The Guardian view on Cop30: someone has to pay for the end of the oil and gas age | Editorial

I'm not buying all this climate finance hype 😒. Rich countries are just passing the buck and expecting others to foot the bill. It's like they think a simple "loan" or "mobilised private finance" is enough to fix the problem 🤦‍♂️. Newsflash: it's not that easy. We need concrete, tangible investments in renewable energy and green infrastructure, not just empty promises 💸.

And don't even get me started on the numbers 📊. $1.3 trillion a year? That's cute. I'd say we're looking at more like $5-10 trillion a year if we want to have any hope of meeting our climate goals ⏰. It's time for rich countries to put their money where their mouth is and stop playing games 🎲.

I'm also not convinced by the notion of carbon markets and market-based mechanisms 🤑. Just because it's "market-driven" doesn't mean it's good for the planet 🌎. We need governments setting policy and holding corporations accountable, not just leaving it to the whims of the market 🤖.

I'm telling u, this whole climate finance thing is a no-brainer 🤑. Rich nations have been getting all cozy while the rest are struggling to stay afloat 💧. It's time for them to step up and pay their fair share 👊. I mean, they've got the means, they just need to find it in themselves to cough up some cash 💸. The fact that they're still arguing over whether to use carbon markets or not is laughable 🤣. It's like they think they can just keep on profiting from the planet's destruction while pretending it doesn't exist 🌎. Newsflash: we all know the truth 🙅‍♂️. The clock is ticking, and if rich nations don't get their act together, it's gonna be a disaster 🌪️.
