I think Indonesia is caught between a rock and a hard place
. On one hand, they want to develop their economy and provide jobs for millions of people, which is totally understandable. But on the other hand, they're basically burning the planet
, what with all the deforestation and palm oil production. It's like they're saying, "growth now" while also thinking about the future
.
I'm not sure what's more worrying - that their 2030 emissions cut target is already under pressure to be made stricter or that they're trying to spin their reliance on coal as a way to attract investors
. I mean, come on, can't they see that this isn't a game of economic hot potato
? We need to address climate change NOW, not just for our own sake but for the world's
.
I'm all for Indonesia taking action and being a voice for climate equity at Cop30, but it's like they're saying one thing and doing another. I'd love to see them take more concrete steps towards transitioning to renewable energy and reducing their reliance on fossil fuels
. We need to hold our leaders accountable for making bold moves, not just paying lip service
.
