Trump is pushing 50-year mortgages. Talk about short-term thinking | Arwa Mahdawi

Ugh 🤦‍♂️, I'm so done with these gimmicky mortgage plans 🚫💸! A 50-year mortgage sounds like a dream come true for some, but let's be real, it just prolongs the problem 🔥. It's all about temporary fixes rather than actual solutions to unaffordable housing 🏠. Meanwhile, first-time homebuyers with decent interest rates are already getting lucky 🤝. And don't even get me started on rent control or subsidies – those would've been so much more effective 🙄.

And what's up with the US being a weirdo when it comes to mortgages? Like, most countries only offer fixed-rate loans for a few years before they adjust ⏰. This whole 50-year-mortgage thing just smells like another Trumpian band-aid solution 🤢. It highlights how politicians are all about shiny objects rather than actual progress 💎.

We need a more comprehensive approach to tackle the housing affordability crisis – that's not going to happen with just some piecemeal policy reforms or subsidies 😒.

The 50-year mortgage plan just sounds like another Band-Aid solution to me 🤕🏠. I mean, what's next? Free rent for life? 😂 It doesn't address the root issues at all, and in fact could make things worse by encouraging people to buy more expensive homes. And let's not forget, it would just benefit a select few who already own their homes outright or have been lucky enough to refinance during the pandemic. Meanwhile, millions of Americans are struggling to get into the market due to out-of-control prices and rates.

I also think it's interesting that this idea bears some resemblance to policies from FDR's era... but if we're being honest, that's not exactly a model for success 😒. We need real solutions, not just temporary fixes or gimmicks. And can we please focus on addressing the root causes of unaffordable housing rather than just throwing money at the problem? 🤑💸

omg i feel like we're getting played again lol I mean think about it, a 50-year mortgage sounds too good to be true right? and honestly i think it is they're just trying to distract us from the real issues at hand like how did we even get here where housing prices are so insane?! 🤯 it's like trump wants us to believe that throwing a bone to first-time homebuyers will magically solve our affordable housing crisis newsflash: it won't i've been watching this whole situation and im low-key worried about what this means for future generations of homeownership...and can we please talk about how outdated these 50-year mortgages are?! the rest of the world is already over that 🙄
