstances. Shawn Samuels was arrested on January 17 by the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit-North and charged with murder, domestic violence elevated aggravated assault, and two counts of violating bail.
According to police, the infant, Lyla Samuels, was found unresponsive at her home in Orrington on January 16. First responders were called to the scene, and she was taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for treatment. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries on January 18.
The cause of death is still pending investigation, but the Chief Medical Examiner has ruled the manner of death a homicide. Samuels was subsequently arrested at Penobscot County Jail and charged with murder after an autopsy revealed evidence pointing to his involvement in the infant's death.
