'We can no longer predict the seasons': why Indonesia's coal mindset has to change

I think Indonesia is caught between a rock and a hard place 🤔. On one hand, they want to develop their economy and provide jobs for millions of people, which is totally understandable. But on the other hand, they're basically burning the planet 🔥, what with all the deforestation and palm oil production. It's like they're saying, "growth now" while also thinking about the future 🕰️.

I'm not sure what's more worrying - that their 2030 emissions cut target is already under pressure to be made stricter or that they're trying to spin their reliance on coal as a way to attract investors 💸. I mean, come on, can't they see that this isn't a game of economic hot potato 🎲? We need to address climate change NOW, not just for our own sake but for the world's 🌎.

I'm all for Indonesia taking action and being a voice for climate equity at Cop30, but it's like they're saying one thing and doing another. I'd love to see them take more concrete steps towards transitioning to renewable energy and reducing their reliance on fossil fuels 💚. We need to hold our leaders accountable for making bold moves, not just paying lip service 🗣️.

🌳😬 I think the govt is playing with fire here. All this economic growth is nice and all, but our planet can't take it anymore! 🌎 90% of energy coming from fossil fuels? That's crazy talk! We need to switch to renewable energy ASAP or we'll be facing catastrophic consequences. And deforestation? Peatland drainage? It's like they're intentionally trying to destroy the very things that sustain us. I'm not sure what's more disturbing, the fact that they're submitting an NDC that's not ambitious enough or that they're trying to spin it as a way to attract investors 🤑. The truth is, we need urgent action and not just empty promises. Indonesia's got a lot of work to do if it wants to be a leader on climate change.

😒 it's wild to think about how much of a toll our love for palm oil is taking on the planet 🌴 indonesia is producing like half the worlds supply and it's basically just ravaging their forests and peatlands left and right...like what's the deal with that? 💸 we're always talking about how bad coal is, but it's weird that indonesia is still relying so heavily on it 🌡️ at least they're trying to set some ambitious targets now, hope they follow through tho 🤞

I'm all about how Indonesia is just fueling the problem 🌳🔥 with its love for palm oil and coal. I mean, can't they just switch to renewables already? Like, what's a few more years of economic growth when the planet is literally on fire? It's like they're trying to make us all suffer so they can get richer off their fossil fuel deals 💸. And don't even get me started on deforestation - it's just getting out of control 🌴. I know they want to be a voice for climate equity, but let's not forget that we should be the ones in charge here, not countries that are basically just burning up our own planet 🔥.

THE ENVIRONMENT IS REALLY SUFFERING IN INDONESIA RIGHT NOW 🌎🔥 WITH ALL THE DEFORESTATION AND PEATLAND DRAINAGE GOING ON. IT'S LIKE THEY'RE CHOOSING ECONOMIC GROWTH OVER CLIMATE ACTION AND THAT'S NOT A GOOD THING. I MEAN, 55% OF THEIR PALM OIL PRODUCTION IS LIKE, WHAT EVEN IS THAT? 🤯 PLUS COAL IS STILL DOMINATING THEIR ENERGY PRODUCTION, WHICH IS JUST CRAZY. THEY NEED TO GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER AND START TAKING REAL CLIMATE ACTION. THE GOVERNMENT'S PLAN SEEMS OKAY I GUESS BUT IT'S NOT ENOUGH AND THEY SHOULD BE DOING MORE TO PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT.
