Hazel Park Welcomes a Taste of Romania with Bar Gabi's Grand Opening
A new dining destination has emerged in Hazel Park, as the Romanian bistro Bar Gabi opened its doors to the public on Friday, October 24th. Led by husband-and-wife chef duo Gabriel and Gabriela Botezan, the restaurant is set to bring a unique flavor of Eastern European cuisine to the area.
For the couple, opening Bar Gabi has been a lifelong dream, allowing them to share their culture and passion for food with the community. "This means everything to us," said Gabriel in a statement. "We finally find ourselves opening the restaurant that we always dreamed to have β to showcase our culture and our food."
Gabriela added that the goal is to highlight Romanian cuisine, which often gets overlooked in America. "This is about sharing who we are," she said. "Our food and hospitality at the level it deserves, and to celebrate it more."
The restaurant's menu features a range of traditional Romanian dishes with modern twists, including a breaded Tomahawk Schnitzel bone-in pork chop with smoked paprika and mustard greens, Transylvanian Goulash, and rotating pastas. Desserts include items like Romanian Cremes, Albinita honey cake, and tiramisu.
Guests can also look forward to creative cocktails led by Kenneth Laatz, who has worked at Adelina in downtown Detroit. The cocktail program includes non-alcoholic options, and the space features framed embroidery from the Botezans' family in Romania.
The adjacent former Frame space is available for booking for private parties, and Bar Gabi plans to host special events like chef collaborations there.
Bar Gabi is located at 23839 John R Rd., Hazel Park.
