A Houston man narrowly escaped death when a parking garage partially collapsed beneath his car. Weeks later, Jose Cruz is still trying to come to terms with the traumatic event that left him shaken and without access to his vehicle.
On January 24th, Cruz was working for the security company overseeing the vacant property on Briar Hollow Lane when disaster struck. As he parked his car in the designated area, the ground gave way beneath him, causing a pancake effect that sent debris crashing down around him. Cruz described the scene as "surreal" and said all he could think was, "What if my car comes loose and keeps falling down? Where will it fall?"
Miraculously, Cruz escaped through his car window and made it out alive, but not without sustaining a fractured right foot during his ordeal. He was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries.
However, Cruz's relief at having survived the disaster is short-lived, as he soon discovered that his car remains trapped beneath the rubble, leaving him unable to access it. The property owners, Dhanani Private Equity Group, have yet to reach out to check on Cruz's well-being or offer assistance with retrieving his vehicle.
Cruz expressed frustration and disappointment at the lack of concern shown by the property owners, saying he feels like they don't care about his situation. He fears that the financial burden of medical bills will be too much for him to bear alone, having worked for 18 years without any issues prior to the incident.
As Cruz struggles to come to terms with what happened and find a way to move forward, one thing is certain: he has faced something no one wants to experience β the terrifying reality of being trapped in a collapsed parking garage.
